Euro 2016

Scout Notes – Euro 2016 Friendlies

Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet both find the net as France leave it late to get the better of Cameroon. Elsewhere, an under strength Sweden stutter to a goalless draw against Slovenia in their penultimate friendly before Euro 2016 gets underway a week on Friday.

France 3 Cameroon 2

The hosts took their record to eight wins in nine friendlies with a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Cameroon in Nantes last night.

Blaise Matuidi opened the scoring with his fourth goal in the last nine for Didier Deschamps’ side and is shaping up to be an overlooked differential. Despite bagging a couple of assists during that run, the 7.0-priced midfielder sits in just 5% of sides in the Uefa game.

Paul Pogba showed just why he’s the most popular player in Uefa (42% ownership) with a stunning assist, whilst Kingsley Coman and Dimitri Payet threw their hats into the ring for starting roles on the wings by bagging an assist and goal respectively. Although Payet’s late free-kick winner hogged the headlines, the West Ham playmaker turned in another creative masterclass and also provided eight key passes, suggesting that he could yet oust Anthony Martial in Deschamps’ starting XI.

Olivier Giroud strengthened his claim for the lone striker role by bagging his sixth goal in the last nine friendlies. Owned by just 5%, the Arsenal frontman – costing 8.5 in Uefa – fired his side’s second on 41 minutes before being replaced by rival Andre-Pierre Gignac on 65 minutes.

At the back, Adil Rami was handed the chance to impress alongside Laurent Koscielny as Deschamps mulls over his options in light of Raphael Varane’s injury absence. Yet to be added to the Uefa game, Rami looks set to battle it out with Eliaquim Mangala (5.0) for a place in the first XI, though France’s recent defensive record is hardly encouraging – they have now conceded twice in each of their last four fixtures.

France XI: Lloris; Sagna, Rami, Koscielny, Evra; Diarra (Kante 46), Matuidi, Pogba (Sissoko 65); Coman (Cabaye 76), Giroud (Gignac 65), Payet.

Sweden 0 Slovenia 0

Sweden were without a number of players including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kim Kallstrom, Marcus Berg and Martin Olsson for last night’s goalless draw against Slovenia.

Both sides managed a mere two shots on target apiece, with John Guidetti looking the man most likely for Erik Hamren’s side – partnered by Isaac Thelin up front, he produced three efforts and a couple of key passes over the 90 minutes.

The result means that Sweden have now conceded just twice in their last four fixtures. Fantasy managers looking for a cut-price defender should keep an eye on Viktor Nilsson Lindelof, who seems to have stepped up his case for consideration after previously failing to play any part in the qualifiers. Priced at just 4.0 in the Uefa game, he has now started each of the last three friendlies and could be worth a gamble as a budget enabler if he gets the nod in the final pre-Euros friendly against Wales on Monday.

Sweden XI: Isaksson; Lustig (Jansson 46), Nilsson Lindelof, Granqvist, Durmaz; Larsson, Hiljemark, Wernbloom (Rohden 71), Forsberg (Zengin 46); Guidetti, Thelin.

Let's say, in real life it is only a question of stronger and weaker wills, not free or unfree. 😉

Who cares with free will? The only thing that matters it what you like and doing what you like and love in life, right?!! Regardless of whether what you like/love is pre-determined for you or not....

Now did I write this out of my free will or did I just have to do it? You can't be mad at least even though I'm not Camp no no.... If there's no free will..... 😀

It certainly looked like Uncle Sam doesn't care about my free will.

And then, if I _have_ a free will, is that will actually free, or is it free only if it has a me? Now that's a question! Namely a question I'm not going to think more about now (nor perhaps ever).

First of all, Portugal will play in a 4-4-2 (at least its the Manager plan A)

    Patricio
    Viera/Cedric Pepe Carvalho Eliseu
    Mario William/Danilo Moutinho Gomes
    Nani Ronaldo

Ronaldo played always CF with this new manager.
And Nani plays loose alongside him with license to drop back or wide.
Midfield compose by 2 central midfields - William and Moutinho - and 2 interiors - Mario and Gomes.
On the right of the defensive formation its probably the only real doubt: Vierinha or Cedric. But i think Vierinha has an advantage because him and Eliseu are ex-midfielders that Fernando Santos loves. They can get out wide on the ball because we don't play anymore wit wingers...
Carvalho its ahead of Fonte because he is more adapt to the left side of the central pairing (similar to Koscielny in France).

