Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 12

We carry out our club-by-club scan of the treatment rooms, on the day that West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet was ruled out for up to three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton.

Elsewhere, Liverpool face an anxious wait for the full prognosis on Mamadou Sakho’s knee problem, whilst City are boosted by Sergio Aguero’s progress, as Wilfried Bony is left nursing his hamstring.

Arsenal

Santi Cazorla was replaced by Manuel Flamini at half time of the North London derby, in what initially looked like a tactical decision. Arsene Wenger revealed in his post-match press conference, however, that the Spanish playmaker was suffering from dizziness that affected his mobility:

“We suffered in the first half because Cazorla was at 30 per cent of his potential, he was dizzy. I was sitting there thinking do I take him off or not? You never know, maybe it will get better. At half-time I took him off, and in the second half we had a bit better balance. He is not sick, he was just dizzy and could not move, you could see that on the pitch. I did not really know what he had, so at half-time I took him off, I hope it is nothing bad, but it does not look like it, because he says he is alright now.”

Bournemouth

Eddie Howe confirmed that Marc Pugh – who was withdraw after 45 minutes last Gameweek – was unavailable for selection after failing to shake off a knock.

Chelsea

The Blues defender Kurt Zouma has withdrawn from duties for the France Under 21 side due to an unspecified injury earlier today.

Crystal Palace

Eagles fitness coach John Salako has issued an update on Dwight Gayle, who missed the weekend win over Liverpool due to a hamstring injury:

“Dwight works very hard and, unfortunately, I think he’s got a Grade Two tear – he’s had the scan. He could face three-to-four weeks on the sidelines now. He is young so we’ll see, it could be two weeks, it could be (up to) four.”

Everton

Tyias Browning picked up a minor knee injury in training during the week, ruling him out for England U21’s match-up against Bosnia on Thursday. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We had a warm-up game on Wednesday and he picked up an injury in his knee. It is nothing serious but we’ll have to speak with England and manage that situation. I don’t think he’ll be available for the next game, but he could be available for the game against Switzerland in Brighton.”

Fellow full-back Brendan Galloway is also being assessed ahead of England U21’s upcoming pair of matches. Earlier today, manager Gareth Southgate revealed:

“Brendan is being assessed now, he is with us. It’s a muscular injury but we don’t want to take any chances. Maybe he is okay for Thursday; maybe he is okay for Monday. We don’t know.”

Liverpool

The Merseysiders were rocked earlier this evening after scans confirmed that Mamadou Sakho is set for a period on the sidelines after limping off early during the weekend loss to Palace. Liverpool expect to discover the likely period of absence tomorrow, with the Frenchman set to see a specialist.

Jordon Ibe has withdrawn from England U21 duties against Bosnia and Switzerland with a knee injury, The youngster suffered no more than bruising, though, and is expected to be available for the Gameweek 13 trip to City.

James Milner sat out Sunday’s defeat having suffered a hamstring injury in their Europa League clash against Rubin Kazan. After the Anfield loss, Jurgen Klopp played down the severity of the injury:

“In Kazan, he had not the best moment with his muscle. But he’s an experienced player, and it was nothing serious and in this moment he can train.”

Manchester City

Wilfried Bony pulled up with a hamstring problem at Villa Park and had to be substituted at the 24-minute mark. Although Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Ivorian to play for his country during the international break, he did suggest that Bony could travel with the squad to get his injury assessed:

“It is difficult to know at this moment how serious his hamstring injury is. We will see tomorrow. I don’t know – maybe he will have to go and join up with Ivory Coast. His country must review the injury. But I don’t think he will be able to play and he will return to Manchester.”

In more positive developments for the Sky Blues, Pellegrini reported that a quartet of injured players are progressing well in their rehabilitation, with Sergio Aguero targeting a return next Gamweek against Liverpool:

“I hope that this week he [Aguero], (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri and (Pablo) Zabaleta, will work with the physiotherapist and next Monday they will start working with the squad. We will see in the way he improves this week, but I think there is a chance he can be (back for Liverpool).”

Earlier today, Aguero took to twitter to confirm:

“Giving it my all on recovery work. There’s still more to go but getting better by the day!”

Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini missed Manchester United’s 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion and will not travel with Belgium ahead of their back-to-back friendlies, given that he sustained an injury in training.

Norwich City

Nathan Redmond was sidelined for the Canaries’ win over Swansea and has withdrawn from international duty with the England U21s, having injured his thigh in midweek.

Newcastle United

In the wake of the Magpies’ 1-0 road victory against Bournemouth, stand-in shot-stopper Rob Elliot revealed that he played against the advice of the club’s doctors. The former Charlton keeper is nursing a thigh injury but is confident that a fortnight of rest will hold him in good stead when Leicester City pay a visit next Gameweek.

“If you ask the manager, I was always playing. If you ask the doctor, then I probably wasn’t playing last week either. I was always going to play, and I didn’t know how good or bad it was going to be. It wasn’t too bad today, it was quite painful and I just had to get underneath the ball and lift it, you just don’t want to let the team down. I said to the manager, if you want me to play I will play, but just so long as I’m not going to hinder the team. I’m going to go and see the specialist and hopefully get some good news off him. Get some treatment, get some strength, get some rest. Hopefully I’ll be ready for Leicester and hopefully (we can) start showing the team that we can be, rather than the team we could be.”

