Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

Wayne Rooney maintains his fine scoring form by bagging United’s winner at Anfield. Stoke and Arsenal play out a goalless draw at the Britannia, with Mesut Ozil missing out due to a minor foot problem.

Rooney Wins it for Red Devils

Courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s fourth league goal in three outings, Manchester United edged past Liverpool at Anfield, putting them right back in contention for a Champions League berth. The Red Devils legend – who surpassed Thierry Henry (175) as the top scorer for a single club (176) in the Premier League – is enjoying a resurgence of late and with 33 FPL points over the last trio of fixtures, has emerged as a viable differential at the 9.9 mark ahead of back-to-back home ties (SOU, STO).

Marouane Fellaini turned provider for his second assist in as many starts but remains on the periphery of our thinking. In light of Juan Mata’s absence of form (no attacking returns since Gameweek 12), we’re still searching for an attractive route into Man United’s lacklustre midfield – indeed, the Spaniard was reduced to sub duties for the second match in succession as Jesse Lingard (4.2) kept his role on the flank.

United’s trip to Merseyside yielded their 11th clean sheet of the campaign – more than any other side. Given the surfeit of injured defenders at the club, Chris Smalling represents the only secure route into their rearguard. Although he carries a prohibitive price tag (6.7), match-ups against Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland harbour strong shut-out potential over the next four Gameweeks.

Klopp’s Men Stutter Again

Defeat at the hands of Man United means that Liverpool lay claim to just two wins across their previous six outings, with inconsistency at both ends making it hard to pinpoint any tantalising pick-ups among Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Certainly, the Reds are suffering from a dreadful shot-conversion rate (4.2% since Gameweek 17) that stems from their lack of a consistent presence up front. That being said, their favourable batch of upcoming fixtures (nor, lei, SUN, avl) could reward those Fantasy managers who take a punt on the likes of Roberto Firmino, if the Brazilian can rediscover the form that served up a brace against Arsenal last Wednesday.

Ozil Absence Blunts Gunners

Mesut Ozil’s omission from the matchday squad was the chief talking point prior to Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Stoke City. The Germany international had an inflamed foot but is expected to be passed fit for the Gunners’ home tie against Chelsea next Sunday.

Arsenal struggled to carve open the hosts’ organised back line in the absence of their midfield orchestrator – notching 14 fewer key passes than Newcastle United (20) this Gameweek – but did manage to secure their third clean sheet in four matches. Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny all serve as alluring routes into a defence that enjoys three home encounters over the next four Gameweeks (CHE, SOU, bou, LEI).

Another shut-out for Potters

The Potters chalked up six more attempts (14 compared to eight) and double Arsenal’s tally of shots on target (six to three) but ultimately failed to muster a single big chance without the injured Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings. Nonetheless, Jack Butland’s 24% ownership profited from the Staffordshire outfit’s first clean sheet in four fixtures. Given that Stoke have accrued the joint-second-most clean sheets on the road (five), they’ll fancy their chances of rebuffing Leicester City’s misfiring attack (two goals in five) next Gameweek, whilst upcoming trips to United and Bournemouth won’t hold much fear in light of their defensive form.

Any words of wisdom gratefully received!

    Butland
    Dier Bellerin Smith
    Barkley KBD Ozil Mahrez
    Kun Kane Lukaku
Subs – Alli Wolly Delaney Henners
    2FTs £0 ITB

    Who would you shift first?
A – Wolly (next 4 Stoke fixtures are tough) –
B – Henners (going to be dropped after howlers?)
    C – Mahrez – off the boil

      Keep Hennessey and Mahrez

Not many wolly replacements at 4.5

I would probably ship Kane ➡ Ighalo and possibly upgrade Alli/Barkley to Payet

Would go for the Payet transfer but not sure I can do it without taking out someone who I would prefer to keep.
Out of my 15 theres only 3-4 I would get rid of right now - Wolly Delaney Henners and Mahrez

Baines - Penalties taken (16) - Scored(15).......He surely is Everton's number one right? Or has things changed since his Penalty save by DDG ? Lukaku has taken 4 & scored 3. Barkley and Mirallas in the mix too. But, both of them have missed their last penalties.

    So, who's Everton's number 1 penalty taker? :/

Nyom - I saw someone on here yesterday mention that he might not start tonight. Is there anything to it? Is the thinking that he's lost his place, or does he look like he needs a rest?

He does seem to get subbed off quite often, but I thought he was a pretty nailed-on starter..?

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 23

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 9am tomorrow (Thursday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.
In addition, from this week FantasyBet (https://www.fantasybet.com/) are offering Community Champions the chance to win free entry into their £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22 by taking on our Scout Picks in a specially set up game ahead of Gameweek 11.
The eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55. This is an extra offer that is available to any community champion who is 18 or over and not based in the US.
Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Please note that the budget is now 84m.

Also the FantasyBet entry is well worth it. Red Devil, who was one of the recent community champs, won £125 over the weekend in the big weekly game that he got free access to.

Has Barkley done something lately or are people bringing him just because of those nice run of fixtures?

This is why I'm hesitant to bring him in this week, every time I've done a transfer or captain pick due to fixture rather than form i've been burned

It has more got to do with Van Gaal's style of play than Rooney himself imo. \o/

I do agree. I would assume those who are selling him are mostly casuals who are bringing Aguero in.

They want Aguero can be the only answer but there are people who will sell him because he has blanked in his last 2 games regardless of his upcoming fixtures after all he has a very high ownership

As an owner I am delighted with this news! I've got the armband on him next GW. He's blanked due to having two tough fixtures, he'll be back in the goals soon.

What do we think of the chances of a Swansea clean sheet tonight? I know most will have Ighalo but just unbiased opinions if possible lol.

Also what about Saints defence fo the future?

    Any suggestions, 0.1 in bank..

    DDG / Schwarzer
    Moreno McAuley Janmaat Alderweireld Bellerin
    Ozil Stanislas Alli Mahrez KDB
    Ighalo Aguero Kane

Still have WC, was thinking maybe Ighalo -> Lukaku and Ozil -> Arnautovic but I just don't know. Also considering finally selling Mahrez, thoughts?
