Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 11

Watford’s Odion Ighalo is forced off with a dead leg in the 2-0 win over West Ham. Newcastle’s problems between the posts mount up, whilst Southampton are sweating on Jose Fonte’s availability after the centre-half was forced off with a hamstring injury.

Bournemouth
Bournemouth assistant manager Jason Tindall revealed that defender Steve Cook is yet to shake off an ankle knock he sustained last Gameweek against Tottenham Hotspur:

“Cook obviously picked up an ankle injury in the last game he played. We managed to bandage him up and get him on the bench for the Liverpool [League Cup] game but his ankle’s still sore, so we feel it’s best he recovers 100%”

Everton
In his first match back from a two-month spell on the sidelines, Bryan Oviedo picked up a hamstring injury against Sunderland and is set to be assessed by Everton’s medical staff this week.

Leicester City
Christian Fuchs was ruled out of Leicester’s trip to West Bromwich Albion due to a knock, with Jeffrey Schlupp shifting back into defence to cover for the stricken Austrian.

Manchester United
On Saturday evening, Louis van Gaal explained Phil Jones’ omission from the matchday squad against Crystal Palace, saying that English centre-back was in “the red zone” with regards to fitness following his return from a lengthy injury layoff. Jones returned to training today and is now available for United’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow but Memphis Depay remains sidelined.

Earlier this afternoon, the United boss also revealed that Morgan Schneiderlin skipped this morning’s sessions due to personal reasons, though the Frenchman could still feature tomorrow evening.

Newcastle United
Rob Elliot suffered a recurrence of a thigh problem that kept him out of action for the second half of the previous campaign, rendering him a doubt for the Magpies’ trip to Bournemouth next weekend. With Tim Krul out for the term and Karl Darlow nursing an ankle injury, Steve McClaren is weighing up whether to field 18-year-old shot-stopper Freddie Woodman or to pursue an emergency loan transfer:

“There is a good chance (of Elliot missing Bournemouth) because it is a recurrence of the one that he has had long-term, so we don’t hold out much hope. He just got through that. He winced at the end, could have come off, but he wanted to stay on, so he is a major doubt probably for next week. We are just going to assess it now. [On the possibility of a loan move] We are certainly looking at the situation and seeing what we can do because that’s three of our senior goalkeepers injured.”

Elsewhere in the Toon camp, Daryl Janmaat had to be withdrawn after 83 minutes of their home tie against Stoke City following a hefty challenge from Marko Arnautovic. McClaren went on to reveal the nature of the Dutchman’s injury:

“A knee injury which he has had a few problems with, hopefully that is not too bad.”

Norwich
The Canaries are sweating over the fitness of Matt Jarvis, who was forced off at half-time during their narrow loss at City. After the 2-1 defeat, Alex Neil issued an update on the on-loan wide man:

“He just went in for a tackle in the first half and I think opened up his knee a little bit so we’re hoping that is not going to be too bad as he has been excellent for us,”

Southampton
Ronald Koeman is hopeful that Jose Fonte – who was replaced by Maya Yoshida at half time of Saints’ home clash against Bournemouth – will recover from a minor hamstring niggle in time to face Sunderland this Saturday:

“José had some hamstring problems and it was not the moment to take that risk to continue and I hope because we changed in half-time José that he can be fit for the next weekend.”

Stoke City
Mark Hughes admitted that Shay Given is likely to undergo knee surgery after aggravating an existing injury during training:

“He was in training the other day and unfortunately after training, his knee blew up. He’s got a little bit of loose bone in the knee which we hoped would just settle down. But obviously it’s raised his head again and it looks like he might have to have a procedure to deal with it. I’m not sure if that decision has been made as yet, but it’s probably what will happen.

Sunderland
Lee Cattermole limped off at the 37-minute mark of Sunderland’s trip to Everton after suffering a knock.

Watford
Odion Ighalo had to be substituted four minutes from time against West Ham United as a result of a reckless tackle from James Collins. In a post-match interview on Saturday afternoon, the Hornets frontman revealed he sustained a dead leg at Upton Park and expects to shrug off the problem in “two or three days”.

West Bromwich Albion
Chris Brunt was removed from the field of play in the 82nd minute of the Baggies’ home meeting against Leicester City after picking up a knock.

West Ham United
Diafra Sakho sat out the Hammers’ visit to Watford due to a thigh complaint he sustained in training. West Ham’s joint chairman David Gold assured fans that the Senegalese marksman would return for Everton’s visit to the Boelyn Ground next Gameweek:

“It’s a minor problem he picked up on the training pitch and I’m certain he will be back for the match against Everton. He’s been playing brilliantly and it was a shame he had to miss but we are not a club to take chances on players’ fitness these days.”

Defence is Toby, Kol, Darmain, Williams and Richards. Who goes first?

I am thinking Darmian > Moreno as this leaves sufficient funds to upgrade Pelle / Lukaku to Aguero if required.

    Chers gents.

