The Dugout Discussion – Man City vs Southampton

Sunday treats us to just a couple of fixtures, with our attentions first turning to the Etihad as Man City entertain Southampton.

Benched for the last two matches, Sergio Aguero returns to Pep Guardiola’s starting XI as the hosts look for a first win in five.

Having scored in just one of his previous four Premier League appearances, the Argentine’s armband appeal, allied with Guardiola’s recent team sheets, is on the slide – only 14% of voters backed him in this week’s Captain Poll.

With the fixtures set to turn in their favour, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling also have the chance to stake a place in our plans having averaged 7.0 and 5.9 points per match respectively.

Claude Puel’s side have conceded just once in their last four away fixtures in all competitions but are once again without first-choice full-backs Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares, who remain sidelined through injury.

Charlie Austin is the visitors’ chief threat. Having bagged four goals and an assist in the last four Gameweeks, the Saints frontman has been subject to a price hike in each of the previous three.

Terribly frustrating GW with the only goalscorer in my team being McAuley.

    Pickford
    McAuley, Williams, Lovren
    Sterling, Firmino, Son, Walcott
    Kun, Costa, Defoe

Kneejerking towards a -8 or -12 hit for moving out quite a few of them.
    Son+Defoe+Amat+Shaw - > Redmond+Wilson +Bellerin +Holebas

    Suggestions?

        Big hit totally unnecessary.

No need for -12 IMO, maybe just Defoe+Shaw -->Austin+Bell/Kos

Thinking of removing Son for either Redmond or Coutinho. With Kane nearing match-fitness, he is likely to play deeper? Also Sterling is a concern.

Double up on Pool - Cout/Mane or go with Cout/Shaqiri?

Someone in my ML had used the TC on Aguero and just like that I don't feel bad about captaining him anymore.

Triple capping an out of form player v a genuinely good defensive team

        Idiotic

      FPL Form Table, Forwards
      Austin 7.3
      Lukaku 5.8
      Costa 5.5
      Callum Wilson 5.3
      Defoe 4.8
      Vokes 4.3
      Aguero 3.8
      Deeney 3.8
      Bastion 3.5
      Rondon 3.5

Aguero is in awful form for that price, but besides Lukaku and Costa, who else do you want in that spot? Just another 3-5-2 advertisement, nothing to see here unless Ibrahimovic finds form, IMO.

Excatly. No alternative, no need for money as expensive mids aren't performing either. I'll just wait for Aguero to recover form or Kane to return

Agreed, Kane is a big factor. If Aguero still is off when Harry is starting, will be tempting.

Would allow Sanchez, KDB, 2x Liverpool Mids, Costa, Lukaku and one other - either an Austin/Defoe/Deeney in a 3-4-3 or an Arnie/Siggy etc for a 3-5-2.

        Food for thought anyway.

The two best captain options next gameweek are
      1) Zlatan
      2) Lukaku
Make sure you own at least one and you must captain him

        Zlatan? LOL

Lukaku, not with West Ham playing 3421

        Aguero, yes.

        Walcott/Alexis vs Sunderland,Yes.

Arsenal mid or Kun or Liv mid

Clearly no tactical thought put into that. West Brom will set up deep and there'll be little space in the box for Aguero. Presuming iheanacho is on the bench Aguero will be furthest and as i said he'll see little opportunity. Don't you know wba concede only a small amount of goals to strikers?!?!
        Look elsewhere mate

WBA defence seriously overhyped around here.

Couldnt even keep a CS vs Bournemouth, Stoke, Sunderland

And you make capping Aguero sound bad

Not saying they won't lose -perhaps even heavily - to City, but they keep more CSs against tougher opponents. I'm not surprised they conceded to those teams you list - those are just the sort of games they try to attack more in.

For those saying the defense in that formation I posted earlier would suck, I think it's not that bad actually:

      Grant (Pickford)
      Walker Holebas Lovren (Stones, Amat)
      Firmino Walcott Coutinho Sterling (Whelan)
      Aguero Costa Lukaku

Great team. Missing a certain Sanchez though, and with his explosive nature, that could hurt.

It was either him or Costa, and I lean Costa because Walcott is doing a great job.

If you have a well balanced team an explosive sanchez wont do too much damage!
Also sanchez explosion only last about 2 GW's then tapers off so id say thats a decent team.
Id get rid of stones for daniels

Deeney's at home to Hull next, Borat - Austin's at home to to Chelsea. Might as well hang fire for Week 11.

Coutinho for Son though. Snoddy's fixtures are decent.
