The Weekly Shop – Gameweek 37

We bring the curtain down on Wednesday with a visit to the Weekly Shop, as we analyse the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, we divide the player analysis into two parts: I’ll assess the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Manchester United travel to a Norwich side that have failed to net in three straight matches. David De Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $4,200) has five clean sheets in eight outings and should do well at Carrow Road, though a trip to West Ham on Tuesday poses more of a problem – given that the Hammers have scored at least twice in their last seven, the Spaniard’s shot-stopping abilities will be called into action, meaning save points are likely to be on the cards.

Slaven Bilic’s side may be scoring for fun but a shut-out at the Hawthorns was their first in seven attempts. Visitors Swansea have blanked in back-to-back matches on the road and provide the Hammers a chance to record a twelfth clean sheet of the campaign, while United have scored only once in their last three away trips. Aaron Cresswell (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $4,100) is our pick from Slaven Bilic’s defence, with the raiding left-back producing a goal and assist over his last four appearances.

It’s been a remarkably underwhelming season for Eden Hazard (FantasyBet 10.5m, Draftkings $5,500), who has finally shown glimpses of last year’s form by netting three goals in his last two run-outs. The Belgian’s six goal attempts over those last two ties is more than the midfielder recorded over his previous 12 league appearances, suggesting a recent stint on the sidelines appears to have revitalised him ahead of trips to Sunderland and Liverpool.

We turn to West Ham once again, with their pair of home ties and prolific scoring record making Dimitri Payet (FantasyBet 7.5m, Draftkings $8,400) and Andy Carroll (FantasyBet 6m, Draftkings $5,200) prime candidates for our squads. Payet continues to be the main source of creativity for the Hammers, recording an eleventh assist of the term in the 3-0 win at West Brom, while Carroll also turned provider against the Baggies and has struck six goals in as many league outings.

Jurgen Klopp has preferred to utilise Daniel Sturridge (FantasyBet 10m) in the league while resting the striker in Europe. Thursday night should reveal more about the German manager’s plans but having started six of the last seven league matches, the Reds frontman could be worth investment, having netted five goals over that period.

Poundstretchers

Sunderland have been building a case for survival having lost only one match in eight, whilst three clean sheets in five highlights their late-season resilience. Victor Mannone (FantasyBet 4m, Draftkings $3,500) has made 19 saves over four matches and should be busy again with Chelsea and Everton both visiting the Stadium of Light over the next week.

Bournemouth may only have one match this Gameweek but a home tie against a West Brom side that have scored only twice in seven looks promising in the last home fixture of their debut top-flight season. Charlie Daniels (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,900) remains our choice route into Eddie Howe’s rearguard, whilst further up the field, Matt Ritchie (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $6,400) and Josh King (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings Forward $4,400) look to be the Cherries attacking assets to select.

Andros Townsend (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $6,600) continued his fine recent form by netting Newcastle’s crucial winner against Crystal Palace last time out. It’s three goals and two assists in six matches now for the winger and a trip to Aston Villa affords Rafa Benitez’ side to strengthen their case for survival.

Another former Tottenham player is our pick of the budget forwards. A fourteenth goal of the season at Stoke re-affirms Jermain Defoe’s (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $5,300) credentials for the two upcoming home ties. The Black Cats frontman has scored the majority of his goals away from the Stadium of Light but, having had 13 attempts in the box over the last four (second only to Carroll) he will be Sunderland’s main threat for must-win matches with Chelsea and Everton.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups. On Friday, I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Already on a -4, would you bring any midfielder for an additional 4 point hit to bench Sanchez(mci)?
    If so, who?

No, Man City have completely capitulated to too many above average sides for me to put Sanchez on the bench.

Liverpool Strategy, assuming no budget or position restraints.

    Who would you get?

    B) If they dont

i dont really think it will matter who gets minutes if they dont have the cup run to focus on. Klopps been resting players for eufa not for the premiership. if theyre out no need to rest.

