The Midweek Team News

Guus Hiddink considers resting Diego Costa for one of Chelsea’s next two league matches. N’Golo Kante is ruled out of Leicester’s upcoming pair of top-flight encounters, Shane Long remains a doubt as Southampton head to Bournemouth, whilst Chris Brunt is ruled out of West Brom’s trip to the King Power.

Arsene Wenger hinted at making changes to his XI earlier this morning after admitting the likes of Danny Welbeck may not be “completely fit” to deal with the hectic schedule. The Gunners boss also went on to confirm that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out for six-to-eight weeks with a knee injury.

Sunderland have no fresh injury worries for the visit of Palace, Sam Allardyce has confirmed. It’s “as you were” for the Black Cats, then, with Jeremain Lens and Duncan Watmore the only players sidelined.

Eddie Howe reckons that Junior Stanislas will be out “for a few weeks” after undergoing scans on the hamstring injury that forced him off last weekend. The Bournemouth boss conceded he will manage Max Gradel’s minutes after the winger returned from a long-term knee injury last weekend, whilst Lewis Grabban has stepped up his recovery from a groin problem but remains a doubt.

Chris Brunt is set to see a specialist today after sustaining a knee injury in the weekend win over Palace. Tony Pulis conceded he’s keen to field “a similar team” from the one that defeated the Eagles, though Jonny Evans – if fit – will return.

N’Golo Kante has been ruled out of the next couple of Gameweeks due to a hamstring problem, Claudio Ranieri has admitted. The Foxes boss confirmed that Andy King is set to start in central midfield alongside Danny Drinkwater, whilst he’s also set to welcome back Danny Simpson from a one-match ban against the Baggies.

Seb Bassong and Wes Hoolahan remain doubtful for Norwich’s home match with Chelsea, Alex Neil has revealed. Andre Wisdom is still sidelined with a knee complaint, whilst Patrick Bamford cannot play against his parent club.

John Terry will remain sidelined for Chelsea’s trip to Norwich, Guus Hiddink has revealed. Pedro is also out with the hamstring problem that forced him off early against Southampton, though Alexandre Pato has stepped up his fitness drive and could play a part. Hiddink also went on to admit that he may rest Diego Costa for one of the next two league matches, with one eye on next week’s Champions League clash against PSG, as the Blues attempt to claw back a 2-1 first-leg deficit. Hiddink has also revealed that youngster Bertrand Traore has moved ahead of both Pato and Loic Remy in the pecking order behind Costa for the lone striker role.

Shane Long is Southampton’s only doubt for the trip to Bournemouth after being withdrawn due to a minor hamstring problem on Saturday.

Palace have no fresh injury concerns for their trip to the Stadium of Light, with Bakary Sako back in the fold after returning to full training ahead of their relegation clash.

Mo Besic and Darron Gibson are ruled out of Everton’s visit to Villa, whilst Arouna Kone has recovered from the illness that kept him out of the recent FA Cup win at Bournemouth.

I usually don't ask those questions but can someone help and make a little bit easier my benching headache this week. The defence is :

    VvD Ivanovic Fuchs Daniels Bellerin

Benching two of thos five is a nightmare, can anyone give a good reason to play or bench someone?

you could make a case for all of them defence wise, so I would try and look at it in terms of opponents attack. for me bmouth, nwich, Swansea are weakest. You could also take into account the potential for any to get attacking points, I would say nwich and Swansea most likely to let goals in

      1. Rossonero
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

Thanks for the reply, Ivan is most likely to be on bench due to Terry still beeing out and his attacking threat is limited to corners. Bellering and Fuchs have easiest fixtures so it will probably be a coin toss between Daniels and VvD

there was a bit of talk on WBA forums about fans being happy to see pulis adopt an attacking approach, not saying he may do it away from home but it looks like it could be one of those classic pulis 1-0 steals

I can field an 11 in gw 30 once I get a keeper.

I have the dreaded De Gea and Mccarthy combo. Transfer would be 29 or 30 itself. 1.2m itb

I know what you mean, it's my first time with the armband on Özil this GW, but he's world beating form and Swans aren't great, so there's no logical reason not to.

Would love to have the confidence in Vardy, but afraid of Leicester struggling when WBA invariably play deep and park the bus.

And if Leicester can knock a few past a team sitting deep like Albion will. The fact that Norwich took them to 89' on Saturday is def putting doubts in my mind.

Yeah, surely they'll look at our norwich played. Also no kante and he's a beast getting things moving from midfield.

Agreed and WBA have been tighter at the back away from home.

Its Pulis over there and he knows how to park the bus against high scoring team.
      I'm predicting a 1-0 score for leicester.

Arsenal normally bounce back after a lame display, right?

Usually they do yes. Swansea are playing better also though and are sometimes a bogey team for the gunners

didn't Swansea let spurs have 14 shots on target?

Only two went in 😉 watching the game itself they played with a lot more intensity/passion like they actually wanted it for a change

    Aguero - Kane

    Butland - Ighalo - Francis - Williams (1FT - 0.1 ITB)

Seriously considering but he's done nothing so far for me. I think having him even if he does explode will be enough differential. Swansea did well holding out vs Spurs though so they might set up sinilarly

I captained him for his 3 v Leicester and he had awful form and 1 assist in 6 before that match. Tempted slightly again.

Play Butland or DDG? Leaning towards DDG.

You have a Newcastle team that is terrible away from home but fighting to stay up (always dangerous) and a United team with a great keeper and defense that is shot to shreds with injuries. Tough one.

DDG if I had to choose.

I am sure Watford don't normally have many shots in a game so you are looking at CS only for DDG. Though I suppose Newcastle don't normally have many good shots

Having no idea who to (C) this week... I placed the choice firmly in fate's hands:

Me: Who do I play as Captain this week - Ozil, Kun, Vardy?
    Wife: Vardy
Me: Why did you pick him?
    Wife: Because I can...

    So be it.
