Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 39

Next up this Thursday evening, we take our usual look at the Sky Sports game. As always, we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 38 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

Aston Villa vs SouthamptonDusan Tadic

Gameweek 38 Bonus Points

Two goalkeepers picked up bonus this week – former Sky favourites Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone were the men in question. with the latter making six saves and keeping a clean sheet to earn a tasty nine points. With 14 points earned in just 16 outings, the Italian is hot the heels of the leading three keepers Petr Cech, Jack Butland and Heurelho Gomes, who all have 16 points apiece.

In defence, ten players grabbed bonus; six for tackles and five for completed passes. Swansea full-back Angel Rangel was the man to grab both despite his side losing by four goals. Simon Francis is the top scoring defender in terms of bonus with 28 points – nearly the equivalent of six clean sheets.

In midfield there were nine beneficiaries in total: two for tackling and seven for passes. As usual, Cesc Fabregas was one of those and his total of 62 bonus points means he is the fourth highest scoring midfielder in the game, despite registering just four goals all season.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
Not a great week but decent enough, with captain Sergio Aguero earning me 14 points, whilst Joe Hart and Riyad Mahrez chipped in with seven points apiece.

I transferred out Craig Dawson for Kyle Walker on Monday night, which backfired instantly as Dawson’s leveller at the Lane cancelled out Tottenham’s clean sheet. Dele Alli is now out for the season after being handed a three-match ban for violent conduct earlier today, though I may just leave him in and focus my transfers on extra captains – one trade this week would allow me to have three armbands and opt for Chelsea coverage for Monday’s match with Spurs.

Captain Plan
I’m locked into Alexis Sanchez as my skipper for Saturday’s home match against Norwich – given the Chilean’s recent good form, I’m hopeful of some decent returns for this clash.

It’s no surprise that a switch to Sergio Aguero is on the cards for Sunday as Man City travel to St Mary’s and given that the Saints leaked two goals against Aston Villa last week I’m again hopeful this will bear fruit.

For Monday, I’ll be transferring out Aguero for a Chelsea asset as they square up to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. As alluded to above, this works out well as Guus Hiddink’s side play in Matchday one away to Sunderland in Gameweek 40 and helps to give me three skippers for this week.

I’m still not certain on my likely Chelsea target, though Diego Costa, Eden Hazard or Cesc Fabregas look the best options, with the Belgian currently the front runner on the back of his brace at Bournemouth.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and are sitting in first place in the rankings at present. Do you really think a defense featuring Moreno and Toure is going to keep Villareal out?

The handling of the olympic stadium has been a joke since before ground was even broken in 2007, with the biggest kicker being the initial decision not to include retractable seating like the Stade de France because it wasn't just going to become a football stadium. Since the Olympics we've then had all this refurbishment because of failure to plan by LOCOG and now to save face the OPLC/LLDC are giving West Ham anchor tenancy on the cheap. Yes the Hammers were the highest bidder but its way under the costs of the project and the LLDC are too scared to play hard ball in case they have a white elephant on their hands.

We did not get the tenancy on the cheap, and we are receiving no public subsidy. Quite the contrary.

If you have a problem, go and address it to Daniel Levy.

                        Or Barry Hearn.

But do not indulge yourself in this silly speculation.

£438m initial cost + £272m conversion costs. ~£700m total cost to taxpayer.

£15m up front + £2.5m rent annually (to be halved if West Ham get relegated!!). ~ 40% of the construction cost recouped. But then lets not forget West Ham are getting the matchday services for free(!).

Yes there was a month's worth of value from the Olympic games and some future athletics events but this whole thing has been a net loss for the taxpayer.

As a Londoner, no I will not address my anger at Levy or Hearn because blame lies at the feet of the OPLC and the LLDC.

Hodgson was not a poor appointment. Rubbing your face with much vigour in the hope your team performs is a viable tactic.
It's called the Aladdin school of management. Right up there with gangham style pressing.

Really stumped as to what to do with my team, so many players that aren't guaranteed to start or at risk of rotation. I'm 14 points clear in my league with £300 riding on it so every transfer I make now is vital. Current team looks like this :-

      Hart / Darlow

      Bellerin / Gabriel / Darmian / Simpson / Moreno

      Alli / Sanchez / KDB / Countinho / Lingard

      Kane / Aguero / Mitrovic

Considering an 8 point hit this week to lose Mitrovic , Alli and KDB, what do people think?

Townsend i think. 1 less game. Lots to play for. No rotation risk.

Also, one of those games is against Villa

Thanks Luke, very useful article as always. I've got to say though I disagree with holding onto Alli, he needs to go sharpish when there's a handful of good options with 4 games left.

This. Would hate the idea of Alli (even at just 4m) stinking up the midfield for the rest of the season.

I've got a few extra transfers over the average so he's probably gone for Rashford for me.

I'm already 3 up front but I think I might have the cash for Fabregas, will have to double check though. I've had a ton of cash floating about this year, often fielding a team between 68 and 71m .

With only 2 swaps and two extra captain because of them im hoping two goals doubled (20 points) is what im aiming for an any mid i can afford in that range is unlikely to get that. I could get less yes but i could also get lucky and get way more

        Sky is different. Example:

You have a captain on Saturday, then use your weekly captain swap to someone else on Sunday. You can get another captain on Monday if you transfer out your captain for another.

If you have 3-4-3 you can take a fw out for a mid and go 3-5-2.

        8 years, 1 day ago

        343 -> 352

captain switch on Saturday night to have a second captain on Sunday, then sell the Sunday captain for a Monday player to get a captain on Monday too.

      A. Rashford (not sold on martial)
      B. Deeney/Iggy
      C. Lukaku
      For 36 to 38.

oooo good point, ive been saying i think leicester will win it at old trafford so maybe its not a good idea to captain kane but he seems like an honest player regardless of what theyre playing for.

aguero is not an option as i dont see him playing 90 mins.

              sturridge maybe?

              arghh now im asking questions

Though United are the last team Leicester face with something still to play for. They desperately need the points to keep the pressure on for a CL spot. Could be a very tight game.

He is an honest player. Might be slightly deflating though for Spurs right? Wouldn't help anyway.

I personally don't think Leicester win at OT, but it could of course happen and you have to select a captain before we know so it is worth factoring in.

Leicester have not done anything to indicate that they cant win at OT. All season i kept writing them off. I stopped a long time ago, trust me they'll do it. If all u have to do is win a football game in 90 minutes to become prem champions. It doesnt matter who is front of you. Best team in the land and im done picking against them cos they prove me wrong every single time

Quick one before the game starts
      A. Mitrovic -> Defoe. Play Lanzini
      B. Mitrovic -> Sturridge , KDB -> Townsend(-4). Bench Lanzini.

Think people are getting far too excited about Sturridge and all because he's been dropped. Yes he will probably start at Swansea but then he could also start at home to Villareal thus effectively making him a single gameweeker

This is true. But Swansea are so SO bad, he could go big this week and could well play a part in both games 37, even if only starting one.

The upside probably justifies investment (for me anyway).
