Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 8

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we cast our minds back to the previous Gameweek, before preparing you for the incoming fixtures.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and our current Watchlist, before moving on to our Fantasy Football Scout team and future plans.

Gameweek 7 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Man United vs Crystal PalaceMarouane Fellaini
West Brom vs WatfordRicharlison
West Ham vs SwanseaAlfie Mawson
Chelsea vs Manchester CityKevin De Bruyne
Arsenal vs BrightonAlexis Sanchez
Everton vs BurnleyJames Tarkowski
Newcastle vs LiverpoolMatt Ritchie

A mixture of big hitters and budget enablers make up the gang this week, with Harry Kane (46.7%) and Kevin De Bruyne (17.5%) the most heavily owned.

Meanwhile, Richarlison stormed into the top three midfielders for points.

He costs just 7.6 – slightly more pricey than budget enablers of the past – but is building a compelling case for inclusion, with Watford’s fixtures also picking up from Gameweek 12 to further his cause.

James Tarkowski, at 6.1, is another name for consideration. The imposing centre-back now has two MoTM awards and has been key to Burnley’s three shut-outs so far.

Gameweek 8 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 11 points or more in bonus for the season:

members

Man City’s Nicolas Otamendi is probably the most appealing option here. He comes in at 8.6 and is a regular tier two passing earner.

In fact, his bonus is the equivalent of three extra clean sheets already. So considering he has five shut-outs to add to that, you could look at it as eight clean sheets in seven matches, or eight goals in seven for a forward.

That’s impressive scoring whichever way you look at it.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Only Romelu Lukaku looks set to make the weekend’s action as injuries claim some popular players. Alvaro Morata, in particular, stands out as roughly one in ten managers removed him over the international break.

Harry Kane’s frightening form means a further 11.6% have jumped on board, while Sergio Aguero’s recent injury prompted many to turn to Gabriel Jesus and De Bruyne ahead of Man City’s favourable schedule. Elsewhere, Richarlison and Romelu Lukaku make up the top five.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Notes

A jump in rank by a whole two places suggests my week was…average.

To be honest, it was probably less than average when you consider I had a transfer frenzy, subbing in Kiko Femenia, Eden Hazard and Andre Carrillo for Kyle Naughton, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Knockaert.

I simply couldn’t bear another Gameweek with Knockaert in my line-up, while Matic was failing to deliver bonus points at the rate I expected.

I’m now fairly happy with my set-up, with Alexandre Lacazette basically a placeholder for captain rotation. In fact, he’s coming out for Jamie Vardy on Monday. The main concern is undoubtedly my lack of Man City options ahead of their forthcoming fixtures.

I’ll likely wait until Sergio Aguero is fully fit and then address that issue further down the line.

Captain Plan

Sat 14th – Kane (BOU)
Sun 15th – Forster (NEW)
Mon 16th – Vardy (WBA)

    Fabianski / Elliot

    Bavies / Otamendi / Jones / Maguire / Mee

    Eriksen / Salah / Sterling / Richarlison / Carroll*

    Kane / Jesus* / Joselu

    1) Is Jesus that secure a pick with Kun almost back?
    2) Is RLC a better 4.5 option than Carroll?
    3) Any other tips?!

    Thanks in advance.

      1. no
      2. no (can't play against chelsea)
      3. I find it a slightly worrying team with some rotation risk or uncertainty to Bavies and Otamendi, Sterling and Jesus, Jones is an injury risk. The remaining players are fodder. Although none of it is acute right now there are enough players that there's a question mark or two above that I think you could get stung. Seek to eliminate some of this uncertainty in the key players. Maybe go with Vardy and Silva instead of Jesus and Sterling and look to upgrade Jones to Azpi. That's what i'd be doing anyways

Thanks for the advice. The RLC question was more long term than this week as he will be bench fodder most weeks anyway. Jones is on my bench this week regardless of fitness and I have value in him so am willing to hold for now. I've also been toying with Vardy all week so I will certainly have a think. Nothing worse than finding half your players rotated after a WC so thanks!

I always tend to look to eradicate uncertainties but this can be to the detriment of the ceiling e.g. Jesus and Sterling prob have a higher ceiling than Silva and Vardy, but...

