The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 14

And so the power shifts once again.

I can barely remember witnessing such upheaval: where we’ve had to re-consider where our big-money is spent and switch our sights, not only due to form, but simply availability.

We started the season coveting Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Then Diego Costa emerged, followed swiftly by Eden Hazard as Chelsea blossomed. Now Harry Kane, with seven goals in five, becomes a priority.

While these players battle for recognition in our squads, Sergio Aguero was considered by most as a mainstay: a factor that required little consideration.

That theory wavered back in Gameweek 3 but today’s events may have changed it for good.

Aguero had not served a suspension until this season. Now he is set to miss at least seven weeks of this campaign before the turn of the year. Few, if any, could have anticipated that.

Hours after the bombshell at the Etihad, Alexis Sanchez then provided his own explosion.

We always knew the dangers: deployed up front by Arsene Wenger, he has always been part of the heavy-hitter debate.

But, with heads turned by Chelsea’s faultless form and the promise from Eden Hazard, some, including this Fantasy manager, chose to lose Sanchez’ special talent, keeping Aguero locked into our attacks.

Now, with the City striker being ejected from squads throughout the land, the sacrifices required to gain the likes of Hazard, Costa and Marcos Alonso – all so alluring with Chelsea’s form and fixtures – no longer apply.

When I showed Sanchez the exit ahead of Gameweek 12, opting to sell Aguero was something I pondered, but quickly dismissed.

Today’s events punished that particular decision. They also force us re-examine the established thinking.

We are so set on Aguero. His place is so cemented in Fantasy Football folkore, the prospect of progressing through a season, or even a period of Gameweeks without him almost seems unthinkable.

But while a saintly Costa is scoring goals and avoiding the booking that will see him serve a one-match ban, we’ve seen Aguero inexplicably become an unreliable hothead.

We can’t begin to fathom how those roles have been reversed. We can only react to what we’ve now been dealt.

While those without Sanchez are denied the convenience of carrying out a like-for-like swap for Aguero, even with the cost of an additional transfer, it will likely prove a popular route.

Acquiring Sanchez no longer comes packaged with such sacrifice now that Aguero is out of the equation, his millions available to us.

In Gameweek 4 we formed plans to sell a suspended Aguero and bring him back two weeks later. This time around the landscape may have changed.

As of today, it seems likely that few will be forgoing Sanchez for Aguero should that decision ever arise again.

Although it’s almost folly to make such predictions in a season that refuses to allow us to settle in our thinking.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Heaton replacement? Only one I can think of atm is Robinson. Don't want a WBA or Stoke goalie cos I already have two of their defenders.

Is Amat now not as secure due to the 5-0 mauling? Or am I always going to fail trying to predict the unpredictable Bradley?

Amat should always be your fifth choice defender anyway. His price is an enabler, don't count on him for anything more.

Is this normal or this year's Dec-Early Jan fixtures look too crowded?

    GW15: 10-11 Dec
    GW16: 13-14 Dec
    GW17: 17-19 Dec
    GW18: 26-28 Dec
    GW19: 30 Dec-1 Jan
    GW20: 2 Jan-4 Jan

    They will die ffs!

Anyone planning to avoid any specific team in this duration fearing rotation?

looks exceptionally tough this year... utd have favourable fixtures and Jose doesnt seem to rotate as much as much as some of the other managers... Might try for ibra after the spurs game

I think only Southampton plays on 28,31,2
Other teams have 'decent' breaks between matches.
Personally avoiding City. See potential rotation with United mids (who has them anyway), and maybe some defences but not sure

Man City definitely - Pep rotates on a good week. Last year there weren't as many rotations as expected compared to previous years. Very few in fact, but I suppose it's wise to be prepared.

    Sanchez(C) Hazard Firmino Siggy
    Anichibe Costa(vc) Kane

who are you captaining this week? Haz/Costa?

If you are gonna pass this week, I don't see a point buying next week anyway. Would wait for the away fixtures to
everton and city to be out of the way then biy GW18 for the fixture shift. Gives you some time to raise the funds too.

    Walcott + Sigurdsson -> Sanchez + Can?

I already have Hazard, Firmino, Costa and Kane in my team, so this is one of the few ways I can actually get Sanchez in my team. Walcott doesn't seem to be influential enough in Arsenal's game at the moment, Sanchez is. But this would mean losing Sigurdsson (who is involved in almost everything Swansea does + great fixtures ahead). Can on the other hand has great stats and his ICT Threat index is almost as high as Sigurdsson's (but lower involvement). Is this the better option or should I only do

Walcott -> Eriksen (Eriksen really influential in Tottenham's game).

