The ScoutCast – Episode 212 – Forearmed

And so it begins. This is our time – the period of the season where the hours of planning and strategising lay the foundations for big hauls to come.

Blanks and double Gameweeks are looming, and we’re clearing our heads in preparation to embrace the variables and manoeuvrings they present. We’re not sure if we’re going to be able to fully exploit them, but we’re certain that, should we fail, it won’t be for a lack of planning.

Guided by your questions, it all starts here, in this latest episode of the ScoutCast, where Jonty and Andy join me to pick through the early “known unknowns” and lay down the groundwork.

Elsewhere in the episode, we overcome Jonty’s “cow on the line” incident to embark on some formation dancing; considering the shift back to 3-4-3 and, once again, entertaining the idea of a big spend in defence.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Gray worries me. I didn't realise how many away games Burnley have. They are juicy fixtures but Burnley don't do goals away from home. Plus I hate the cheap 3rd striker template. Would like Costa back after Arsenal.

    Everton and WBA assets

I'm guessing most people will have five or six players from Everton and WBA soon enough. Who are you all going for?

I'm probably just sticking with Brunt, Phillips, Baines, Coleman and Lukaku. Might get Rondón if he looks good.

I wouldn't load up on them too much, they're not extremely reliable teams and it's always good to keep a healthy balance.

      1. Chris_White
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

Well they're both in form and have nice fixtures. And their assets are quite cheap...

          • 9 Years
          7 years, 3 months ago

Sure, but I think 6 is too much. I'd stop at 4, once their good fixtures end, you've got a lot of work to do and they don't have too many fixture proof players.

Atleast 1 of EVE + WBA defense assets gets you till GW 29 easily with a really nice string of good fixtures. Makes planning for 26/28 so much easier when you know your 2/3 of defense is taken care off.

The most impressive are his dribbling runs through the middle, he looks extremely clumsy, but usually manages to dribble past anyone in his way. He only forgets to lift his head up sometimes, afterall he's a centerback 🙂

When Stanislas' games turn for the worse, is anybody keeping him? I am between keeping him as a cheap 5th (pens and set pieces) and playing 4 at the back OR buying Tom Carroll and using the extra money elsewhere. I can't see Carroll getting as many points as Stanislas though and Stanislas is only 1m more.

He is but their fixtures take a turn for the worse. The thing that stays in his favour are the set pieces and pens but Palace's fixtures are already and Zaha is a good player. Benteke may even find some form with him crossing the ball for him.....

Rojo has been good since he has come back into the side at CB. Yes he has a rash tackle or two in him but he is determined and Jose love players like that. I think he is the safest bet for one of the CBs.

Whilst talking Maguire and all things defensive. A stat attack that may well be worth remembering being as it's the DZ and mainly regulars.

We've all agreed Hull have passed the eye test of late at the back but still conceded against the likes of Chelsea, WBA (away) and Everton..but...their chances conceded have fallen dramatically from the very worst to hovering just above the best defences in the league. If one team looks like it might start providing pts during the run in (always one) i'd suggest they're the ones who look best set.

Good point, is Davies injured again though?

Dunno. They still have some shocking fixtures to come but then they look good. If they can keep the chances conceded fairly low over the next three, even without CS's, then they may be well set for a pick.

Anyone thinking of Eriksen for captain this gw?

He's got 5 goals in his last 4 vs Sunderland.

    I'm tempted.

I was considering Kane but now that he's kaput for the season, yeah Eriksen might be a good shout.

No, I'm just kidding, alluding to some previous banter I had with Mr. West earlier today. I guess you kinda had to be there.

I don't think so, he'll be sharing free kicks and won't be on pens

As Wakey mentioned Maguire, i'd say this is a good summer to get your English centre-backs rather than looking abraod. Ben Gibson, Michael Keane, Harry Maguire and Alfie Mawson all looking very easy on the eye and at a good age(23/24). A couple of them could go down and be great cut price deals.

I agree. Maguire and Mawson, definetly picking up one of these guys if HulSwa play in 28.

I think Maguire has more of the attacking threat.

    Evening.
What do I do with this lot? Giroud is gone after this week but other than that I have no plan.

    Heaton Robinson
    Azpi Baines Brunt Gibson Amat
    Alexis Stanislas Philips Eriksen Clayton
    Giroud Aguero Zlatan

    2FT 0 itb.
I'm gonna have to spend at least one FT so I don't waste one on nothing.
Gibson--->downgrade could be something maybe? Friend?

    1. Pep says

Clayton to Tom Carroll or Amat to Holgate

Looking to upgrade Stanislas so I'm gonna have to downgrade Giroud. Might also get rid of Aguero depending on how he does this GW. Not that much I can do this week tbh. Getting in cheap players who are nailed on for the upcoming blanks (26/28).

I need to upgrade my 4th midfielder, should I get Phillips or is having triple West Brom overkill?

    Courtois (Pickford)

    Brunt, McAuley, Alonso, Smith (Pieters)

    Rodriguez, Pedro, Sanchez (Larsson, Capoue)

    Kane, Giroud, Lukaku

    Lost on last post.

    Pick 2 to play:

    A) Barnes (LEI)
    B) Phillips (mid)
    C) Evans (mid)
    D) Pieters (EVE)

    - A - is home to Leicester who are rubbish and he's got pens
    - B - will be away to a tough Boro defence, without Chambers
    - C - will he start after a period out with injury? They can park the bus well against a weak Boro attack
    - D - decent home defensive form against an in-form Everton

Current;y thinking A is a must, but not sure after that. Your thoughts?
