Dugout Discussion – Burnley vs Newcastle

The Gameweek finale falls on Turf Moor, for a Monday night encounter under the lights between Burnley and Newcastle United.

Fantasy interest is limited, in the main, to the defensive players on show. That’s a good thing scanning the statistics building up to this match.

Sean Dyche’s Clarets have scored the fewest home league goals this season, with just two efforts. But his defence have been typically miserly: only Liverpool and Manchester United have allowed fewer goals than the two conceded by Burnley.

Meanwhile, Newcastle arrive boasting just three away goals, only Everton and Crystal Palace have scored fewer.

Their goalkeeper, Rob Elliot, is the most owned player on show this evening. Now part of 26.4% of squads, the Magpies custodian trails only David De Gea (39.2%) in that respect. However, some 62% of Elliot’s 1.4 million owners keep him on the bench for Gameweek 10.

Stephen Ward has become the go-to option in the Burnley defence. The left-back is now owned by 14.7% of managers having already produced a goal and two assists this season, alongside three clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          I think if he's back on Wed then it was a precaution rather than a "proper" injury so will play on Sun too.

          If he doesn't play on Wed I'd be surprised if he's fit for the weekend as suggests a genuine hamstring injury.

          Defenders seem to get all the stick though (hardly surprising given some of the errors). Playing 4 at the back with Henderson in front is so different to say Toby-Sanchez-Vert with Dier or Wanyama holding.

          With Liverpool's fantastic attacking players playing 5 at the back with a half-decent holding player would surely play to Clyne/Moreno strengths too?

          Bench Mee. I have exactly the same issue, but the chances of CHE-MUN being 0-0 are pretty high. Or play them all and bench an attacker. SOT-BUR could also be low-scoring.

      Appreciate all the responses, looks I need to take the week to think about this one. My worry is that Mourinho pulls his usual 0-1 away from home so I think I'll either be benching Mee or Aspi... all my attackers have really good fixtures.