      Its really hard to tell

      A) None - Ive got Clyne and Milner, it is what it is if they dont start

      B) Still none, But ill be much happier owning those two above

I would stay clear, too much rotation and Chelsea could turn up against them.

If they go out, I might opt for Firmino... Klopp seems to like him and could start up top in place of Sturridge

i like Fermino and sturridge; very capable of getting points, good differentials in the top 50k, still with something to play for and two good games plus a bonus game against chelsea.

    Robles
    Smalling Cresswell PvA Clyne
    Milner Payet(VC) Sanchez
    Aguero Carroll(C) Lukaku

    Darlow... Mahrez Iwobi Bellerin

I'm starting Darlow instead of Robles though a bit agnostic on which is the best option.

Not sure on 4 defenders, but I guess you go with the DGWers you have

I'd consider playing Mahrez for the victory party against woeful Everton's defense.

      Reasonable .

Ahh im in the same situation, Have both the same keepers but very undecided on who to start.
Leaning Robles simply because 2 games is better chance than 1.. all it takes is one mistake vs villa and they could ruin a perfectly easy CS

Thinking of these, which is best

    A) Rose, KDB, Kane ---> Cresswell, Hazard, Defoe (-12)
    B) Rose, KDB ---> Cresswell & Fabregas (-8)

    Morning DZ,

In serious danger of losing my ML for the first time ever - any pearls of wisdom here?

    - 38 points behind
    - I have TC chip left, he has no chips left

    My team (differentials in CAPS):

    Robles
    BELLERIN, CRESSWELL, SIMPSON
    Sanchez, KDB, COUTINHO, LANZINI
    Aguero, Kane, CARROLL

    Darlow, ALLI, GABRIEL, FOSU
    Bank 1.2m, 1FT

    His team (pre hits):

    Robles
    KOS, MORENO, PVA
    Sanchez, PAYET, FIRMINO, MAHREZ
    Aguero, Kane, DEFOE

    Darlow, SAKHO, DELANEY, OZIL
    Bank 0.2m, 2FT

Clearly I need differentials and must TC a player he doesn't have. My bench is super weak also so need to bear that in mind, and also try to avoid too many hits.

    Thanks in advance!

Open to ideas. I think they will both play and are still good options (golden boot and still fighting for league position) so reluctant to lose them, especially when the alternatives aren't that appealing:

        Lukaku - out of form
Sturridge - rotation risk, especially if they go through tonight
Deeney - 2 away games, WAT nothing to play for
        Defoe - rival has him

Agreed. I guess a lot will depend on the Europa League SF tomorrow morning. Knocked-out - we'll be falling over ourselves to get those Liverpool assets in. Qualify - avoid at all costs!
I like Sturridge should Liverpool be knocked out.

Out of the options that you've outlined above, I think the -4pts to bring in Valencia/Hazard could be well worth it!
          Or, perhaps, Alli > Willian?

That team is atrocious, a clear example of a GW34 wildcard mess.

I'd say that you must start with the best TC candidate, Hazard. He must come in, that means for KDB. Cost 0.5.

Next step would be a DGW defender for F-M, otherwise you must play Bellerin @ City. Gabriel is worth keeping in view of GW38. So maybe Martin (Norwich) or Kirchhoff. Cost 0.3/0.4.

Last step, get a 'true' DGW midfielder, either by replacing Coutinho or Alli. Coutinho may play GW38, Alli certainly won't. So maybe Redmond (if you are willing to take a punt on Neil selecting him twice) or Brady for Alli. Saving c. 0.6/1.0. I prefer the Redmond punt myself, I think there's a lot of upside to go with the selection risk.

As a final alternative, replacing Coutinho instead of Alli with Redmond/Brady probably allows Smalling instead of Martin to replace F-M. That's worth considering too.

I don't see you getting away with less than a -8.

