The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 27

While all the pre-deadline chatter centred around our confidence, or otherwise, in Sergio Aguero, it is ironic that, hours later, we’re left pondering the future prospects of two of our season’s most reliable heavy-hitters.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been earmarked as an obvious target for the Gameweek 27 armband. Bournemouth’s visit to Old Trafford appeared to present a perfect scenario for the Swede: finally, he seemed poised to deliver that 15-20 point haul that would show that he could rival any asset for big “explosive” scores.

With the Cherries defence visibly shaken by United’s early forays, it appeared that Ibrahimovic would be given that opportunity. But, instead, he was to suffer his most torrid performance of the season, returning his lowest FPL tally.

To compound matters, an errant elbow into the cheek of Tyrone Mings seems likely to be reviewed and potentially punished by the FA. That could result in a three-match ban, ruling Ibrahimovic out of Gameweeks 29 and 30.

Already missing Gameweek 28 as a result of United’s FA Cup Quarter Final with Chelsea – another match he would miss should a charge and ban arrive – Ibrahimovic has already been sold more than any other asset since the passing of today’s deadline.

While he would certainly become an obvious target once United’s double Gameweek fixtures drop in place, up until that point, he now looks set to flood out of squads, declining in ownership and price.

Certainly, should Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane impress, along with Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa, in tomorrow’s matches, then a new front three template will likely form without Ibrahimovic.

It’s again ironic that Aguero saved legions of Fantasy Premier League managers from suffering the indignity of a doubling his -1 contribution. With the focus on skippering the City man, we had a new and obvious alternative for the captaincy.

Today’s outcome also created further doubt that, even in a double Gameweek scenario, Ibrahimovic could struggle to rival the promise of Aguero, Kane or Sanchez when it comes to dealing the Triple Captain chip.

But Sanchez produced his own shockwaves, having been ousted to the bench by Arsene Wenger for the evening trip to Liverpool.

While the Chilean impressed and produced an assist from the bench, Wenger’s almost inexplicable decision was unexpected and unwelcome.

Those who turned the back on the Aguero Triple Captain option, banking on the inevitable Sanchez double Gameweek to come, now have to consider that Giroud’s pitch time remains a factor. There will also be further speculation on the relationship between player and manager, while Arsenal’s erratic form and morale remains a concern.

No doubt targeted for an early return to our squads from Gameweek 29 onwards, tonight’s teamsheet and lacklustre first-half from the Gunners may just slow the clamour to return for Sanchez’s services.

Suddenly, with Ibrahimovic potentially out of the equation and confidence in Sanchez taking a knock, those Man City assets may just stick around longer than expected.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi all.
Need a little advice on my free transfer for GW28.
Got 2.8 mill in the bank. Should I go:

    Ibra - Llorente
    Or
    Hollebas - Coleman

    Got baines already.

Option A. Ibra seems to be getting a suspension and besides Llorente is playibg next week.

Haha, I did exactly that. Ibra to Lorrente... I suspect it will be a popular move so part of my reasoning was to avoid/gain price drops and rises

          Sanchez,

but it means you need to have Llorente, Defoe, Gabbiadini etc rather than a £10+ 3rd forward to afford him and have a balanced team with a Spurs mid etc

Gap also staring to appear between Sunderland, Hull & Middleborough and the rest 😮

Anyone have any GW29 WC drafts? Looking at this atm. This is where my £101.3 SV hurts.

    Valdes - Pickford
    Luiz - Vertonghen - Rojo - £5.0 - Yoshida
    Sanchez - Sterling - Pedro - Eriksen - King
    Kane/Ibra - Defoe - Gabbiadini

I don't dare look.....my TV/SV is now so poor I know there will be so many players I want, but can't afford.

The Defoe-Gabbiadini paring definitely looks like a decent place to save some cash. But that means only one place for Aguero/Ibra/Kane/Costa 😮

Yeah, those 2 look class DGW options, with Sunderland about to go on their annual miracle run. Think I'll go Ibra if not suspended and hope Eriksen/Pedro/Sterling are able substitutes for the big hitters.

Indeed the dreaded 2nd string 'cover' players are going to come into play. Pedro looks like an able replacement for Hazard I think. Not sure on Sterling.

I really hope Sanchez is on the slide (dropped/huff/ready to leave etc) cause I just can't see me being able to afford him again 😀

I thinking of this for GW29 WC

      Heaton/Pickford
      Alonso/Cahill/Walker/Mawson/3.9
      Sanchez/Eriksen/Firmino/Siggy/Carroll
      Kane/Costa/Gabby

      Depends how this/next week goes.

            Alonso/Coleman/Walker/Mawson/3.9

I think I'm bitter that I chose Baines over him!! But really I will try to load up on future DGW players as much as possible. Spurs and Chelsea have the easiest run ins so may double up. A lot can change seein I thought I'd hold Ibra for the rest of the year before yesterday!

I think with Ibra out it improves the goalscoring prospects of Mata and Mkhi. Ibra really slows the game down - fine if you are putting the ball on his head or finding him in the box, but rubbish for counter attacks.

Depends on your situation. I'm 2nd in my ML where first has already used WC. I am considering WC early, loading up from teams I know will eventually have DGW. I can lose my deadwood (WB/BOU players) all at once and hopefully make up ground. I just think if I save for GW36, I am relying too heavily on a successful BB to win my ML. Still undecided though.

Firmino and Mane for the rest of the season me thinks. Fixtures a bit easy though would like to see a lot more red fixtures in there preferably top 4 teams.

Coutinho numbers are very good. I think he will get points soon.

If first DGW is in 34 and WC before 36. Which players we are getting in before 34? Arsenal, City, Southampton, United?

Watching how Burnley defended against Swansea is making me wanna captain Mane/Coutinho.

Thoughts of Cout captain Gw2 is making me worry.

Also, I dreamt that Aguero got a hattrick last night. Two in the first half then a tap in shortly into the second.

Liverpool will resort to being a pile of sh*te against Burnley and lose 0-1.

Can anyone see any hope of Ibra avoiding ban?

Was set on kun to llorente but now not sure. Not sure worth selling both for next week - already have lukaku.

If the ref saw it then yes, if not ...

I did a kneejerk Ibra to Llorente last night. I think he should be banned, but depends whether the ref feels that he saw the incident clearly and dealt with it.

Will decide later in the week whether to take a hit for one of the below.

Sane to Firmino (already have Mane)

      Kane/Aguero to Lukaku