Losing Kun, came as a blow.I had just got to the point where I was happy with the balance in my team. City's fixtures are tasty in the next few are we trying to fit KDB in ( last time he thrived without the big man)

Really no other City alternatives given rotation and Sterling's injury/Form. Thoughts ??? ......

Well if you want City cover, then it's either making funds for KDB or punting on Iheanacho.
And City's fixtures don't seem as tasty as Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal. I can't see too many managers selling Hazard/Costa/Sanchez/Kane to fit in KDB. He may end up becoming a nice differential 🙂

I have all of those but still worry about no City player I am looking at Firminio to KDB and Alli to Lallana..which would look like this

        Heat,Pick
        Walker,Alonso,McAuley,Smith,Amat
        Hazard, Sanchez,KDB,Lallana,Allen
        Costa,Kane,Anichibe

Not sure how I feel about losing Firm, OK with Alli move as I have Kane,Walker.

    Just how essential is Hazard?

My current front 8 is -

    Sanchez, Walcott, Siggy, Firmino (Allen)
    Kane, Costa, Austin

Would your prioritise upgrading Walcott to Hazard? Other option is to bring Alonso in to my shaky defence!

Walcott to Haz would be my suggestion, just depends what sacrifices you need to make to do it

Would need to do Allen to De Roon!

How would you get the extra $$ to do Walcott to Hazard?
      Spare change from binning Aguero?
      I'd do it, if so.

If your defence really needs a shakeup then you should bring Alonso in. Wally to Hazard can come later, especially if you have no funds now.

Is it a completely pointless, futile affair owning Yaya, or maybe a total stroke of genius differential now that Aguero and Fernandinho are out for a bit?
Although he's just been done for drink driving which Pep won't be too happy with....

Anyone else struggling to get Alexis in?

    Foster Pickford
    Kos Fuchs Brunt Holebas Amat
    Allen Hazard Capoue Mane Siggy
    Austin Kane Kun

    1FT,1.5ITB

The easy route is selling Mane which I really don't want to do,
The hard route involves a -20 hit for the next 2 weeks to maintain a balanced squad over the festive season

You should get rid of Kun first before thinking to get Sanchez in. Can slowly assess during the week before taking the plunge.
      But -20 is a definitely no-no imo.

I did it last night, Aguero ban made it easy for me

Not sure a 20 p hit will be worth it?

See how Liverpool go today, no Coutinho MIGHT be an issue?

Jesus Christ took a -8 outta pure panic over prices and fact of not having sanchez is too much to handle.
    That's -20 points in 3 wks.

if the hits are getting you points and you want them for a few gw/s then its fine, iv completly relaxed on hits... went -20 1 week and -12 last week, both moves have improvced my total points by about 60 points. Just keep nailing that captain pick and your fine! Captained Sanchez this week 🙂

    Morning!

Is -12 hit too much to get Sanchez back in my team?
Thinking to do Deeney, Redmond and Koscielny -> Cedric, Sanchez and Anichebe.
    Thoughts?

        Grant, Pickford
        Koscielny, Alonso, Lovren, Holebas, Amat
        Hazard, Firmino, Sigurdsson, Redmond, Allen
        Kane, Costa, Deeney

Players what I would like out is Holebas, Koscielny, Redmond, Allen and Deeney.

Most people would say its too much but I did -12 for Sanchez yesterday. So would probably say go for it too.

Depends on the rest of your team. Not a huge fan on anchiebe

I was out most of yesterday. Must have been chaos when Aguero got red carded...

Fancy a punt on Iheanacho now for Austin though I really need to get rid of Gundogan as a priority..

Yes I agree. Seems to score every time he plays though! Very tempting. Need Gundog out though and I'm not sure Austin is all that. Regret selling Tekkers now but needed the 1.0m saving.

Think my team is pretty much good to hold now until after Xmas

    Heaton / Pickford
    Vertongan / Alonso / Cedric / Holebas / Amat
    Sanchez / Firmino / Siggy / Pedro
    Costa / Kane / Austin

Think the only pick I'm worried about is Pedro. £105.00 value now - 170k rank but expecting to explode over Xmas... I hope. 2nd or 3rd is most my mini leagues - time to take over!
    No more hits.

This season could show why team value is going to be important. Best I can afford is:

      Pickford - Grant
      Alonso - Smith - Amat - McAuley - Lenihan
Hazard - Sanchez - Sigurdsson - Firmino - De Roon
      Costa - Kane - Austin

Defence is terrible, but need the big hitters in midfield and attack.

totally agree he cost City the game by not acting on Luiz tackle. He had the whistle to his mouth and then just bottled it. But how did De Bruyne miss???

Fair play Chelsea though, they did a job in the second half