RLC if he gets minutes absolutely must be a batter option when Zaha is back. Carroll's stats are ok for the occassional assist but Swansea's strikers are absolutely dire. With Zaha back you have to think RLC has more potential

            • 9 Years

Yes it's a tricky balance between risk & potentially high reward/having to chop and change down the line. I'm sure I'll reconsider and change many times before 11.30 tomorrow.

Yes I think you're right. I've been slightly bored by Carroll since GW1 so I may give RLC a go from now.

What if i told you Raheem Sterling started 22 of the first 25 pl games last season. He got 6 goals and 10 assists in that period

With him getting off to a strong start again and more mature cant see him getting rotated regularly . Agree ?

when he got rotated(started 6 of last 13) he got only only 1 goal and 1 assist

            Davies Maguire Cedric Ward
            Hazard Silva Sterling
            Kane (c) Lukaku Ayew

            Elliot Choupo Dunk King

Should I play Choupo/Dunk in place of Ayew?

              I'd play Ayew over Choupo.

Me neither really but I think Stoke would do well to find much luck at the Etihad this weekend.

Any fans of Swansea on here...has T Carroll ever actually looked like scoring or assisting this season? I know he's only 4.5 but trying to work out whether to get RLC on a WC instead.

            Meh WC?

            Fab (Elliott)
            Luiz-Stones-Cedric-Simpson-Ward
            Hazard-Sterling (Carroll-Stephens-Choupo)
            Lukaku-Jesus-Vardy

1.2 ITB for moving in Aguero/Morata/etc as time goes by

Thinking of taking my first hit of the season. Would you do Monreal>Azpi / Eriksen>Willian/Fabregas & Firmino > Jesus? Team linked and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for any advice that can be given!

Don't break up your team so quick.

Great score last week with loads on the bench as well.

Ward 3rd sub! I would worm Haz in your team at your pleasure you know what you're doing.

Thank you for the reply and I appreciate the kind words.
Just hoping to consolidate my position, especially with so many wildcards being played this week.
Hazard or Morata is an issue. Maybe best to do Jesus & Fab for Firm & Mkhi and avoid a hit.

In need of some serious help here guys!! Took -8 for :-

            Mkhi > Sterling
            Lacazette > Kane
            Firmino > Vardy

            Team:-

            Fabianski (Elliot)

            Cedric | Naughton | Kolasinac* | Jones* ( Goldson)

Sterling | Salah | Eriksen (Atsu* RLC**)

            Kane (c) | Morata** | Vardy

Now have 0.1 itb and so can't get Jesus in place of Morata...Atsu is also a doubt..
Should I play my free hit??

If you still have your WC then it is time to activate it.. I had similar issues last week and i played the free hit gambling on triple arsenal defense that actually worked out.

No WC...planning to free hit with this team:-

                    Schmeichel
                    Davies Ota Naughton Ward Luiz
                    Haz Sterling Eriksen
                    Kane(c) Jesus

                    Worth it??

In theory there can be clean sheets in this team and high attacking rewards.. My only doubt would be Jesus because of his 180 international football minutes and the trip back from Brazil , Stoke being an easy fixture , Napoli coming ahead in CL + Aguero back in training. I just read the Team News section and it seems that jones and kolasinac are minor issues so most likely they are going to play. Also a lot of FPL managers have the same issues and are going to get hits and have Morata on the bench, so i don't think you are going to be left behind. The majority will also have Kane as captain. As i told you before you need to get lucky with the free hit chip.. If you have a feeling this team will do much better than the average or your ML competitors then go for it.

I think there's fairly strong justification for the free hit this week

At a guess a 20-30 point free hit is decent. You are going to likely end up -8 to -16 if we predict what it would take to field 11. If you activate you will also get your free transfer back so that is the equivalent of -12 to -20. It's impossible to say now about your two defenders so let's guess that one makes it and one doesn't. This is ~16. Can you pick a team which will outscore your current team by ~ 5 points.

By trashing Morata for a 4.5 you could upgrade all four of your defenders to beasts who are definitely going to play (and remember who city, chelsea and Spurs are playing)

Thanks a lot for the insight..if I play the free hit will the -8 negate??

Yes and next week you should be credited with the transfer you used before the two hits as well as next weeks transfer

^This...TAMAGOTCHI MASSACRE explained it much better than me... Definitely go for a 4-4-2 on a free hit with beast wing backs and players that collect BAPS.
