Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 12

We carry out our club-by-club scan of the treatment rooms, on the day that West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet was ruled out for up to three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton.

Elsewhere, Liverpool face an anxious wait for the full prognosis on Mamadou Sakho’s knee problem, whilst City are boosted by Sergio Aguero’s progress, as Wilfried Bony is left nursing his hamstring.

Arsenal

Santi Cazorla was replaced by Manuel Flamini at half time of the North London derby, in what initially looked like a tactical decision. Arsene Wenger revealed in his post-match press conference, however, that the Spanish playmaker was suffering from dizziness that affected his mobility:

“We suffered in the first half because Cazorla was at 30 per cent of his potential, he was dizzy. I was sitting there thinking do I take him off or not? You never know, maybe it will get better. At half-time I took him off, and in the second half we had a bit better balance. He is not sick, he was just dizzy and could not move, you could see that on the pitch. I did not really know what he had, so at half-time I took him off, I hope it is nothing bad, but it does not look like it, because he says he is alright now.”

Bournemouth

Eddie Howe confirmed that Marc Pugh – who was withdraw after 45 minutes last Gameweek – was unavailable for selection after failing to shake off a knock.

Chelsea

The Blues defender Kurt Zouma has withdrawn from duties for the France Under 21 side due to an unspecified injury earlier today.

Crystal Palace

Eagles fitness coach John Salako has issued an update on Dwight Gayle, who missed the weekend win over Liverpool due to a hamstring injury:

“Dwight works very hard and, unfortunately, I think he’s got a Grade Two tear – he’s had the scan. He could face three-to-four weeks on the sidelines now. He is young so we’ll see, it could be two weeks, it could be (up to) four.”

Everton

Tyias Browning picked up a minor knee injury in training during the week, ruling him out for England U21’s match-up against Bosnia on Thursday. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We had a warm-up game on Wednesday and he picked up an injury in his knee. It is nothing serious but we’ll have to speak with England and manage that situation. I don’t think he’ll be available for the next game, but he could be available for the game against Switzerland in Brighton.”

Fellow full-back Brendan Galloway is also being assessed ahead of England U21’s upcoming pair of matches. Earlier today, manager Gareth Southgate revealed:

“Brendan is being assessed now, he is with us. It’s a muscular injury but we don’t want to take any chances. Maybe he is okay for Thursday; maybe he is okay for Monday. We don’t know.”

Liverpool

The Merseysiders were rocked earlier this evening after scans confirmed that Mamadou Sakho is set for a period on the sidelines after limping off early during the weekend loss to Palace. Liverpool expect to discover the likely period of absence tomorrow, with the Frenchman set to see a specialist.

Jordon Ibe has withdrawn from England U21 duties against Bosnia and Switzerland with a knee injury, The youngster suffered no more than bruising, though, and is expected to be available for the Gameweek 13 trip to City.

James Milner sat out Sunday’s defeat having suffered a hamstring injury in their Europa League clash against Rubin Kazan. After the Anfield loss, Jurgen Klopp played down the severity of the injury:

“In Kazan, he had not the best moment with his muscle. But he’s an experienced player, and it was nothing serious and in this moment he can train.”

Manchester City

Wilfried Bony pulled up with a hamstring problem at Villa Park and had to be substituted at the 24-minute mark. Although Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Ivorian to play for his country during the international break, he did suggest that Bony could travel with the squad to get his injury assessed:

“It is difficult to know at this moment how serious his hamstring injury is. We will see tomorrow. I don’t know – maybe he will have to go and join up with Ivory Coast. His country must review the injury. But I don’t think he will be able to play and he will return to Manchester.”

In more positive developments for the Sky Blues, Pellegrini reported that a quartet of injured players are progressing well in their rehabilitation, with Sergio Aguero targeting a return next Gamweek against Liverpool:

“I hope that this week he [Aguero], (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri and (Pablo) Zabaleta, will work with the physiotherapist and next Monday they will start working with the squad. We will see in the way he improves this week, but I think there is a chance he can be (back for Liverpool).”

Earlier today, Aguero took to twitter to confirm:

“Giving it my all on recovery work. There’s still more to go but getting better by the day!”

Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini missed Manchester United’s 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion and will not travel with Belgium ahead of their back-to-back friendlies, given that he sustained an injury in training.

Norwich City

Nathan Redmond was sidelined for the Canaries’ win over Swansea and has withdrawn from international duty with the England U21s, having injured his thigh in midweek.

Newcastle United

In the wake of the Magpies’ 1-0 road victory against Bournemouth, stand-in shot-stopper Rob Elliot revealed that he played against the advice of the club’s doctors. The former Charlton keeper is nursing a thigh injury but is confident that a fortnight of rest will hold him in good stead when Leicester City pay a visit next Gameweek.

“If you ask the manager, I was always playing. If you ask the doctor, then I probably wasn’t playing last week either. I was always going to play, and I didn’t know how good or bad it was going to be. It wasn’t too bad today, it was quite painful and I just had to get underneath the ball and lift it, you just don’t want to let the team down. I said to the manager, if you want me to play I will play, but just so long as I’m not going to hinder the team. I’m going to go and see the specialist and hopefully get some good news off him. Get some treatment, get some strength, get some rest. Hopefully I’ll be ready for Leicester and hopefully (we can) start showing the team that we can be, rather than the team we could be.”

Sunderland

John O’Shea is carrying a hamstring injury and will be assessed by Sunderland’s medical team to determine his availability for Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifying play-off:

“Rob Elliot, John O’Shea, Paul McShane, Alan Judge, and Shane Long will all be assessed by their respective clubs before reporting for international duty.”

West Ham United

The Hammers have been dealt a major blow after Dimitri Payet was ruled out for around three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton on Saturday. His replacement against the Toffees, Enner Valencia, was forced off with a similar complaint and will be assessed by a specialist early next week, the club’s official website has revealed.

No. My 8 is pretty settled and I'm working on my DEF. Currently

      Kompany VVD Rojo Cathcart Targett

      Thinking Cathcart>Rose soon
      Kompany maybe future downgrade
Targett could become Hutton who I think could be a good cheap buy under Garde

Looks like lots have dug themselves a big hole spending all that Aguero money. I took plenty of flack for avoiding De Bruyne few weeks ago, but he would have done nothing except mess up the team structure
So many were telling me he was essential and a season keeper, now when i look at their teams he seems to be the major problem.

He's the bank for many, KdB + ??? -> ??? + Aguero is just 2FTs away. I think spending money on defence looks to be the bigger issue.

Wouldnt spending money on one big player be better for team structure compared to spreading it around? Or in your experience, it's better to neither and keep it in the bank?

Unfortunately, most aren't going to be penalized much because it's now easy to do Payet downgraded significantly to create Kun funds.

The Payet injury is more of a problem if owning KDB too. He was the natural one to downgrade, but now many are forced to downgrade Payet insted and are stuck with De Bruyyne.
To compound it many have also been putting money into defence, and with no wildcard for most it is likel to be hits galore in a week or two

I get your point, but 'hits galore' seems a bit exaggerated.
Doesnt look like many want Aguero right away, and 2-3 FTs in the next couple of weeks would be sufficient if and when they do.

I'm tempted to make the Sánchez to Ozil transfer. I've got de Bruyne & Mané who are boom or bust players, Ozil will bring some nice consistency to my midfield.

Is De Bruyne a boom or bust player ? I do not think so....his main prowess is creating chances and he is a consistent performer chipping in 3-6 points every game

Sanchez on the other hand is a 'boom or bust' player IMO

Not sure what to make of Özil to be honest. His Chances Created to Assists ratio is now totally out of whack with the league average, but we also know he's the kind of player who is capable of picking up the "great assister" title vacated by Fabregas.

I guess that's the point. With most players you would look at thise stats and think "he won't keep that up for long". I think their too high even for a player of Özil's quality, but that doesn't mean he will suddenly stop scoring points.

Great taste mate, I'm guessing you have a decked out PC eh? Total War's a great series, loved Medieval 2. How's Diablo 3 post auction house?

Game of the year hands down for me, the story is masterfully crafted, the world is huge & might be as big as Witcher 3, gameplay solid as well.

