Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 12

Tottenham’s Erik Lamela become the latest player to topple off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth caution of the campaign during this afternoon’s north London derby at the Emirates. The in-form Argentine – whose absence could pave the way for fit-again Heung Min-Son to stake a claim for a starting berth – misses Spurs’ upcoming home match-up against West Ham United but will be available when Chelsea roll up to White Hart Lane in Gameweek 14.

With five new arrivals over the weekend’s fixtures, the Suspension Tightrope is drawing quite the crowd – there’s now an 18-strong band of wrongdoers on four bookings as we head into the international break.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle is certainly the most pertinent of the new recruits from a Fantasy perspective. The Saints’ leading marksman currently sits at a hefty 34% ownership – having bagged four goals and as many assists in seven starts – and will be wary of committing further indiscretions ahead of a home tie against Aston Villa in Gameweek 15.

The Italian was joined by James McCarthy, Chris Brunt, Glenn Whelan and Cheick Tiote. The Newcastle enforcer has now chalked up more yellow cards (53) than any player in the Premier League since he made the switch to St James’ Park in August 2010.

In terms of new bans, West Brom defender Gareth McAuley received his marching orders for denying Anthony Martial a clear goal scoring opportunity at Old Trafford, making him the only recipient of a red card throughout the weekend. The Northern Ireland international has been handed a one-match suspension and misses out when Arsenal pay visit after the international break, returning for a trip to West Ham in Gameweek 14.

After the 2-0 defeat, Baggies boss Tony Pulis was somewhat critical of the centre-half and acknowledged McAuley’s challenge left referee Mike Dean with little alternative:

“Gareth McAuley (for the red card and penalty) should have stayed on his feet and if the kid scores the kid scores…It’s difficult for Mike. You could feel, with a couple of minutes to go, that he might look at it differently. But the letter of the law says that if he’s last man and he brings him down he has to send him off.”

Aside from McAuley, James Collins is the only other player serving out a suspension during the next round of fixtures. The Hammers’ seasoned centre-back has two fixtures remaining on his three-match ban, ruling him out of a road tie against Tottenham Hotspur and a home clash against West Brom. With Winston Reid back in the frame, however, it’s unlikely that Collins will reclaim a starting berth upon his return.

United’s Matteo Darmian is now available for the upcoming trip to Watford after he fell off last week’s Tightrope. Norwich skipper Russell Martin and Southampton’s Victor Wanyama are both back in contention after they were dismissed during last week’s matches.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

Good question TM, my defence is a shambles but I could manage with my front line so would keep all of them.

Just not sure when to play the first WC, international breaks are generally ideal and there's no double GWs yet on the horizon.

I imagine most have a frontline of 3 of Ighalo/Lukaku/Vardy/Pelle/Bony/Martial/Kane right now.

If you didn't have Kane and are bringing him in this week, who are you selling for Aguero when he's back? And how are your funds placed to do that?

Vardy's fixtures turn soon so maybe his time is coming to an end? With such narrow margins between those players it would seem stupid to totally ignore fixtures at this point.

Ighalo is also a worthy pick if you want a slightly different team structure.

At the moment I want a frontline of Lukaku, Kane, Vardy. If Vardy starts struggling in the tough fixtures I will get Aguero and downgrade elsewhere. Have Ighalo at the moment but always benching him and missing points.

Thinking the same. Got Martial currently, and the fixtures are lush. Bar Chelsea though, so are Kane's. Always hard to resist when one's price is going down, and the other the opposite way

Kane is a man in form.

Really Kane Lukaku Vardy are the form strikeforce.

But Aguero is a must have for me. Maybe I could squeeze Kane in for Lukaku or Vardy if either form started to taper.

Perhaps Kane could be a better pick than Aguero over the next 4 gws.

If I want Kane and Aguero wit Lukaku I'd have to make about 5 transfers.

Selling Pelle for Aguero. Want to keep Lukaku. Might just go Ighalo.

I'm in a similar position, I'd have to downgrade several players in different positions to get a Aguero-Lukaku-Kane front line. Team just isn't set up in that shape atm.

Obviously not selling Lukaku so I think I'll just do Vardy > Kun and stick with Ighalo too. If the opportunity comes to upgrade Ighalo later then I might do it but I'm not going to deliberately rip up my team just for the sake of bringing in Kane.

    DDG (Hennessey)

Yeah I agree, right now Kolarov and Bellerin are placeholders subject to fitness and rotation decision. I've rode their rises so don't want to get rid early into the WC and potentially lose their value. This question is just really about whether I should WC this week, or wait until GW14 once we've had a chance to survey Aguero's return.

At what point do the two big heavy hitters (Aguero and Sanchez) stop being vital?

With Sanchez so far failing to justify his price tag and other strikers emerging as cheaper, consistent and less injury prone alternatives to Aguero, would you be happy to go without one or both of the two?

Okay then, say Aguero is too good not to own.

Sanchez though? Not as good a player as Kun and being outperformed even by Ozil atm. At what point do you sell? Especially given you don't need him as a captain option if you own Kun.

Following on from woeisme's post, i have 116 pts from my captain this season. Kuns 4 goals, a kun assist and vardys pen yesterday are the only notable returns. Im ranked 30k. I just wonder how much better id be if i had least got the captain right 50% of the time

Before Sunday.. thought I had a good side.
Not so sure now. Issues left, right and centre.

        Butland, Schmeichel
        Moreno, Kolarov, Francis, Toby, Ward
        KDB, Alexis, Payet, Mahrez Westwood
        Martial, Pelle, Vardy

        2ft, 4.5m in account

What would your next moves be?

Vardy(suspension)/Payet (injury)/Martial may need to go soon.

Payet ---> Bolasie looks a nice move

Playing up front at times, super fixtures, somewhat good form and frees up cash for Aguero

I don't trust Palace attackers. There isn't one who is the main pointscorer, and goals are shared a fair bit. Wickham is back now too and Gayle/Chamakh will also be back from injury

Time to say goodbye and welcome Ozil (WBA,NOR,SUN,AVL).

Cedric, azpi, Toby A, ( S taylor, Kolarov)

        Mahrez KDB Sanchez Payet (Wanyama)

        Vardy Pelle Kane

Just like Mark (hope I am right) said during the Scoutcast, Aguero is not really essential if your front 3 are doing 2 goals a gameweek between them.
It is either Aguero or Sanchez as an essential, unless both start to go off the rails (2 goals or so a game)
Also, why not wait for him to come back against Liverpool and see if he has his touch or will take time getting back to form.

I know its early, but what's your thoughts on these?:

            A: Sanchez ---> Ozil
            B: Pelle ---> Lukaku/Giroud
            C: Dawson ---> Bertrand
D: Muniesa ---> Palace defender (Kelly or Delaney)
E Combo of the above for -4 hit

            Monreal, Kolarov, Dawson, Muniesa, Francis

This is what I'm thinking. I think he could be a good differential if he gets to start, Stoke are looking on the up and he has plenty of talented guys to get him assists, would u agree?

He only featured for 8 minutes last night. Surely he would have gotten more minutes if the manager wanted to build up his match fitness? I'd tread carefully. Stoke do not have the best of fixtures either so I'd avoid him personally.
