The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thinking Benteke + Ibra in for Aguero + Origi and then going AOA.

Would leave me with 7 players with Doubles next GW
Is this too many considering I don't have a WC left?

    What would u do here?

    Valdes,
    Bailly, Gibson.
Alli, Sanchez, Hazard, Zaha, De Roon.
    Kane, Aguero*, Origi*.
    Pickford, B Davies, Holgate, Yoshida
    2ft, 0.5m.

If I didn't have a wc I probably wouldn't bother with benteke and start focusing on the next double's, with Southampton and Arsenal in mind.

How's this for an early DGW 37 team to bench boost?

    Bravo (LEI,WBA) - Pickford (SWA,ars)
    Alonso (wba,WAT) - Rose (MUN,lei) - Yoshida (mid,MUN) - Kone (SWA,ars) - A.Smith (BUR)
    Sanchez (sto,SUN) - Hazard (wba,WAT) - Alli (MUN,lei) - Sane (LEI,WBA) - O.Romeu (mid,MUN)

The defense has to be light in order to afford the premium mids and strikers. Almost no good SGW fixtures apart from Palace and B'mouth. Plus Pickford is a great option because of save points.

Your thoughts on the following moves:

    A) Pickford to de Gea (-4)
    B) Siggy to Townsend / Lingard (-4)
    C) Lukaku to Benteke (-4)

Just to clarify, I'm not asking for the best of the three. Just want to know your views on each of them independently. Cheers.

I have Grant/Foster combo, Foster no fixture this gw and Grant might be at risk from Butland now. So I think I need to sell Grant.

GW34/35/37 fixtures most important, who should I get?

    1) Pickford (mid) (BOU) (ars SWA)
    2) Hennessey (TOT liv) (BUR) (HUL)
    3) Valdes (SUN bou) (MCI) (SOT)

For GW34 which three forwards to choose out of Lukaku, Kane, Bentekke and Ibra? I don't have Ibra in my team at present.

Got Valdes in goal and thinking Gibson to double up(Bavies out). Alternative double up on Palace with Benteke coming in for Origi (have Zaha). Or both for -4?

Bavies out allows for Kane in from 35 onwards

Reckon Sane brings in more points then Robertson or Holgate? Looked good against Soton, but City seems to find it harder at home. And who knows, perhaps Pep will tinker him out of the squad.

Really hard to predict with his just coming back. That said, his case was helped today: Schlupp was awful and they looked better going forward after PvA came on. Even if he only starts one, I'd expect him to play a decent part in the other.

CPL also have a decent GW37 so holding on to Zaha and Benteke may improve it I guess.

Should be able to get 11DGWers in GW37 so adding them to these SGWers I already have looks better actually, right?

          Zaha (HUL)
          Benteke (HUL)
          Lukaku (WAT)

The issue is 541 is not the real formation if you had no BB.

Yeah, good point. No BB and playing 5-4-1 when everyone else is BBing in 37 could be quite eeek. Unless I just start the above 3 SGWers in an 11.

Pretty good team for 34!! I'd not want to bench anyone.

Yes it's probable that MU assets will not play both this game week BUT when we get to 37 I imagine there will be plenty of other teams who will be resting players.
I'd be very surprised if anyone managed to get out a whole team of DGWs who played both games either this dgw or next.

This. Anyone with a WC has an obvious advantage but rotation in GW37 may dissipate the WC.

Yeah I agree, although whether MUN assets play both games this week isn't really relevant to the BB, as I'll be starting them anyway, right?

Given the fixtures for Zaha, Benteke & Lukaku are decent in GW37, and they will likely be on my bench (if I get 11 DGWers by then), I think 37 still edges it for BB in hindsight. This week doesn't look bad though if Stones is fit. Benching nightmare in attack this week!!

Took a hit last minute by doing Carroll > Benteke which didn't work out points wise. (-3). Hopefully he can out score Carroll in two games!

Was so hoping for a Zaha/Bentek goal combo this GW. Oh well...

    Just sharing 🙂

Is Lukaku to Ibra is a no brainer for next gw for this team??

    Valdes
    Alonso Bailly Gibson
    Hazard Alli Eriksen Zaha
    Kane Lukaku Benteke

    Pickford JWP Yoshida Stones

    i have 1.8 ITB & 1FT left

2FT, 0ITB and not sure what to do (have the good ol' reset button available also)

    Pickford/ Grant
    Alonso/ Valencia/ Fernandez/ Robertson/ Pieters
    Sanchez/ Alli/ Erick/ Siggy/ King
    Ibra/ Lukaku/ Negredo

    Siggy + Def>> Zaha/ Boro def?
Try and squeeze Kane in now?

      Pieters > Gibson
      Grant > Henn

Selling Kun seems very wrong especially before against Man U. Have DDG, Gibson, Zaha. Willing to add two more.
    1) Ibra for Kun
    2) a second Boro DF
    3) a second Man U DF if I do (1)
    4) Mkhi if I do (1)
    (5) another palace mid or a DF ?
    Thanks!

Defense is cheap but returns are not bad. I can play Gibson, Davies, Robertson/ Holebas. other one is Ward of Burnley.
I prefer to get another Boro DF. WC available.

Yes, but I don't wanna be without Ibra who might play both games. He won't miss the derby for sure. Burnley away is tough. They need him in that game too. The guy had enough rest. He hardly runs in games. Can play all games if needed (if they don't lose tonight)

    My team is:
    Pickford-Foster

    Alonso-Valencia-Yoshida-Pieters-Robertson

    Sanchez-Alli-Son-Zaha-Firmino

    Lukaku-Ibra-Barnes

I was thinking Foster to Valded GW 34 in FT.
    Then...
    1.
    A. WC 35
    B. TC sanchez 36
    C. BB 37

    Or...
    2.
    A. TC Ibra 34
    B. WC maybe 36
    C. BB 37

    Grant, Jaku
    VALENCIA, BRUNT, BAVIES, STONES, Robertson
    SANCHEZ, ERIKSEN, SON, Zaha, King
    IBRA, Lukaku, Benteke

Given I have no WC and, looking forward to GW37, I have 8 DGWers and 4 FTs to improve the squad in advance of a BB in GW37. Will likely throw a few hits in there also.

    Reckon these are the priorities?

    1 SOT in GW35 (Cedric/Yoshida)
    2-3 CHE in GW36 (Alonso/Pedro/Haz)
    1 ARS in GW36 (Walcott)
1-2 MCY in GW36 (Jesus, Sterling)