I just heard you're way better off playing with a controller, it's way easier to control the precise movement. Pretty sure you can play M&KB though.

Diablo 3 is awesome now. They've done a great job after the auction house. Defo check it out.

Hmm... MGS V is on my radar then 😉

I heard that too. Have the first Darksouls in my steam library, might buy a controller - any good cheap ones out there? Drop me a reply on lebron85@gmail.com

Understandable, as said, Witcher 3 will take a decent chunk of time.

Wasn't a fan of Shadow of Mordor myself, gameplay is good but the characters really pissed me off.

Gosling is safer, but Stanislas is more interesting (and 0.2 cheaper). The thing is, once you get to Gosling's price, then you're hard pressed not to just pony up 0.1 more and get Drinkwater.

    Butland l Hennessey
    Kolarov l Bertrand l Moreno l Dawson l Souare

    Kane l Lukaku l Vardy

4.2ITB to bring in Aguero when fit.

Looks good, but I'd get Kolarov out for an Arsenal or Utd defender personally. It's risky to not have any defenders from the two top defensive sides.

was just having a look at my team and noticed a lot of double ups.
have that feeling I may be relying on too few teams as such.

Spending time on here really makes it feel like you're conforming and going template as such. Especially this season.

    Doubled up on:
    SOT (fwd, def)
    CITY (def, mid)
    WBA (gk, def)
    LEI (fwd, mid)
    EVE (fwd mid)

Does this come into your reckoning, or do you figure that form will win out in the end? Rather than "cover". Thoughts?

Thinking of doing these transfers next week
    (Pelle> Lukaku
    Mahrez>Silva

    Clyne sure to drop
    And an imminent Moreno rise

I want to do Payet > Ozil but that means not having enough for Pelle > Kun (short 1.6m). Don't want to sell Sanchez or KDB so I'm thinking the only way is to sell Kolarov to a max 4.2m defender.

Basically Payet > Ozil this week, Kolarov > 4.2m max next week and then Pelle > Kun the week after

    gives me for GW15

    Butland - McCarthy
    Bellerin - Van Dijk - Williams - Richards - 4.2m
Sanchez - De Bruyne - Ozil - Mahrez - Sinclair
    Aguero - Lukaku - Vardy

I think in time I could do Butland > DDG to cover that. Also City fixtures look good for attack but tricky for defense.

Who are you replacing Payet with?

Alternatively I'm considering Deulofeu in since I have Alexis. Allows me freedom to do Pelle > Kun in one move so that I have that in my backpocket for when he's ready.

Ozil means we must take more hits, and downgrade someone too.
we have to consider Ozil vs Deulofeu/Barkley/Willian + points saved from hit + better defenders we can keep in the team (kolarov...)

Great stuff, looking forward to how it turns out, make sure to post it on the team thread for some advice 🙂

Aye, I'm still deliberating it, though FWIW I can't see why Martinez would bench him after his latest permanence. Cheers mate 🙂

                Will do 🙂

Yeah I see your point, but Everton have a mad abundance of wingers so a poor performance could see him out of the team. It's worth noting that he's only started the last three (and played 90 mins in only one of those) so it's not too clear cut imo (in the long term, anyway).

Aye, it's definitely an unclear situation right now, Barkley's probably the safer choice. Hopefully Martinez alludes to something during pressers, still think he's worth the risk though tbh, 58% goal involvement in his 5 starts! Thanks bud 🙂

he is nailed .. the question is to double up or not (assume you have lukaku) !!

B I guess. D is a good punt. Could prove good IF CHE get free kicks (the only way he has scored in the league). C too inconsistent and A, well the same.

I don't think the decision to start Aguero should be based on anything other than Aguero's fitness and I think that Pellegrini agrees, especially after the criminal way he managed him post-injury (over and over) in 13/14.

next week at earliest. all depends on who I get for Payet. looking more likely that I get him for GW15

Ozil (if you want to double up ) or coutinho or Bolasie(for short term) .. all depends on money needed to get Kun)

he also said "more to do" in his tweet so I can't see him getting more than 30 at the very most vs Liverpool

Nah, if Aguero is fit he'll start, if not he won't. If Both are out then Kelechi or Sterling up top.