Sunderland

John O’Shea is carrying a hamstring injury and will be assessed by Sunderland’s medical team to determine his availability for Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifying play-off:

“Rob Elliot, John O’Shea, Paul McShane, Alan Judge, and Shane Long will all be assessed by their respective clubs before reporting for international duty.”

West Ham United

The Hammers have been dealt a major blow after Dimitri Payet was ruled out for around three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton on Saturday. His replacement against the Toffees, Enner Valencia, was forced off with a similar complaint and will be assessed by a specialist early next week, the club’s official website has revealed.

FFF is very unreliable at forecasting fallers.

He's only -60.3% on fplstatistics, so extremely unlikely to fall before tomorrow tonight.

So people are against getting Cabaye purely because he is on 4 yellows? Amazing fixtures and on pens and FKs offset this?

      if you've got a decent 5th mid (Alli/Albrighton-type) I wouldn't worry about the 4 yellow cards

Yes. Why bring in a player who could card a yellow and miss a game?

Unless you've got a decent fifth mid it seems pretty silly to me.

He also seems pretty reliant on pens

      1. Now I'm Panicking
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 6 months ago

Yeah, but any player could pick up 2 yellows in a match and miss a game (e.g. Mane if it wasn't for the C1C) - if we aren't picking players on 4 YCs, we are going to be limiting our options a lot when it comes to late December, especially as YCs seems more plentiful this year.

Logged in today to find a FPL mess!

Bellerin, Payet, Bony and Westwood dead.

I missed the rises last night so slightly annoyed about that but what can you do.

Payet out for Ozil? Seems like the logical things to do. I have Sanchez though so not 100%

    Keeprs

Kola - van Dijk - Bellerin - Richards - Rojo

    Westwood - Mahrez - Sanchez - KdB - Payet

    Pelle - Bony - Vardy

    4.4 mil in the bank.

Any thoughts on what to sort out first? Need to drop a big defender to afford Aguero in. Bellerin maybe? Will lose .1 on him if he drops tonight :\

I'm in the same boat, Al with 4 big defender. I equally don't know who to drop.

Will you ever play Richards? Why not get Simpson as a premie-bench defender and free up 0.5m/0.6m or do you need to free up more than that?

      1. Clintymints
        • 14 Years
        8 years, 6 months ago

I'm losing value on Bellerin and need all the .1's I can get with Aguero coming back. I usually have 1 3.9 defender but just transfered him out last week actually so will get one back soon! - Wasn't spending points on it last week + wanted to see new manager for Villa

Is Simpsons nailed? doesn't Fuchs play rb?

Bellerin out I might do since the injury and drop today or tomorrow

Fuchs is at LB. Not sure how nailed Simpson is, tbh.

Ozil vs Coutinho... what are peoples thoughts?

Ozil stats over the last 12 GWs:
Made 11 appearances for 933mins of game time
15 shots, 9 in the box, 6 on target, 1 goal
54 chances created, 10 assists, averaging 4.9 chances created per game and 0.9 assists per game

Coutinho stats over the last 12 GWs:
Made 11 appearances for 926mins of game time
52 shots, 24 in box, 15 on target, 4 goals, averaging 5 shots per game, 1.4 shots on target and 0.4 goals per game
14 chances created, 2 assists, averaging 1.3 chances created per game

Shots vs assists is basically the inverse of the other. Ozils consistency has it for me at the moment, but is reliant on Giroud/Wally/Sanchez converting the chances, and if Coutinho keeps improving under Klopp (sample size is too small really to identify a trend), he could be fpl gold with those shot stats (ie very similar to Alexis).

What other considerations do we need to take into account?

Get both. Both central to their team's attacking returns. Both in form.

KdB seems pricey at the minute compared with Ozil. I'm taking the view that I can bring in Sterling or Silva later for less.

      Nothing...you're "playing the game"....nice...

Coutinho's stats have always been much better than his pts though..oddly...the same applies to Ozil and look how that's changed for the better...

Just an old chestnut of mine as folk consider (-4)'s and (-8)'s..

There's no such thing as a (-4) or (-8)...The only sum that matters is the pts your existing team would have scored without your changes v the points your new team scored net of transfer costs...

It's not quite the same thing....

      Yes it is

You could say that "every week I was better off with X or y", but you wouldn't have to take a hit if set up correctly

I have freaky relationship with hits. I rarely only use 1 FT. It's always save one, use 2.... Or a big hit.
I reckon my transfer activity mirrors my real life. A few weeks of harmony followed by a week of mayhem.

I mean of course… if only going by this season's results than ofcours it is 'outdated'. But I was just looking at the formula behind all these numbers and tbh… it's a pretty much perfect balance.

3rd fewest chances conceded in the Premier League and if you exclude GWs 9 and 10 where they conceded 10 goals they're in 6th for big chances conceded. Hardly the swiss cheese defense people make them out to be, which is why it was funny everyone loaded up on Soton ahead of that match.
