The Stock Check – Gameweek 6 – Monday

A typically disciplined Burnley performance nullifies Watford’s recent attacking verve and earns a precious three points at Turf Moor. Here’s the Stock Check after Monday brought the curtain down on Gameweek 6.

On the Rise

Tom Heaton
A second clean sheet of the season promoted Heaton back to the top of the FPL keeper rankings on 27 points.

Priced at 4.6, Heaton goes on confirming his value in well-drilled Burnley defence that, at Turf Moor at least, should go on generating shut-outs.

Michael Keane
Arriving in the Premier League with a reputation as a threat from set-pieces, tonight Keane delivered his first Premier League strike.

Five goals during Burnley’s promotion season flagged up his goal threat and saw him claim a 5.0 initial price in the FPL. While that has since fallen to 4.9, we’ll need to see more from Keane to warrant that outlay with Heaton an option in goal.

Steven Defour
If we ever go knocking for a Burnley midfield with 6.0 to spend then Defour will be our go-to option.

Clearly a class act, the Belgian has registered three assists a goal and six bonus points in his Burnley tenure so far. He is, however, still to complete 90 minutes.

In Decline

Jose Holebas
We were grateful to see him fit to claim his starting role at left wing-back but this was not an enjoyable evening for the Greek.

Pinned back in the first-half by a determined Clarets, Holebas was forced into a traditional left-back role with Walter Mazzarri’s tactical changes as the Hornets chased the game.

More significantly, he earned a fourth booking of the season and is now just a single yellow away from a one-match suspension. After suffering defeat in the EFL Cup, they also don’t have the option of allowing him to absorb any suspension outside of Premier League action.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Very little?
On why Roy Hodgson, former England manager, would not be a good public speaker:

“He’d send them all to sleep, Roy. Woy. He hasn’t got the personality for it.”

On where Roy Hodgson went wrong as England manager:

“Players let him down in the end. I think maybe he, he was too indecisive. Cast a bit of an anxiety over to the players maybe. I mean prior to the Iceland game, he won all 10 qualifiers. We'd drawn with Russia, we should have won. We beat Wales, and that was our worst performance. We drew with Slovakia, and we only had to draw with Iceland to get through ... he just collapsed.”

On Gary Neville, former assistant manager England manager, advising Hodgson on the decision to substitute on Marcus Rashford during the match against Iceland in the Euros:

“They were arguing for 10 minutes about bringing him on, him and Gary Neville. So Gary was the wrong influence for him. ----ing tell Gary to sit down and shut up, so you can do what you want. You’re the manager, you do what you want, not what they anyone else”

On the chances of footballers playing for England:

"Can’t play them then. Joe Hart. Jack Wilshere, on the bench for Arsenal. Oxlade-Chamberlain on the bench. You can play them, but they’re not playing for the club. When they’re not playing for the club, they’re just short of match practice.”

      On Wembley Stadium:

“They [the FA] stupidly spent £870 million on Wembley, so they’re still paying that debt off. They completely rebuilt it. If they’d built it anywhere else, it would have cost about £400 million. They completely floored it and then rebuilt the new stadium which is fabulous, but that sort of debt is not really what you want. Most of the money the FA make[s] will go to the interest on the debt.”

On the gambling habits of current or former senior England players:

"[A club owner] bailed [a player] out twice. That’s players for you, dealing with the boredom, see. It were worse in our time … we gambled more in our time than they do now. We played cards, played cards all the way back [from away matches] … you’d do your wages in.”

      On the Football Association:

“They’re all about making money aren’t they? You know the FA’s the richest football association in the world? Well, I shouldn’t say that. They’re not the richest at all. What they do is they have the biggest turnover in the world with £325 million.”

Was all set on it. But after tonight's game little confused. Holebas already on 4 YCs. Still worth getting in? Any other good option in this price range?

    Appreciate your thoughts!

