We roll out the next instalment of our weekly article for Members this evening, offering an in-depth statistical analysis of the main captaincy contenders for the set of fixtures ahead. This week, more than most, getting the armband call correct looks crucial β given that all of our featured five have acquired at least 12% of the votes cast in the Gameweek 16 Captain Poll, opinion looks split right across the board. Time to delve into the data, thenβ¦
was thinking of captaining hazard but you guys are saying he wont even pay 90 mins lol ..
rooney
suarez
aguero
who to captain ?Open ControlsJust inclination mate, he very may well stay on the pitch for the full 90. That said - I have SAR and Haz too and am going with Rooney this weekend.
Open Controlsaye mate .. better safe than sorry lol ..
hope rooney tears them a new one this weekend lolOpen Controls
I'm going Hazard over those 3....if Utd play half as bad as they did last night, it's hard to see Rooney getting much other than a yellow in frustration
Open Controlswhat about Aguero .. hes beenwell rested and will be choking to play.. always turns up on the big games
Open Controls
Glen and williams to evans and martin olsson?
Give me funds to do sess to silva next week
Will result in
Pantilimon mcgregor
Coleman evans olsson ward burner
Ozil hazard silva ramsey ravel
Suarez kun lukaku
Worth it?Open ControlsWould want absolutely no part in Manu defense regardless of fixtures - would rather double up on Distin. But like the overall plan!
Open Controls
What are the odds for spurs to finish top 4? i know its crazy but i think they can do it
Open ControlsNot very worthwhile odds. Looking at a few sites, 9/4 seems the norm.
Open Controls
Did Hazard and Ozil play well today?
Open ControlsWhere does Ramsey feature in your January wildcards? I've been playing around with options and none of them include him. Thing is, what to do about a player you don't want but has 62% ownership?! At the minute I'm picking him out of fear more than anything else. I'm going to pull the trigger and hope his output goes down after Xmas while the likes of Silva, Walcott and Hazard raise their game - or maintain in the case of the latter.
Open ControlsSee how he goes in the next 3 GWs ... if his form is going to slip it will do so from now until January
Open ControlsIt's hard. Because he's risen in value so much since i bought him. It means if i don't choose him i have about £1M worth of quality less to spend
Open ControlsHow do you manage to buy Silva,Walcott or Hazard with your Ramsey money? Bit of a strange post hoping your cheap player fails so you can struggle to buy a more expensive one.
Open Controlsagree with wad u sae! how i wish ramsey will stay good as he is if not i will have to punt on mid price midfielders which are not exactly doing too well atm except cabaye
Open ControlsYou don't, it just gives you options if other mids are firing. A lot of people have Ramsey just to cover his points and are expecting his output to go down at some point. It isn't, which is annoying. For me it just feels like no gain or loss when he scores as his ownership is so high. However, if the 3 mentioned pricier mids were to go on a run it wouldake things more interesting as people would look to perhaps go 3 heavy hitters plus 2 cheapies.
Open Controls
Suarez has been now been credited with the last goal against West Ham, originally marked as an OG. Will he be credited on fantasy too? Unlikely I suppose.
Open ControlsAnyone want to take a stab at Chelseas team on sat?lol
Open Controls4 players in Man city Arsenal game. Quite tempted to take a hit to reduce this a bit. Mertesacker or Nasri would be the obvious ones to go.
Open ControlsBe carefull...move the season ticker to GW 18 and look at the fixtures for both teams.

How does my team look for this week guys?
------------ Mignolet ------------
Evra McAuley Terry Walker
-Nasri Sessegnon Ramsey-

Bench: 4M, Ward Prowse, Chester, Delph
£2M in bank. 0FT remainingOpen ControlsThat midfield! Too much spent in defense for my liking, I can't see Spurs keeping Liverpool out, I think Cardiff will put one past West Brom and United defenders are a waste of money at the moment.
Sorry ... honest answerOpen ControlsChester at home to Stoke is appealing.
I'd do McAuley > Chester
Walker > DelphOpen ControlsI like the honesty - not too pleased with the midfield myself.
Delph's suspended this week, but i might play Chester. Walker has attacking qualities too, which are keeping him there at the momentOpen ControlsAh yes, I forgot about Delph, apologies. Walker ain't too bad, he always has attacking threat. I wouldn't be taking out Nasri either, long-term look at shifting Sess and a defender and upgrading WP or Delph.
Sess > Redmond
Walker > Burner / Gabbidon
Delph > Hazard / OscarOpen ControlsCheers Eagles. Will be doing something along these lines over the next few weeks. Just trying to stutter up to the wildcard window without too much damage.
Open Controls
You certainly formatted it well. 10/10 for presentation.
Open ControlsIt disguises the dodgy midfield! Should i be taking a hit to do Nasri -> Hazard?
Open ControlsHmmm tricky one. Probably not worth it. If I were you I'd be looking to downgrade defence and do Sess-->Hazard, Nasri-->Silva over the next couple of weeks. Doing one for a hit now might be worth it in the long run. Hard to say really.
Open ControlsThank you very much - will have a good think about it. Always knew i had an unbalanced squad, but ignored the problem because it did well up until the last couple of gameweeks. Cheers!
Open Controls
MF is pretty weak. I don't think the play is to load up in defense as all the big guys are iffy at the back. Would look to ship Terry, walker meh just ship them all.
Open ControlsIt did well in the first 11 weeks, and lifted me to 70K. But struggling with the defence recently - not a single clean sheet last week

