Technical Area – Budget Midfield Options

One key to a successful Fantasy season has always been the early discovery of a midfield gem.

The 2015/16 season saw Riyad Mahrez rise from relative obscurity to the heights of a 240-point season, while last campaign, Josh King’s 16 goals powered many Fantasy line-ups to the top of their respective mini-leagues.

After seven Gameweeks, we are beginning to accumulate sufficient data to begin making more confident assertions regarding a player’s underlying performance metrics.

This international break is, therefore, an ideal time to evaluate the potential candidates for the title of must-have budget midfielder this time around.

It also gives us the chance to roll out – for the first time in Technical Area – data on expected goals (xG) and assists (xA), a new source of information which will soon be available to our members.

          Had shoulder surgery mid September. Like a stabilisation, which will require 6 weeks in a cast/set position and then probably another 6-12 weeks of rehab. Id expect back around February time.

        There’s an obvious relevance that if he is playing further forward he may have more chance of assists.

        It could also help his baseline bonus - which is already strong from his defensive duties.

        Well I have to move out firmino and Mikhi. Plus I have Kaku and eriksen also who can be sold if I bring in Kane. Unable to make up my mind between Jesus and a city MF. Once I do that the other transfers will fit in.

        Do you not feel in order for your MC attacking assets all to produce you need 4 goals+, whereas if you have a defender instead your at less of a risk of blanking?

          Its more about flexibility on a wildcard - creating cash cows. Sterling or Silva can be downgraded to say Richarlison - which in turn frees up money to upgrade elsewhere by a clear 2m. Aguero perhaps? Lukaku? Or upgrade a 4.5 def to Walker.

          I could get Walker in and downgrade later but not keen on more 4.5 defenders.

    on WC and downgrading Lukaku and splashing the cash elsewhere would switch from a big up front 3 to a 2 of Jesus and Kane.
