Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Manchester City vs Swansea City

We make our way to the Etihad in the first of two Sunday fixtures now as Manchester City entertain a resurgent Swansea City in the 1.30pm kick-off.

All eyes are on new boy Gabriel Jesus, who is handed his first home start by Pep Guardiola after bagging a goal and assist in the midweek demolition of West Ham United.

The Brazilian was the most transferred in player for Gameweek 24, with 192,298 Fantasy Premier League managers scrambling for his services.

Sergio Aguero is benched yet again, with his 19% FPL owners now desperately seeking alternatives. Pep also keeps faith in Willy Caballero after City grabbed a first clean sheet in five on Wednesday.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, with goals in back-to-back Gameweeks, Raheem Sterling (a goal or assist in six of the last eight) and Leroy Sane (three goals and an assist in four appearances in all competitions) are also in fine form, yet City’s blank Gameweek 26 and potential blank Gameweek 28 has curbed our short-term enthusiasm.

Swansea, meanwhile, roll up on the back of three wins in four, with Gylfi Sigurdsson returning to form with two goals and a pair of assists over that period.

At present, Paul Clement’s men are one of just six sides that will definitely play in both Gameweek 26 and 28.

While Siggy is the obvious pick, Fernando Llorente (seven goals in 11 Gameweeks) and the budget defender Alfie Mawson, with two goals in four, are also on our radars as we look to navigate the upcoming blanks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

There was a good bet to put Jesus to captain 😉 But guys can you help with my team..

    Grant - Randolph
    Alonso - Rose - Baines - Brunt - Love
    Sanchez - Alli - Pedro - Phillips - Stanislas
    Ibra - Lukaku - Jesus

    0.7£ ITB.

    So:
    1. Stanislas --> Snoddy or Zaha or Iwobi
    2. Stanislas and Phillips --> Siggy and De Roon

    Or something else?

I dont think you should move out stanislas for a player who is going to blank in GW28. With 14 teams potentially blanking, every player who plays is going to be a differential. I suggest pedro>siggy/antonio should be your move. If you are not happy with stan then go for stan>king. He is going to play a central striker role in absence of callum wilson

      Brunt and zaha.
I have the same heaton-jaku problem. Haven't sorted it out yet. But for time being, I'll say jaku is better choice since Chelsea are more ruthless than arsenal

I understand the reaction to people getting in players with blanks, but if GW28 is indeed microscopic, fielding 11 players will require
-- players from weak teams, for the most part
-- players going against each other, for the most part, so your attackers and defenders have a combined lower ceiling.

Avoiding a player on fire just so you can defeat the average by 25-15 in gw28 seems a bit shortsighted to me.

I agree. For the small ground we stand to gain in 26, it could easily be lost in 27 and then it's only gw28 we'll hope to regain and possibly be thrashed again in gw29

Also depends on your formation. Ibra > Jesus gives you 2.5m which will enable you to play 3-5-2 the weeks he blanks...

Teams who don't Blank don't have Expensive Mids
          So I don't think that extra 1.3/2 M over Costa/Kane is useful

This is the question, I believe. Form, fixtures are going to be so crucial to correctly determine since the class of these players is so obvious right now.

    5. Ha.
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 2 months ago

Exactly, especially if the players you are avoiding are scoring. Could field 11 in GW28, only for half of them to get 2 points. Compare that to a player who scores in every other game.

I keep saying it. Just take a view on how many players the game at large will be fielding and react accordingly. No need to rip your team up if the avg starters for the GW is going to be six players....just make sure you have six players...and keep your star assets.

Well obviously a player like Lukaku has a higher chance to score than Ibra between gw 26-28. The players you pick won't be there forever. I'm not suggesting you should take hits to field 11 but I think that 6 players at least is a must and United City Arsenal Southampton are teams to avoid. 2 games in 4 weeks isn't going to do it

      1. tm245
        • 12 Years

Yes, what I am getting at is we are now looking at what a player will do from 25-29 and then assessing for the international break. Give the fixtures and form, triple Chelsea plus Jesus/Sterling could certainly outscore those with five fixtures.

I really can't see the point in bringing Jesus in now though. Expect even Carroll to outscore him from 25-28. You can always bring Jesus in gw 29

Having a hard time choosing between Barkley, Siggy and Antonio. So made this comparison of promising non-blanking mids. Think Barkley edges it for me. Good differential too. Any other candidates?

Statistical form (last 6 GWs): (Goal attempts/On target/Chances created)

    1 Barkley 17 / 8 / 15
    2 Sigurdsson 17 / 9 / 12
    3 Antonio 14 / 4 / 9
    4 Phillips 14 / 3 / 6

    Fixtures:

    1 Barkley mid - SUN - tot - WBA - HUL (11 FDR)
    2 Sigurdsson LEI - che - BUR - hul - bou (12 FDR)
    3 Antonio WBA - wat - CHE - bou - LEI (13 FDR)
    4 Phillips wha - BOU - CRY - eve - ARS (14 FDR)