Hmm you got some problems there. As Darmian is out this week and probably a constant rotation headache in the future, and Moreno has a nice fixture this week, it looks sound.

    repost for the new post

can someone explain this to me please

I have 6m ITB from the sale of Kun and 4.5 defenders getting no points or a bench fooder mid

but I won't upgrade any of them because it ruins the balance of team and I'll want the cash when Kun is back anyway

I don't get it, is the cash worth points this season? I'd rather just spend the cash and maximise my points whilst Kun is out then worrying about him coming back. When the time comes that we need him back, which I'm not sure will be right away anyway, then I'll adapt and adjust my team accordingly but hopefully be a lot better off points wise when that time arrives

Very true! Being the first one to get Aguero in (and getting a brace that nobody else got because they didn't have him yet) is unlikely to get you the amount of points that 6m extra gives you the potential for in the entire month he is away surely

        exactly

this is what I don't get, people are actually refusing to spend that cash because they'll want Kun later

So worry about Kun when we need to, spend the cash to get in some better players whilst we have it, who knows what will be in 4-5 GWs

    2. Costa's Counsellor
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

The thing is, Vardy, Ighalo, Mahrez and Payet are all cheap which means it's not that easy to spend the cash and actually get an upgrade.

I'm torn between upgrading my 5th mid now or having two FTs for the international break.

    3. Dr Dream
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

The problem is that Hazard > Mahrez is an upgrade...Rooney > Ighalo is an upgrade...and on and on...Almost the whole game is upside down for prices.

I bet anybody who started with 90mill could have easily matched those who started with 100mill.

        yes but for example saying

I don't want to do Francis/Prodl etc to VVD, Smalling, Bellerin or Westwood to say Ozil because I want the cash for Kun?

        I don't get it

        1. Costa's Counsellor
          • 8 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

That's fair enough but, in my case, I have had more pressing issues and I don't see upgrading my 5th mid is worth -4.

I understand wanting to but always having something else to deal with, that I get. It's just pure refusal as they want the cash or ruin the balance

who gives a cr@p. Spend the cash to increase the points now, worry about Kun later

where i'm struggling with this is that there aren't just one or two players that are going to significantly improve my squad. If another big hitter like Costa, Hazard or even Sturridge was firing then it would be far more straightforward.
My weakest area is the defence but they've been doing okay since Aguero got injured. I've actually gone up about 100k into the top 40k.
Possibly got just one more game and then Aguero could be back.
really spending the money now would be just a case of upgrading my bench.
also can see a lot of bitching coming up and point hits being taken when Aguero returnns.

Guys, any sort of advice for this team with 2 FT & 1.4m itb?

    Butland
    Kolarov / Bellerin / Darmian*

I am likely to be doing Darmian > Moreno which could be an idea but perhaps in your case Targett > Moreno as Targett is completely deadwood.

I'm going to play AOA this week. Any objections?

    Butland

Another poor display from Bony then you might as well have played Alderweireld or Williams and gotten their 2pts.

Worth the cheeky one week punt do you reckon? Currently have Vardy (vs watford), Ighalo (vs leicester) and Pelle (vs sunderland), so would need to be for one of them - and mean benching Ayew against Norwich. Might hold onto the FT this week instead for once!

definitely, I think the balance is between sticking with players on form even if they're template and then get differentials by picking up those about to go on form rather than following the points, and not so much about the player ownership

He's currently getting pretty typical goals per shot on target and assists per chance created. Unless Man United start to play with a more attacking philosophy it's hard to see his returns increasing.

Those with a 5 man midfield, what was your thinking?
Play a brief AOA or get an über cheap striker? Have you had a lot of points on your bench?

    1. Mata-Is-The-Juan

Ditching Mata soon so I can stop benching Ighalo for him. The way Barkley is going and Bony doing his best ghost impressions, I might just get in Kos or Smalling and play 4-4-2

Still have Silva with his never ending +1 week injury. Would've actually lost so many points if he played, with Cabaye Mahrez etc all just killing it this season.

Played AOA this week. Ayoze is my 3rd striker so won't mind benching him most weeks.

Am I the last man standing that doesn't want to abandon Martial? Surely LVG can't roll out that crap system again? Surely?! If Martial does start up top for MU with these fixtures he would be a monster.

I just sold yesterday for Lukaku because, as a United fan, I'm getting disillusioned by LVG.

I know we're capable of great football, we saw it for a spell last season, but this season doesn't seem to be clicking..

now watch him go on a tear.

    Hart (McCarthy)
    Bellerin, Kolarov, Alderweireld (Richards, Olsson)
    Mane, Payet, Sanchez, Mahrez (Westwood)
    Vardy, Pelle, Lukaku

    2 FT´s, 5.6m ITB

Plan is to upgrade pelle or lukaku back to aguero.. that leaves around 0.8m to play with..

    Any ideas?
    Olsson -> Cedric ?
    Payet -> Özil ?
    Richards -> ?
    Westwood ?

UFPL question guys: got Eriksen and Kane on my bench. Two lowest scorers are Huth (1) and Payet (4), ignoring Wanyama who I'm stuck with thanks to his red!
Worth bringing in both tonight rather than just one, right? Also, stick with armband on Pelle (2×8) or twist?
