Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 11

Our latest captain poll has now launched to assess your thoughts on the optimum armband options for Gameweek 11.

Nine out of ten of those who voted in our last poll for Gameweek 10 dismissed Sergio Aguero (13.0) as a viable captain. With a brace and assist away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, many won’t be making the same mistake this time around.

An Etihad meeting with Middlesbrough is expected to see the Manchester City striker dominate this week’s poll, after he so cruelly punished the 100,000 Fantasy Premier League managers that ditched him in the previous two Gameweeks. Already 50,000 have moved to acquire the Argentine ahead of the weekend.

Aguero’s team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) offers a solid alternative. Back from injury, he supplied the killer pass for City’s fourth goal on Saturday from a cameo role off the bench. That was the 9.0% owned midfielder’s seventh assist of the season, the highest tally of any player so far; he looks set to start against ‘Boro ahead of the international break.

A word of caution, though, as the Teesside team may not be as obliging as West Brom. Aitor Karanka’s troops have conceded just twice and kept two clean sheets over their last four league fixtures – one of them at the Emirates.

Interest in another star of Gameweek 10, Alexis Sanchez (11.4), may be muted this week, with a tough North London derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur beckoning.

Despite the 24.9% owned Chilean’s brace away at Sunderland, Spurs will present a far sterner test. Like ‘Boro, they boast a defence that has conceded just twice in their last four outings.

Another London club provide two options that will surely tempt consideration.

With three goals and an assist over his last trio of matches, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (9.9) looks to be back to his best, flourishing in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. It would be no surprise to see the 19.9% owned Belgian pushing Aguero for top spot this week ahead of Everton’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, his team-mate Diego Costa (10.4) has also proved a revelation, topping the scoring charts with eight goals and providing just two blanks over his ten Gameweeks.

The 38.2% owned Spain international has also crushed the notion he cannot earn bonus points, accruing seven to this point.

Liverpool present a raft of alternative candidates when Watford visit Anfield.

Philippe Coutinho (8.5) brought his season assist tally to five at the weekend and has also found the net on four occasions.

Roberto Firmino (8.6) is just eight FPL points behind him and another Red to offer consistent returns. The “false nine” has delivered attacking returns in three of his last four Gameweeks.

With 34 FPL points across his previous four Anfield matches, Sadio Mane (9.0) is another armband candidate from Liverpool’s fluid attacking midfield. Of the trio, Coutinho is by far the most popular, commanding a 40.9% ownership, more than any other midfielder.

Two south coast teams offer some left-field options thanks to kind match-ups in Gameweek 11.

Hull City showed spirit in the 1-0 defeat to Watford but may struggle to keep Southampton at bay at the KCOM Stadium.

The Saints’ Charlie Austin (6.6) presents a differential option for the trip to Humberside. The 12% owned striker has scored four times since claiming a starting role in Gameweek 5.

With four goals shipped at home to Arsenal on Saturday, Sunderland’s defence remains in an obliging mood.

Their visit to Bournemouth presents Cherries forward Callum Wilson (6.6) with a good opportunity of adding to his three-goal tally, all of which have been scored at the Vitality Stadium.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Have 2FT's and a few problems.

    Cech Pickford
    Walker Williams Lovren Holebas Amat
    Son Sanchez Firmino Redmond Allen
    Deeney Lukaku Aguero

Ideally need rid of Deeney & Son, but may mean I have to downgrade Walker.

Deeney, Walker & Son > Wilson/Austin, Fuchs and Coutinho (-4) worth it?

Walker's next few matches are tough so might not be missed. He does get some attacking points though. On balance, I'd say go for it.

Austin or Wilson? Prefer Austin personally but worried a Southampton and Liverpool attacking double up maybe a bit too much?

Be tempted to make 1 change and roll your other FT to after the international break, dude.

In terms of your team, I'd be thinking of getting rid of Deeney for Austin if you can afford to do that. Hull away for Austin, and 2 tough fixtures for Deeney.

Leave the Spurs boys for now - the NLD could be either a goalfest or a 1-0/0-0.

3 of next 4 fixtures for Chelsea are quite tough (Spurs, City, Everton). The other is again Borough. Bring in Hazard now or wait until they get better in GW16?

Hi guys, guy in my league was top 50 in the world before this week and unfortunately sold Kun for Zlatan (c) presumably as a gamble to try push higher.. so unfortunate!!

Wonder about the power of the FFS captains poll. Would maybe 500k of the 4m teams use the poll findings to choose the captain? Be interested to know the numbers of smart casuals.

Haha I'd imagine smart casuals are those who are slowly building up knowledge from probably NOT using the FFS site / captain poll, but using/watching the new FPL content on the main site - if you've watched the FPL show they do, they are nowadays showing the masses all of the tricks, tips and adages that are rooted in the FFS community.

Kind of both happy and sad that that is being shared!

Would you ditch one of Mane/Firmino to upgrade Benteke to Costa/Lukaku? If so, which one and if Costa, I'd have £7m for a mid and if Lukaku, I'd have £7.6m.

Do you still stick to what you said about Payet after yesterday's performance?

Yep, fine in the first half (created a few more chances). Second half West Ham were pretty poor incl. Payet.

Caroll should be back after the Intl Break I Suspect. Will ride out a 0.1 price fall if necessary. At the moment he's average 6 points a game for the period I've owned him, so that's fine with me.

or 7.4 pts a week average, incl the week when I captained him

Fair enough. West Ham looked pretty toothless if you ask me. Ayew back might help as well, I suppose.

Absolutely, they were wretched in the second half.

They like big games though, and Carroll is exactly who they're missing. Eventually Payet's crosses (which were good yesterday, unlike the direct FKs), will land on the head of Carroll, Ayew, Antonio or Reid.

    Awful week

    Pickford / Mandanda
    Clyne / Holebas / Bellerin / Francis / Amat
    Coutinho / Lallana / Son / Alli / Walcott
    Aguero / Lukaku / Barrow

    1 FT and 0.4 ITB

Obviously Son needs to go, do I take a hit and get Shaqiri + Wilson? or something else?

See how the game tonight goes. If Arnautovic is good, Son > him.

Should've done Son -> Shaq so I had some interest tonight, but I can't complain.

Up to 240k or so OR which I am satisfied with.

    ------------------Heaton-----------------
    -----Clyne Vertonghen Evans----
    Antonio Firmino Coutinho Snoddy
    --------Aguero Lukaku Ibra-------
    --------------------------------------------------
Pickford Capoue Pietere Amat. 1ft, 0 itb

What would you do with my team guys? Really struggling but need to act quickly due to price changes.

A Snoddy > Gundogan for 'free'
    Or
    B Snoddy + Ibra > Hazard + Austin for a '-4 point hit'

Having watched MOTD 5 things things spring to mind
    1) Sanchez is awesome
    2) Why is Heaton not England no1?
    3) We've decided that Hull are the whipping boys but Sunderland look a lot more shambolic, might change my punt from Redmond to a Bournemouth mid
    4) WILL IBRA EVER SCORE AGAIN?
    5) Liverpool defence, what the...?