I usually don't like doubling up on players BUT I am going to get rid of Cazorla for Lamella as I have just bought Sanchez. I am also going to sell Antonio as I am worried he will be played RB again.

I had originally planned on bringing in Son as an on-form differential. I am now debating Sterling or Walcott as their fixtures are so appealing compared to Spurs'. I already have Aguero. Thoughts and opinions on a postcard please.

    1. Taffer
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 7 months ago

Walcott is a great transfer out for Cazorla IMO.

Keep Antonio, as West Ham's top goalscorer there is literally no way he is playing RB. They need goals and he's their most in form player.

I am a bellend sorry. I meant Lallana, yes.

This is the problem with Antonio. There are lots of "should play here" "might play here" etc. It is not conducive to picking a team week-in, week-out.

Antonio might end up playing centre forward.
      he is a defensive liability.
As RM/RW he failed to track back for the first goal.
As RB he failed for the third goal.
Seeing that Zaza has been poor so far, it would be an option to play Antonio upfront

      1. The Big Fella
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 7 months ago

I know mate but he might also be shifted back to RB. The problem with West Ham is they spunked all their money on strikers and forwards when what they desperately needed is defence. Even now in the BBC gossip page the other day they were linked to yet another forward (can't remember which now) and I just thought Jesus wept

Play Pickford over Heaton along with playing Capoue for the first time 🙁

Not a good Monday night game

I did the same with my keepers. Really thought Watford would win that game.

Played Foster over Heaton even though I had Evans on too. What I've learned is to never bench Heaton at home

Thoughts on this lot thanks guys, unsure on what to do. Have 1 FT and 0 cash:
    Heaton, Pickford
    Valencia, Williams, Evans, Kelly, Amat
    Hazard, Mane, Antonio, Capoue, Fletcher
    Aguero, Ibra, Lukaku

Hazard stands out as replaceable, the rest looks good. You could downgrade to someone like Sterling or Walcott, or save a week so you can find some money for Sanchez/KDB.

Thanks mate, from what I have heard KDB is out for a while.
Agree I need to find Sanchez (he is killing my side!) and Hazard looks replaceable although they are vs Hull and surely he bounces back.
May save my 1 FT this week then use the 2FT the following.

Or Lallana. I'm really enjoying the 7-9 options this season, I already have Walcott, Sterling and Antonio and I'm eyeing up Lallana as well.

As a Liverpool fan Lallana keeps surprising me, not so much with his performances but his fantasy output.
On the weekend though he was playing very advanced but I wasn't sure if it was just cause they were vs Hull with 10 men.

Yeah I was surprised by how advanced he was too. I looked at his stats last week and plumped for Walcott because they didn't compare particularly favourably, but sometimes the eye test works better than the stats - he really looks in incredible form at the moment. Since the Liverpool points are being shared around so much it makes some sense to go for the cheapest option.

It's a bit silly considering taking out Benteke > Rashford with WHM up after the Everton game isn't it?...Is it?

Still might do. Just seeing the best way to get Ibra or Rashford in....Costa's a no go with 4yc'S now.

Dyche deserves great credit for changing formation to nullify Watford, I didn't know he had it in him. I benched Heaton thinking he was a 4-4-2 or nothing man, expecting Watford's 3-5-2 to be dominant thanks to having a spare man at the back, an extra man in the centre and Deeney/Ighalo 2v2 against Burnley's centre backs. He switched to 4-5-1 and played Vokes on his own, giving them an extra man in midfield and dominance on the flanks, and as a result Watford struggled to create anything of note and only managed 3 shots on target. I've learnt not to doubt Heaton in the future (although Arsenal next week so I'll probably bench again).

He also deserves credit for getting Defour, who is an excellent crosser.

    Current team:

    Pickford
    Walker/Williams/Holebas
    Sanchez/Firmino/Sterling/Capoue
    Aguero/Lukaku/Costa

    Subs: Jaku/Evans/Barry/Amat

Does this look good for a -4?:
    Barry/Costa > Walcott/Rashford