It's probably just that I've been claiming he might have because of his much better showings in friendlies. But the coach might just as well never mind the friendlies, and I may be following them too much.

        Could be.
But Fernando likes more experience in the team.
        Hence Viereinha and Eliseu.

He recalled Carvalho Tiago and Quaresma.
He loves Quaresma. But i think i will be like a secret weapon to release in the second half.

His Plan B will be something like this (in 4-3-3):

        William - Moutinho
        ------Mario---------
        Nani CR7 Quaresma

    Almer / Sommer

    Juanfran / Mangala / Denayer / Wawrzyniak / Lindelof

    Alaba / Perisic / Koke / Grosicki / Alli

    Griezmann / Bale / Muller

I'm not convinced on Koke yet, waiting for the friendlies. Happy to consider other options up to 7.5

Koke can be replaced by Kroos or Fabregas if needed. Not 100% sure of the value of Griezmann and Bale, considering the first is likely to play from the wing and the second... Well, it's Wales. Mangala, Denayer and the polish fella are doubtful.

    Hi guys,

Not been on much lately, but just trying to get my head around the UEFA game. Just need to double check something about captain changes...

You can change captains if the captain hasn't played yet that day? Not the first game of the day (like with Sky)?

This is the same with substitutions?

Sorry, I know that's really badly worded, but you get what I mean (hopefully)!

You can swap captains each day. So when Griezmann fails I can swap to Bale for day 2... then Muller for day 3.

Subs similar, swap someone out who did rubbish for someone yet to play

Thanks PoD. Yeah, I got that. Was querying the time limit. eg. could I sub, say Bale in, once I've seen the lineups or would it have to be done before the Albania v Switzerland game (first game of the day)?

I'm unsure also, see below mate, haha!

If you select Giroud first game as C and he gets a measly 2, you can change him over to someone else?

If of course he only got an assist, you may stick with it and not gamble for more!

Yes that's right. Just not sure whether changes need to be before first game played of that day, or before that match (so you can see lineups).

So, captain France players first and have Portugal players on your subs bench.

Just remember though, if you do a manual substitution or captain change, the auto subs won't work.

Apologies in advance but a very basic question from me:

Do all players in your team score in the game week if you rotate them based on the timing of the fixtures if they are in your X1? (or is it the same as FPL??).

Everyone on the XI gets points. You can sub between gamedays.

Considering Reus out and the Lindelof bandwagon, Draft 3, No Ronaldo mode:

    Patricio/Sommer
    Bonucci/Juanfran/Rodriguez/Lindelof/Dragovic
    Alaba/KDB/Weiss/Kroos/Grosicki
    Muller/Janko/Giroud

    Main concerns:
    - Lack of a strong captain for groups B (Weiss) and D (Juanfran)
    - KDB money sink. Would gladly switch him for Payet, but then I double up on France attack and lack a good captain on Group E.
    - Doubling on Germany attack, not 100% sure of Kroos. May switch him for Fabregas if nailed.

Just sat thinking at work how difficult next season's FPL's gonna be, Aguero, Alexis, Kane, Vardy, Mahrez, Hazard, Alli, Payet, etc are all going to be £8m plus probably! Roll on the punts for likes of Gray, Fischer, the legendary George Boyd, etc!

I picked Matuidi Alli Ozil but I think Matuidi Ozil Hamsik(if you can afford Siggy you can afford Hamsik) is the way to go

Anyone seeing Draxler on the left? I'd like that the best.

    Thoughts on this? -

    Rui Patricio - Sommer

    Koscielny - Hector - Juanfran - Dragovic - Denayer

Persisic - Alaba - Grosicki - Alli - Rafa Silva

    Ronaldo - Muller - Kane

I'd downgrade Koscielny and upgrade Alli or Grosicki

I'm running a score prediction for the euros - £10 per entry and I’m expecting to get at least a 100 entries. So prize breakdown will be something like this:

    Winner £500
    Second £250
    Third £125
    Fourth £75
    Fifth £40
    Random pick £10 entry back
(on the basis of a hundred entries)

The rules couldn’t be simpler!! Pick a score for each game & you get 3 for correct score or 1 for correct result.

2 stages group & knockout (points combined) so you only need to do the group stages to start off with!! Your entry is only confirmed once payment and scores are submitted.

If interested email me at Nick.Gillett@awac.com & I'll provide you with the account details.

Feel free to pass this on to your friends & family. Thank you for your time!

    Kind Regards,
    Nick
