Scout Notes – Gameweek 32 – Sunday

Wes Morgan grabs the only goal of the match as Leicester take a step nearer to the title with a fourth successive 1-0 win. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial leaps onto our double Gameweek radars by firing United to victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

Morgan wins it for Foxes

Leicester City stretched out their lead at the top to seven points by way of their fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Wes Morgan did the damage for the hosts with his first goal of the campaign, latching onto Christian Fuchs’ cross. The latter now boasts four assists and has amassed the second-most bonus points (21) of any defender on the Fantasy market.

Although the Foxes lack a double Gameweek, they have now recorded shut-outs in seven of their previous eight home ties and remain at the King Power Stadium for two of the next three Gameweeks, encouraging investors in their defence to hold tight.

In the wake of his blank against Saints, Jamie Vardy has now failed to net in six successive starts, which will prompt a portion of his 54% ownership reinvest their funds in Romelu Lukaku before Everton’s back-to-back double Gameweeks.

As for Riyad Mahrez, his explosive potential (11 double-figure hauls) should deter many owners from maxing out on double Gameweek players.

Saints struggle on the road again

Southampton were stifled by the Foxes’ regimented defence and were only able to muster two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to score in three of their last five away matches and now hit the road in three of the next five Gameweeks, which includes trips to Everton and Spurs, in addition to a home encounter with Man City. Their lack of a double Gameweek and poor defensive record of late (nine goals conceded and zero clean sheets in six) render their squad a relative non-factor during the final stages of the season.

Martials notches United’s winner

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth as they carved out a third 1-0 victory in four outings.

Anthony Martial proved to be the difference between the two sides, bagging his third goal (Timothy Fosu-Mensah assist) in seven starts. Given that Wayne Rooney’s imminent return makes Marcus Rashford a rotation risk, the 7.6-priced Martial represents the choice route into the Red Devils’ attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY).

Man United’s tenth home clean sheet of the campaign underlined the merits of targeting their defence during the double. On that note, both Daley Blind (fatigue) and Marco Rojo (jet-lag) were subbed off at Old Trafford, highlighting the fact that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the safest options for Gameweek 33 wildcarders.

Out-of-sorts Toffees fail to impress

Everton suffered their third straight defeat and have now tasted victory just once since Gameweek 26.

Romelu Lukaku had an afternoon to forget against Louis van Gaal’s charges, mustering a solitary off-target attempt. Nonetheless, the Belgian marksman is sure to be one of the most popular pick-ups ahead of the Toffees’ aforementioned successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat &cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) – indeed, he already ranks top for “transfers in” (62,000) at the time of writing.

For those eyeing up the Toffees midfielders, Aaron Lennon (5.6) was intriguingly handed a central support role behind Lukaku as Gerard Deulofeu started on the right wing. Lennon then switched back to the flank after the young Spaniard was withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Roberto Martinez switched things up at the back, benching Ramiro Funes Mori to facilitate John Stones’ reinstatement in a four-man defence. In terms of tapping into Everton’s backline potential, goalkeeper Joel Robles (4.3) is the standout pick by virtue of his budget price tag, while skipper Phil Jagielka (5.1) – who fired two attempts from inside the box yesterday – seems the safest route into the defence.

I'll be getting 6 games out of them in the next 2 GWs, if I get even two CS I could be looking at 16+ points from that alone due to saves and baps. Worth rolling the dice I think, takling into account the rock bottom price.

It's only GKs, it's not as if they have a massive points ceiling. Those two play in teams that concede a lot of shots too, so it means if they do scrape a CS, they could be easily looking at a double digit haul too.

STaylor potentially drops as soon as another Newky defender is fit. Colocinni and Dummet close...

Gabriel also a potential risk, although personally I think he will play.

STaylor might not play both with Collocini returning? Although I don't think many of us are expecting much from Newcastle defensive assets anyway.

Yes. Leicester still playing the same style since the beginning of the season except they're more defensively astute now. The counter attacking style means Mahrez can still explode at any time. That and I have him since GW1@5.5

Money and no gwk 35 fixture are currently my stumbling blocks to getting Martial. Mitrovic offers explosive potential. He plays in a bad side, but arguably so does Martial.

At least with Newcastle they only have one tactic - fire the ball at Mitrovic's head. ManU's tactic is to try and muster one shot all game and hope it goes in.

Mitrovic is the maverick punt for those short on cash
Martial the dullard pick for those with lots of cash.

Cost not a problem. Problem is 10 players in 35 or a -4. Probably worth the -4.

        This for me.

I want Martial but however I look at it, it involves adding either a -4 or a -8 to my GW35 team. I'm happy enough with a -4 but it means keeping Mahrez and still having Lanzini instead of Payet.

          +1

Mitrovic solves so many problems in 35 and has CP/villa to follow.

Easy enough to shift Smalling in 35, but owning Bolasie as well means that's where the 2nd FT is going.

          This for example:

          Reid, Mahrez, Martial
          vs
Smalling, Bolasie (Milner in 34), Mitrovic

I think in isolation Martial is better than Mitrovic but have to take everything else into account.

I can afford both Smalling AND Martial. Will cost me -4 though in 35. Might be worth it especially if you bring someone like Defoe who has a DGW 37.

You expect ManU - Villa to be low scoring? Palace could be tighter one.

Was set to bring Mitro and pretty much my every wildcard draft ends up having him but just can't help thinking if ManU vs Villa/Palace are going to be cricket scores.

I think the ManU cricket score days are long gone. ManU are a truly appallig attacking outfit under LVG...but if they are going to muster a shot Martial is likely to be behind it.

Scout Picks Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 33

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 2pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.
In addition, from this week FantasyBet (https://www.fantasybet.com/) are offering Community Champions the chance to win free entry into their £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22 by taking on our Scout Picks in a specially set up game.

The eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55. This is an extra offer that is available to any community champion who is 18 or over and not based in the US.

Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

    Triple Captain:

    GW33: Lukaku (Wat, Cry)

GW34: Martial (Villa, Cry), Aguero (New, Swa), Sanchez (Cry, West Br)

GW37: Payet (Swa, M Utd), Costa (Sun, Liv)

For me it has to be between Lukaku in 33 or Aguero in 34 - what are people doing with their TC's?

Mangala starting depends on Kompany's return, Cllichy depends on Pellegrini's ideas. It's all about when Kompany's coming back really, how many games Clichy will get is impossible to predict.

If I go with Lennon, I have only 8.8 left for two defenders. Already have Simpson and three Arsenal players, so no Gabriel.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. 9 to play in GW35 with two free transfers:

    Robles
    Huth, Bellerin, Delaney
    Mahrez, Sanchez, Bolasie, Coutinho, Payet
    Aguero, Lukaku

    Cech, Sakho, Smalling Mitrovic

No bench boost chip left, so I will be playing triple captain next week.

I have 1.1 million to play with. I could either:

    A) upgrade Huth and Sakho --> Fuchs and Clyne
    B) save it for an upgrade later in GW35

    Thoughts?