- GW16 Captain Analysis
To save all those "who should I captain?" questions, here's how I see the main runners going into the weekend.
1. Aguero
A run of 12, 2, 13, 7, 18, 15, 1 in Sergio Aguero's home fixtures tells you all you need to know. That's an average of 9.7 PPG. Things just seem to be going City's way also; Silva returning to fitness, a confidence boosting win at the Alliance Arena and Arsenal, their next opponents, slipping up against Napoli. Only the Gunners' league leading defensive record gives pause for thought. Yet consider that while City rested many of their first choice 11 against Bayern yesterday, Wenger chose to bench just Ramsey. Given the midday Saturday kick off, fatigue may well be a factor.
2. Rooney
Wane Rooney's away form 8, 5, 1, 12, 11, 13 (an average of 8.3 PPG) is arguably more impressive given United's stuttering performances. United's prospects away to Villa are boosted by the return of Van Persie leading the line, allowing Rooney to see more of the ball in a deeper lying role. However, despite United badly needing the quality of Van Persie back in the side, we must temper this with the impact it has on Rooney. On the one hand, Van Persie will occupy defenders and have the ability to pick out Rooney from pretty much anywhere on the pitch; on the other, Rooney will be asked to link United's attack with their more workman-like centre midfield pairing of Cleverly and Jones.
Villa will be without their captain, Ron Vlaar, who organises them at the back, and will be missing the influence and guile of Fabian Delph who has been playing well of late but who misses out due to picking up 5 bookings.
3. Suarez
Luis Suarez is on fire right now. Having scored 14 league goals (and created 7 more) in just 10 appearances, he is simply unplayable in most games this season. With an injury to Daniel Sturridge and Liverpool out of European competition, there is little to no threat of rotation - Suarez goes into the weekend encounter with Spurs at White Hart Lane well rested.
An auto-captain for many, the only fly in his ointment is Liverpool's away record. Liverpool have not won away in the league since the 29th September, Suarez scoring 2 in a 3-1 win at Sunderland. Only 1 away goal and assist has followed since then. Without Sturridge and now Gerrard, it remains to be seen whether Suarez can engineer enough chances against one of the toughest home defences. In his favour, he may well be on more set piece duty including spot kicks.
4. Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku goes into the home fixture with Fulham having provided fantasy returns in his last 4 matches. An unenviable schedule of LIV, STK, mun, ars, that saw 100k owners sell before he returned a brace against Liverpool, has provided a consistent source of points for those who remained loyal. Everton and Lukaku entertain Fulham on Saturday with both form and fixtures very much on their side.
Lukaku is not more highly placed here, due to a perceived lack of explosiveness and consistency. While he has returned double figure scores twice at home this season, he has flattered to deceive against favoured opposition of the likes of Crystal Palace and Hull. However, Lukaku may well have spot kick duties in the continued absence of Leighton Baines.
Hope this is helpful over and above the stats in the article. πOpen Controlsnice one dude
Open ControlsStarted writing this when the article was on page 1 of comments π
Open Controls
Ha, you had me double checking! There's a few typos in there but thankfully the stats are A-OK π
Open ControlsIt's true! He got awarded the goal that was an O.G. at the weekend by the dubious goal panel today.
Open ControlsI know, but that's not reflected in the fantasy points (and that's all that matters ;-)). In real life, yes, 1 more goal and 1 less assist!
Open Controls
Correction - on the Suarez stats, he's provided 3 assists since Sep 29th, not 1 (as Tommy correctly mentions in the article).
Open Controls
Decent round up. You forgot Rooneys low ownership vs the field so could be a great chart topper if things go his way.
Open ControlsTrue - that's one of those factors that will be a positive for some, but a negative (especially as a captain pick) for others.
I was going to write a piece on Hazard too but I was taking too long. Maybe tomorrow!Open Controls
Good comment TS and a nice idea to reduce the, who to captain posts? But that was why the Captains Poll was started.
For those who were going to ask it just gave them another line of questioning.
"I was thinking this or that, but the captains poll says this? I'm afraid we are destined to never stop the,
"Who to Captain"? questions. Maybe that is a big part of FFS's draw for some.Open ControlsHey Flynn. Saw some comments from Breadbin and a few others earlier confessing to how they sabotage the captain poll with their votes. Now, I know that many more vote honestly and this dilutes the rogue votes but hey.
Not trying to make anything redundant with my post. I just thought I'd jot down my musings on the main captain contenders I'm considering this week, in the order I rate them.Open Controls
Good one TS.
To add some points: Tottenham will play without Vertonghen, Chiriches (50/50), Kaboul, so then they have Walker, Dawson, Naughton, Rose, and Fryers in DFs.
They played Capoue in DF last week vs Sunderland.
Liverpool still have Coutinho.
Probably this can increase the appeal of Suarez? πOpen ControlsNice one, didn't realise Spurs were so depleted at the back. The performance in the Europa league tonight will give us a good idea of their form, plus I really rate Chiriches and think he may be back in time for the weekend.
Still, there are certainly a lot of positives there for Suarez(C)-ers. It almost feels like pushing my luck to captain him 3 weeks running though and to expect returns!Open Controls
Luis Suarez Upcoming fixtures..
tot - played 5 scored 1
che - played 5 scored 2
mci - played 4 scored 1
Only one of those scored was away, at Stamford Bridge.
If there's no Gerrard or Sturridge there's significantly less delivery.
He's incredible no doubt but he's not playing Norwich every week (11goals in 5).
