Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 17

Claudio Ranieri and Mauricio Pochettino play down Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane’s weekend withdrawals. Eddie Howe is sweating over the fitness of Junior Stanislas and Josh King, whilst Alan Pardew has concerns over Yohan Cabaye and Connor Wickham.

Bournemouth
Josh King sat out the Cherries’ trip to West Bromwich Albion after suffering a recurrence of the hamstring knock he sustained against Manchester United during the warm-up of Saturday’s win at West Brom.

Post-match, Eddie Howe also confirmed that Junior Stanislas was substituted in the 70th minute at The Hawthorns with a similar complaint:

“Certainly with our current situation, we don’t want any more injuries. We lost Joshua in the warm-up which was a huge blow to our team and the way that we play. He just felt his hamstring. We don’t think it is a pull but he was aware of something that had followed on from last week. We had his hamstring checked so we were surprised to hear he had felt something. We are hopeful it is not long-term. Junior felt a little bit of something in his hamstring so we are hopeful we haven’t picked up two serious injuries.”

Crystal Palace
Yohan Cabaye picked up a heel injury in training and was subsequently ruled out of the Eagles’ trip to the Britannia Stadium. Elsewhere in the Palace camp, Connor Wickham was withdrawn just beyond the hour mark with a hamstring strain.

Everton
Steven Naismith was unavailable for selection this Gameweek by virtue of an ankle knock he suffered in midweek training.

Leicester City
Claudio Ranieri played down the hamstring problem that saw Jamie Vardy subbed off in the 87th minute at Goodison Park:

“Yes he was a little bit hurt and he was a bit tired. But it’s nothing serious, so I put on Ulloa to keep possession and jump on set plays.”

Newcastle United
Papiss Cisse will undergo a scan today for a groin injury he sustained during the first half of Newcastle’s home tie against Aston Villa.

Liverpool
Martin Skrtel was forced off in the first period of the Reds’ road encounter against Watford, and Jurgen Klopp is unsure when the Slovakian centre-back will return to action:

“Martin Skrtel is injured now, that is a problem I don’t know who will come back in this moment. Nobody had a rest, now we have to look who is available for Boxing Day.”

As for the Merseysiders’ goalkeeper situation, Adam Bogdan stood in for Simon Mignolet, who sustained a minor hamstring injury:

“It is not a big thing with Simon, he tried everything, but if you have someone like Adam on the bench you have to use this opportunity.”

Swansea City
Wayne Routledge was sidelined for Swansea’s home tie against West Ham United with a knee injury, while Angel Rangel left the field at the 69-minute mark after twisting his ankle.

Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Harry Kane’s substitution in stoppage time at St Mary’s Stadium was just a “precaution”.

Meanwhile, Danny Rose was ruled out through illness. In a more serious development on the injury front, Clinton N’Jie faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to knee ligaments he damaged in Spurs’ Europa League win over Monaco.

West Bromwich Albion

Claudio Yacob was absent for West Brom’s home defeat to Bournemouth as he’s currently in Argentina on compassionate leave. Tony Pulis admitted there’s no time scale on the midfielder’s return:

“No, he’s still out there. Obviously that’s a very very sad thing that’s happened with Claudio and his family. We’ll give him as much time as he wants. He knows that he has the support of the football club and whatever time he needs to be with his family were quite happy to accommodate that.”

Vardy I think will be rested over Christmas, but Ighalos fixtures don't look too tempting.
It's a tough call but I'd keep Vardy.

Ighalo next 4: Chelsea, Spurs, Man City, Southampton (Tough set of fixtures)
      - unlikely to be rested, in good form but poor fixtures

Vardy next 4: Liverpool, Man City, Bournemouth, Spurs (Tough set of fixtures)
      - fixtures a little easier than Ighalo's in my opinion
      - proved he can score against big teams
      - more than likely will be rested at least once in the next three games

Lukaku next 4: Newcastle, Stoke, Spurs, Man city (Tough set of fixtures)
      - I think this is a very difficult set of games to come up against
      - on good form though

Kane next 4: Norwich, Watford, Everton, Leicester (Relatively easy fixtures)
      - much easier fixtures against teams which can't keep clean sheets
      - not quite as reliable as the above three strikers but still quite consistent

