Dugout Discussion – Newcastle vs Liverpool

Next up, Newcastle United and Liverpool bring the curtain down on Gameweek 7 in the 4.30pm kick-off at St James’ Park.

The big news is that Roberto Firmino drops to the visitors’ bench for the first time this season.

With just one goal in his last five league outings, the Brazilian was second only to Sergio Aguero for transfers out last week, with over 266,000 parting company.

Today’s news looks likely to signal further sales, barring a virtuoso outing off the bench.

Firmino was the sixth top captain option for the Gameweek and the most popular from today’s late match. Over 128,000 backed him with the armband, with Mo Salah (115,000) next in line.

Interest in Philippe Coutinho is on the rise, though – he was subject to more than 186,000 transfers in after following up a 13-point haul at Leicester with a midweek Champions League strike at Spartak Moscow.

And lest we forget Sadio Mane – the only player to score in each of the first three matches prior to his early dismissal at Man City in Gameweek 4.

For Newcastle, Matt Ritchie’s creativity could profit against a defence that’s shipped 10 goals in their three away matches.

The Magpies’ midfielder has assisted three of Newcastle’s last four home goals, earning 17 points in the last two in front of his own supporters.

Up against the Reds’ prolific attack, there’s no surprise to see than Rob Elliot is the most benched player for the Gameweek, named as a sub by more than 1.1m owners.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Stoke and Burnley play very deep, suggesting Silva could be the better option. Sterling and Sane are both best on the counter.

Aguero’s injury doesn’t seem to be long term. Silva looks more nailed but Sterling is 0.5 cheaper and could be value for money.

How did Hazard play vs City? Too early to get him in? too expensive?

    1. Shota Coco
      • 10 Years
      6 years, 7 months ago

Chelsea were too deep for Hazard to get points but City are a much better team right now. He'll do well in the next three but there are cheaper alternatives who can match him like City MFs who should prosper whilst Aguero's out the team.

Vardy's hip puts me off that one but a Firmino upgrade is required. If Sturridge ran around a bit more off the ball then I think Firmino would be perma-benched.

A lot of the top ranked players have used quite a few chips - seem to skew the OR a lot ... well, that is what I am telling myself ...

That is true and that is also why around Christmas time the top 10k or so gets a lot of shuffling and even more with the first DGW

The last 3 games of the season last year with my WC and DGW BB gave me 93, 187 and 88 points ... so hopefully will have some gas in the tank towards the end of the season again.

Now Kane is in form, is Rashford a viable alternative to Lukaku? Lukaku has only scored more than one goal once and with fixtures taking a turn for the worse, is Rashford and upgrading a mid to Hazard an alternative?
