Fresh from their second win in five matches, Aston Villa endeavour to keep their survival hopes alive with a win over Liverpool. The Reds surrendered a two-goal lead in the final 10 minutes against Sunderland, so they’ll be in pursuit of just their second win in seven outings.
The Villains’ productivity on the attacking front will have to improve if they harbour any aspirations of staging a miraculous escape, considering that they ranked joint-second-bottom for big chances (two) and fifth-bottom for shots inside the box (22) over the last four Gameweeks. On a more positive note, Remi Garde’s unit conceded three goals and notched two clean sheets, establishing a solid base from which to build upon.
Liverpool racked up seven goals across the previous four Gameweeks but were carved open at the back with ease: the Merseysiders shipped nine goals and were one of just four teams that failed to register a single clean sheet. Moreover, only five clubs have conceded more goals in road ties (19) than Liverpool. Given that Jurgen Klopp’s men shipped eight goals in their last trio of away matches, the Reds’ boss might feel inclined to adapt their approach.
