Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery – Part One

Welcome to the first of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your wildcard teams and to help others with their wildcard related issues. I’ve picked the short straw to start the first discussion.

My Wildcard Team

Mignolet Robles

Bellerin Gabriel Sakho Jagielka  Ward

De Bruyne Sanchez Lingard Coutinho Payet

Mitrovic Lukaku Aguero

0.2m in the bank

Strategy

I’m currently keeping a close eye on price changes and drafting in players I’m considering as they expect to rise and ditching those set for a fall. As it stands Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs are in my squad but some if not all of them will depart.

Above is the option I’m considering the most, going all out with  15 double players in double Gameweek 34, having three Everton and one Palace player in place for double Gameweek 33 and for double Gameweek 35 I’ve nine players with two transfers to take me to 11. I’m fine taking a hit if an injury lets me down here. I also have six players in place for double Gameweek 37 with  a view to fielding 10 to 11 with a hit that Gameweek.

My bench boost will be played in double Gameweek  34 and triple captaincy in double Gameweek 37.

Key issues

Dropping Kane

Given the high price tags of Kevin De Bruyne, Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool midfielders plus Arsenal’s key defender Hector Bellerin, as well as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane looks unsustainable. Going without him scares me but to put him in I have to make sacrifices across my whole team. I may very well get him back in for Gameweek 35 though if he punishes me too much. However, if dropping Kane for double Gameweeks 33 and 34 I can be safe in the knowledge that no one will captain him. Shunning Kane also allows for De Bruyne, who looked sharp against Bournemouth and has a great home tie in Gameweek 33, certainly on paper more enticing than Kane’s match up with Van Gaal’s all out defence tactics.

Sanchez over Ozil

Alexis Sanchez looks not only to have won this battle but looks to be the best captaincy pick for double Gameweek 34. I’ve seen enough, he’s in my team.

Punting on Mitrovic

I’ve also seen enough of Newcastle to know that they only have one strategy – get the ball to Alexsandar Mitrovic’s head. With two home games I’m hoping (praying) he can outscore Kane. This is a very rare maverick decision for me and I’m getting scared already thinking of being without Harry.

Ignoring Manchester Utd Defenders

Having no Manchester United defender in particular worries me with two great home games. But none are nailed on except David De Gea and the over priced Chris Smalling. De Gea is an option, but requires surgery in Gameweek 35 when I have no goalies. Jesse Lingard looks to be my only Man Utd player.

Jagielka to fly the dullard flag

If I’m not going to get James Milner then Phil Jagielka is the next best thing for this dullard. Members may note though that in terms of goal attempts he may offer some surprises during the doubles.

Leaving Leicester alone

Of my soon to be ditched Leicester pair of Mahrez and Fuchs it is the defender that worries me the most. Offloading Fuchs’ almost now guaranteed clean sheets and bonus each game will be a wrench. He is also outscoring Mahrez on current form. If any single gameweekers stay he is in pole position.

It was the GWK 35 blank and the lack of faith in Palace attackers that stopped me. Think I'd prefer Lennon if I was going for a midfielder for GWK 33.

I like it. Gabriel over Monreal could save some money. Also keep an eye on Darmian. LVG's full backs are key to his play. If they look like they are performing badly he will haul them off at half time, as Rojo found out. I still think Smalling and DDG are the only nailed on choices, but probably worth a gamble to go for Darmian.

Here's mine. Not a wildcard but this is me.

    Mignolet**
    Bellerin** Smalling Sakho (Fuchs Targett)
    Ozil Alexis(TC) Firmino xx (Alli)
    Aguero Martial Lukaku

Have a dilemma though. Pick and choose.

    A) Mahrez in 33,34 and 35. Okazaki/VVD/Low cost punt in 35 or
    B) Bolasie in 33 and 34. Pelle in 35.

SOT play Villa in 35. Lei play Swans. I can afford the Villa punt being a 36 wcarder.

Yes, that's why I've only got Ward. Nice a cheap. But there is the chance of a clean sheet over two home games. Not hopeful though but for 4.3m its the smallest of risks that doesn't affect the rest of my team.

So your keepers are well cheap, but then I don't have much more confidence in the CS potential of my more expensive Mignolet, so what's the difference.

Strong team otherwise, throughout. Wish I could have Smalling, but you can't have everything.

The low numbers you have for GW35 is my biggest concern, but you recognise this and have your plan.

        Thanks for looking.

I like cheap keepers, always have done they can get save points and any priced keeper can let one goal in.