Yep, a complete disaster of a WC. Pretty much every gamble failed.

I'm not sure I agree with ditching KDB and Cout for a -8, bearing in mind they are both explosive differentials to my rival and I have 38 points to make up. KDB will play both games now, imo and if LIV go out tonight then so will Cout.

I do like Hazard though. To maximise differentials and avoid too many hits, I'm thinking Alli -> Milner and benching Sanchez (if LIV go out tonight), and perhaps KDB -> Hazard for a -4.

Let's call the above A. Other options I'm looking at are:

          B) Fosu & Sanchez -> Rojo & Hazard (-4). Looks decent for the DGW and a decent MUN defender for 38. Hazard/KDB -> Sanchez in 38.

          C) Fosu & Alli -> Martin & Milner (-4). Less explosive but saves a transfer on B in 38

Mine was almost as bad. The problem is that the 2nd wildcard/BB combo is a strategic mistake but I (we?) only realised that when I had reached the point of no return.

To my mind the extra hit for Martin/Kirchhoff will more than pay for itself. I'd be surprised if Norwich 1 CS in 2 games whilst Arsenal are unlikely to at City. If you are chasing it seems a no-brainer to me.

    Hi DZ,
This hasn't been mentioned very often, but is Costa not a worthy TC option this week? If you're feeling a punt, would he not be one of the better high-risk high-reward options?
    Cheers!

1 assist in his last 3 since returning from injury. I would probably prefer to stick with Kane/Aguero or even punt on Sturridge ahead of Costa.

Sure but I mean I don't think anyone expects anyone to return from injury and go bang. An assist last week was certainly a positive sign, but I am worried about his lack of shots. Do you know if there is a reason why he isn't really taking more than 2 attempts per game (structurally, tactics etc)? Or just as you said, out of form? Thanks mate

Not sure why he's been down on form - it has been that kind of season for him, I guess.

The underlying stats for Chelsea MIDs - namely Hazard & Willian are much better than Costa's. Prefer to invest in one of them, if I was after Chelsea selections for the DGW

For the first time in 6-8 years I'm really not that fussed about this season coming to a close. Expectations are low to get any green arrows from here and all in all I think a top 50K finish is about fair (although certainly not representative of the time and energy put into trades this year - I'd be top 10 if that was the case).

Triple Captain chip to use and if that goes well then hurray, but I'm expecting little. Anyone else feeling flat?

        Darlow (Robles)
Martin PVA Cresswell (Smalling 1st sub, Bellerin)
        Brady Payet Antonio Firmino (Sanchez)
        Naismith Sturridge Defoe-TC

Norwich beat ManU at Old Trafford (1-2)

ManU are #2 in home standings, #11 in away standings

Norwich beat Watford twice by 3-nil both times last season

Norwich did lose to Watford 2-nil this season

        Watford are playing for nothing

Naismith although supremely punty returns to Goodison for the first time since January transfer out in week 38

Brady was a regular feature in Jonty's explosion imminent table until this week when he fell out

        Martin can score

ML is won and trying to surge my OR... no one will remotely consider even doubling up on Norwich despite two home matches with staying up on the line... I think Alex Neil can better Sam Allardyce in a match of wits (and have long assumed Newcastle's chances are thin with only 2 matches left vs. the others with 3)

        That's my thesis.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 23 hours ago

Well, I don't know about all of that but I do think Norwich have as good a chance of getting out as the others. Their defence is much improved. Brady is a very good pick with set pieces and all. Ruddy/Martin/Olsson are also good, I'd like one of them. Naismith is a real punt, I'd prefer Deeney at the price.

But Redmond is actually the one that most interests me. He was very good at the end of last season and he looks the most likely to rescue them now. My only doubt is whether Neil sees it that way and will start him twice in the DGW.

bringing in an Arsenal mid and might consider Walcott over Ozil but don't think he'll do the business two season in a row... so probably Ozil