Aguero next 4: Sunderland, Watford, Leicester, Everton (Relatively easy fixtures)
      - Nice fixtures
      - Injury prone
      - 13.0m price tag
      - not guaranteed full games
      - explosive as hell, could really be the key to catching mini league leaders

Giroud next 4: Southampton, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Liverpool (Good fixtures)
      - Susceptible to rotation of Christmas period
      - Fairly consistent (lately)
      - Good fixtures

For me, I don't think Ighalos fixtures make him a good purchase if you don't have him already. Vardy has proved time and time again that he is essential and I think it would be foolish to ditch him (until maybe his suspension).
Kane I think is a must, or at the very least some Tottenham cover like Delli Alli, Lamela or Erikson but these are all punts.
I would love to invest in Aguero but I really think until he comes through his injury fully he's going to let you down by sitting on the bench.
Lukaku is coming into a tough run of games, that's not to say he won't score but if you're trying to catch someone in your ML it might be a good time to run with a differential like Giroud.

It's simple, if Vardy misses a game via injury, he must be shipped beforehand. If he misses due to suspension after the match, you can consider keeping, but I'd probably still sell.

    Hi. Need some advice.

    My team.

    Myhill Hennessey
    Moreno Kolarov Cedric Huth Wollscheid
    Barkley Ozil KDB Mahrez Barry
    Kane Lukaku Vardy

I have 2 FT and WC.
    7.5M ITB.

Seems like a perfect situation regarding transfers and money, but I don't know what to do.

I want MUN and TOT defense I guess. Cedric is a dissapointment.
Ighalo is killing me, but you know, if I get him, he will stop delivering 🙂
Maybe opt for 3-5-2 with Ighalo as my third striker?
Kun is the man I want when he gets minutes and form.

So If you see something I don't, please share.

    Thanks

you having Barry upsets me. card magnet and not really a deliverer. You must be able to get a better 5th mid. Honestly see no issues here really, you main area to address is as you say Cedric

Barry is a bench only player. Bought at the time when I wanted Sanchez and Kun, so I had cash only for 4.3M player.

Maybe I'll go for stronger 5th midfielder, for festive period.

        Thanks for reply.

Cress is 0.5 more, with his last assist 8 GWs a go, and almost all of Westham's forwards injured. He also doesn't get many BAPS. So not sure why not save the money and have a Tomkins or Ogbona instead.

One of the problems with the due tables are that they show the potential but still they can continue frustrating for 4-5 weeks. Example Mané. Investing in someone else already firing makes up the difference across those 4-5 weeks. 🙁

Meant to post this (not reply to someone)

I can't but in the next two weeks there are 4 games (including tonights).
He's on the back of an injury, it's just minutes we need to be concerned about.

It's the easiest way to categorize them, we can call them 'Not so nice fixtures'. Ighalo will definitely score in the next 4, but I think the extent and probability to which he will is severely lessened.

I don't see any game as a "poor fixture" for anyone in form atm, Chelsea, City, United, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal have all shown that they're susceptible to the most unlikely of teams, and when Ighalo/Vardy/Lukaku are in form, and people like Kane and Aguero aren't in form surely it's better to play the form this season at least

Really need to get rid of VvD, but really slim pickings among defenders this season. Current defense is Alderweireld - Bellerin - VvD - Nyom - Francis. Some options I'm eyeing that have good fixtures are :

    a) Ward - dullard, but sensible as premium defenders aren't delivering
    b) Dier - double up Spurs
    c) Koscielny - double up Arsenal
    d) Ivanovic - luxury choice, and will ther really start getting clean sheets. Facing Ighalo next

.. or there might be other good choices that I'm missing?

How big is the rotation over Christmas? Can I assume that most of the players playing on 26th won't be nailed for 28th? Do you recall how it looked last year? Would you use WC for 28th?

If he comes through tonight one of my FTs will be spent on Deulofeu out for Ramsey. Is there currently any other issues you think need addressing here?

    Myhill, Henessey

    Bellerin, Smalling, Rose, Ward. Simpson

    Silva, Ozil, Deulofeu(Ramsey), Mahrez, Morrison

    Ighalo, Kane, Lukaku

will have about 5.0 ITB after the Ramsey move. Would like to move Ward or Simpson on for Ake but not sure this is the week to do it