I am considering dropping the blanks to 5.

Won't move much from this now

I agree on cheap keepers. I always buy them. If it wasn't for Mignolet's additional DGW and lack of a blank (and being a Liverpool fan), and I may not be investing.

I've just pushed the button on mine. I see de Bruyne and Robles are both about 1 day away from the rise that will push them out of my reach, and I'm not going to get any more info in the next two days.

Still room to change bits and pieces, but I'd waste 0.5M if I brought Ozil back.

    DDG - Elliot
    PvA - Daniels - Toby - Bellerin - Fuchs
    Payet - Ozil - Arnie - Siggy - Mahrez
    Kane - Aguero - Lukaku

    I'm thinking:

    Kane > Mitrovic
    Arnie > KdB
    Elliot > Mignolet/ Robles

    Sanchez Payet Coutinho Milner Bolasie

i mean for example im not going to pick martial because he has dgw vs palace/villa. man utd are horrible in the final 3rd so hes more likely not to score . thats what I meant btw.I sounded so silly saying "fxck fixtures" 🙂

Be careful with Barkley, if anything maybe go with Deu or Lennon. Barkley has dropped deeper.

    Cech / Robles
    Smalling / Gabby / Sakho / Clichy / Simpson
    Payet / Sanchez / Coutinho / KdB / Bolasie(to Milner in 34)
    Kun / Lukaku / Mitrovic

0.5itb intending to spend on Milner

Mitrovic is my biggest worry, along with possible rotation for Gabs/Sakho/Clichy. Considering Dropping Bolasie to Lennon and using the 0.9 to upgrade someone, or possibly shoehorn in Martial.

    Lets try this out!

This is a temporary WC team, since i am debating of Dropping Kane still but it seems very hard to do.

    Robles / Mignolet
    Bellerin / Smalling / Gabriel / Simpson / DELANEY?
    Sanchez / Mahrez / Bolasie / Payet / Coutinho
    Kane / Kun / Lukaku

So the questions here are this - Keep Mahrez or not. Keep Kane or not. Who to bring in for Delaney if anyone?!

There was a hilarious moment in the derby where the referee gave a baffling free kick to Sunderland. Mitrovic, already on a yellow, went to charge at the referee screaming his face off, then instantly remembered he could get sent off and calmed himself down.

As a 'veteran' of the game (in my 8th season), I'm ashamed to say a bit of a noob question here guys, but my ML opponent has made 5 transfers.

Previous seasons, you would be able to see 'WILDCARD ACTIVATED' but now I can't locate that info.

He made 2 last week, so do I assume he has taken a 16 point hit. or has he used his WC?

    Robles//Darlow
    Bellerin//Darmian//Clyne//Gabriel//Ward//
    Sanchez//Payet//Coutinho//Mahrez//Lanzini
    Aguero//Kane//Lukaku
    0.0 ITB

-After watching Utd last night, I think Darmian has pretty much cemented his place over the coming weeks. Good performance, coming after an international appearance, and can play LB or RB. A good option IMO

-Can't bring myself to lose Kane or Mahrez, and with a couple of punts offers me some insurance against non-WCers. Also both have a good game in GW 35 which sways me a bit

-Sanchez definitely won the battle against Ozil for me and double Arsenal defence looks a good bet unless I go with Gabriel over Lanzini.

-Currently 3 DGW 33 players, 13 DGW 34 players and an easy 11 for GW 35 if I can save the 2 FTs

    Thoughts?

    Robles, Mignolet
    Sakho, Bellerin, Dawson, Morgan, Rose
    Coutinho, Payet, KDB, Ozil, Lennon
    Aguero, Lukaku, Rashford

current thoughts, I could swap Ozil + Bellerin to Sanchez and Gabriel.....I quite like this option
rashford minutes? might not be worth it, but the price and potential is tempting me.
Lennon might not seem sensible, but hes cheap and plays for everton 🙂

    Here's mine:

    Robles / Rudd
    Gabriel / Bellerin / Janmaat / Dann / Sakho
    Bolasie / Sanchez / Payet / Barkley / Coutinho
    Lukaku / Aguero / Wickham

Going for the 6 DGWs for GW33 and 15 DGWs for GW34. No hits planned, although slightly concerned about Wickham.

    GW34 - Bolasie -> Liverpool Mid
    GW35 - Dann -> Azpilictueta, Wickham -> Defoe, 11 starters.

Thinking of TC'ing Kaku this week (33) or even AOA with Dann and Bellerin only. Thoughts?
