Wood Clinches Sky Sports Title

Having revealed that one of the Fantasy Football Scout league, Dimitri Nicolaou, emerged triumphant in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), we can also confirm that Alan Wood was the runaway winner in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game.

Alan has led from the front for a number of months now and finally sealed his place at the summit, with his team “Atum Forest FC” clinching an astonishing 106-point advantage over his nearest challenger in second spot. Congratulations to Alan, who earns a handy £20,000 for his endeavours in 2015/16.

Fantasy Football Scout supplied three of the top six managers in the Sky Sports game. Jonathan Bancroft took third spot, just five points shy of second, and resultantly earns £1,000. Dexter Hayes, meanwhile, sat in sixth on 2429 points – just nine points behind Jonathan.

In the FFScout league, Trevor Fricker (13th overall) and Barry Grimes (14th) helped complete the top five. Thanks to the endeavours, we successfully defended our crown in the “League of Leagues”, which comes with a £2,000 prize – the top five managers in the Fantasy Football Scout table will each receive £400 as a reward.

Look out for an interview with Alan over the next few days as he discusses his successful campaign.

Sturridge demonstrated last night why he shouldn't start for England and isn't good enough to play for a top team.

He scored a magnificent goal. But in the 2nd half he went missing, pulled out of challenges, failed to hold the ball up and gave his team nothing when it needed him.

He's one of those players who looks great when allowed to play on his terms but has no stomach for a contest. I saw this when he was at Chelsea and nothing has changed. He's talented but give me Andy Carroll any day.

totally agree. He's also exceptionally selfish, it's all about him, as recently shown with him trying to claim that Coutinho goal. You might say this is a good trait for a striker, but for me it's better to be a team player, like Suarez is.

I think I'd rather play Vardy and Kane ahead of Sturridge but Andy Carroll? Definitely not.

That isn't Sturridge's game, he doesn't press directly, he cuts off passing lanes and runs through the lines pulling defenders with him. The reason he didn't offer any holdup was our players kept hitting the long ball to him, Migs particularly and his distribution is woeful. He was given nothing by his teammates so why expect a performance when he had nothing to work with?

I think we saw the best and worst of him within a few minutes. His goal was sublime, nothing more to say. Then when Lovren wins a header, directs it for bottom corner and Sturridge is standing offside, he has to try and score it. Couldn't just let it go in (he never does) and costs the team a good goal that could have really hit Sevilla hard.

Anyone planning to go with a 5-2-3 formation like me in Euro16?

    Draft:

    Patricio
    Boateng - Hector - Alba - Carvalho - Varane
    Pogba - Stanciu
    Griezmann - Muller - Ronaldo

    Kozacik - fodder - fodder - fodder

A huge gamble I know with not being able to sub out players and only fodders with play with. But huge rewards also, no?

Using the bench could mean a big point swing if you keep your team well rounded. International fantasy springs up more differentials than people think. There will be a James R of this tournament and we should try our best to get him in our first draft. More good players you choose, the more chance you have of hitting the jackpot. Fantasy players underestimate the amount of unpredictability in the game.

One of my first drafts for Euro Fantasy. What do y'all think?

    DDG
    Pepe - Hector - Koscielny
    Alaba - Dzsudzsak - Hazard - Perisic
    Griezmann - Muller - Embolo

    Kozacik - Alli - Dier - Denayer

I'm also considering De Gea but I worry about the pressure on Spain to perform and subsequent clean sheets. Perisic is a great differential and player.

Depends on how Spain perform internationally though. LVG plays an incredibly boring possession game which favours defence. Spain feel they have to prove themselves after poor poerformances and will attack more. De Gea will face more shots and have less chance of cleans sheets. If you go for a keeper of his price it has to be bulletproof and Spain just don't inspire confidence in me. No doubt he is the best keeper in the prem though. An incredible talent.

Refereeing was disgustingly woeful. But in the end there were no excuses for the lack of fight in the second half, tactically they outdid us and the game was over before Klopp could change it (I'm not blindly defending here, not bringing on Hendo at 1-1 was a mistake, and this was exactly like the Southampton game in which not bringing on another mid hurt us badly).

Some of us* have been wondering about the contradictory rules in the official Euros game. The Rules section states that all your points for a matchday will be scored by your starting XI, whereas the How To Play section implies a stick/twist format.

After some email correspondence with UEFA on this, I can confirm that there is definitely active subs management. Each Matchday consists of a number of Gamedays and you can change your bench and captain between gamedays. i.e. you can drop an underperforming player to your bench and bring on a player who hasn't yet played in the hope that they will do better. Likewise, you can change your captain after each gameday.

In UEFA's words (responding to a detailed scenario that I laid out):
"Like you said, on Gameday 2 after the French player has played but before the Turkish player has played, you CAN put the French player on bench and bring in the Turkish player instead of him, also make him your captain.

Substitutions and Changing captains can take place between Gamedays."

*I know that almost everyone here had just assumed that this was the case but a few pedantic hand-wringers like myself were worried about the exact wording on the game's website.

They didn't specifically say you'd lose any points you put on the bench but I don't think it would make any sense if you didn't. That would just mean you had a 15-man team and the bench would be meaningless.

If I'm not mistaken this is the 3rd time FIFA used McDonald platform for their official fantasy site, but it's looks like McDonald team are still not sure about their 'own stamp' of format and fantasy rules.

They keep changing it every tournament. A bit disappointing.

IIRC, there was some issue when you change the formation between a match, they automatically kicked the farthest right player from your lineup.

Last tournament "recoveries points' was a bit of fresh air, personally think they should stick with it. Make DM players actually valuable to fantasy game.

Agree with everything you say. I think it's weird to have active subs with such a small squad. Having a big squad with active subs helps keep diversity in a short tournament. Gives more degrees of freedom with your decisions.

Luckily, they do seem to have learned from their World Cup mistake. It seems you can swap players in different positions directly and the formation updates automatically. Phew.

Two decent front line keepers seems sensible.

Formation also important, may want to bulk up on either defence or mids to allow for more options for inter-game rotation

Yep, and pay attention to gamedays. No point having two keepers who play on the same gameday, for example. And ideally, you want captaincy options for 3 different gamedays.

Is this still correct ? No changes to this understanding ? Setting up these options will be crucial to be able to sub out blanking players

I am a noob to this format so please bear with me.
What all this means is that basically there are three GWs corresponding to the the rounds before the knockout phase?
And all this bench-manoeuvring takes place 'within' a GW(one FULL round where each tab plays once)?

Nah, not allowed in my country 🙁
But I would love that format! Love to be hands-on and be required to make as many changes as possible. The more complex the better!
Cheers for clarifying, will make a squad with these matchday-concept in mind.

Yep. They call a Gameweek a 'Matchday'. Each Matchday consists of several Gamedays.

For example, Matchday 1 is the first round of group games and consists of five Gamedays (June 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th & 14th).

        Gameday 1: France Vs Romania
Gameday 2: Albania Vs Switzerland, Wales Vs Slovakia, England Vs Russia
Gameday 3: Turkey Vs Croatia, Poland Vs Northern Ireland, Germany Vs Ukraine
        ...
        ...

You can make changes to your team between Gamedays, but not within a Gameday. So you start with a french player in your team and if he doesn't do well, you put him on your bench (and lose any points he got) and play a swiss player off your bench. What you can't do is then bench the Swiss player for a Russian player because they play on the same Gameday.

What that means for your squad selection is that you want to have as many options from different Gamedays as possible. Make sure you have two goalkeepers who play on different Gamedays, so that you can swap them if the first one fails. And try to make sure you have a good captain for as many Gamedays as possible, so that you get lots of chances at a good captain score.

Thanks Roscola. That clarifies a lot.
So, for the 2nd round of group matches (Matchday2) we decide our XI again and make the bench-maneouvres again within the different gamedays of the matchday2.

Hi guys, sorry re-posted from old post 🙂

Not been on here much lately but I wondered if I could get an RMT for my Euro team while it is quiet? As I know zilch about Euro football leagues, I have picked up ideas from different posts on here and have come up with the following:

    Rui Patricio
    Boateng, Koscielny, Vrsaljko
    Alli, Martial, Weiss, Ozil
    Lewandowski, Muller, Janko

Subs: Almer, Rafa Silva, Dier, Rapael Guerriero

    many thanks

Catmac! Wow, great to see you around! 😀

I'm afraid I can't be of any use as I've paid no attention to the Euro game yet, seeing your grav made me smile though 🙂

        Hi Windy

I normally lurk these days as I find the posts go too fast for me - showing my age :). At the mo it's nice and quiet.

Still havent got round to changing my grav 🙂

Nice to see you btw. How did you do in FPL?

I do a lot of lurking myself - I have very little to say that isn't said better and earlier by other posters 🙂

I did relatively well in FPL - finished with a few red arrows (as I always seem to) but a top 2k rank is not to be sniffed at, how about yourself? Life treating you well?

Yes, life is good. FPL not so much. Finished 26k this year and 2nd in my ML :(. Played too cautiously and didnt jump on bandwagons fast enough.

2k rank is excellent in my book 🙂

Better to have FPL disappoint rather than life 🙂 The bandwagons almost all seemed to keep rolling for long periods this season (Mahrez, Vardy, Ighalo, Alli...) Another season you'd have been sitting pretty, always hard to know which ones to hop on and which to ignore.

Thanks, I'm happy with it really, I just always see the missed opportunities rather than let myself be content with what I achieved - personality defect I'm afraid 🙂

I think we all rue missed opportunities 😉

        Hi Doos

And how are you? Not familiar with Schar, not seen him mentioned before. Perisic was on my list but couldnt fit him in 🙂

Very attacking defender for Switzerland. Shaqiri on corners.

Not too bad. Nearly at the end of of all my operations. 🙂

Hmmm...he's 5.5 so I cant afford him without some tweaking but I will keep him in mind.

Great to hear, you must be glad to have the end in sight.

    Patricio / Tatarusanu
    Boateng / Koscielny / Smalling / Rose / Eliseu
    KDB / Perisic / Alaba / Zielinski / R. Silva(or 4.5)
    Griezzman / Muller / Milik

Please rate my team. I see Zielinski (5.0) and Milik (7.5) as great punts. Milik in much better form than Lewandowski now.

I like it. Have the same front 3 and almost the same midfield (Alli instead of Zielinski).

Not afraid of his(Alli) game time ?

Have the same front 3, think I would be tempted by Hazard over KDB.

Not sure I'd go for Smalling and Rose

Didn't Iceland absolutely smash their qualifying group? Are they still seen as fodder or are their players valid punts for the fantasy euros?

Not really, they finished second in the end.

everything they do goes through Siggy and he's on every set piece, not many players like that in the Euro game, will def be in my team!
