Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Fifth Round Draw

We’ve reached the Fifth Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, this weekend, and are on the lookout for a new face to lift the silverware after our two remaining previous winners, Goonerdave and sleepingmaster, were both eliminated:

Pryston North End FC and Albany City were the respective victors and will now take on Team Hayemaker and ec3dm over Gameweek 17. We’re also keeping an eye on Hillbillypete – having knocked out current champion Wild Rover, he continue to remain in with a shout of the silverware and is up against site regular The Sarjeant in the Fifth Round.

Our site moderator, Applebonkers, is also in the hat and is something of an underdog for the weekend, with his opponent BJ sitting just inside the top 5,000. Tony Hibbert’s Love Child is the top-ranked manager in this week’s draw – sitting in 570th overall, he now squares up to Nepalock.

Looking at some of the site regulars, Malcolm Tucker for England manager is up against 11 Men in Flight, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad will pit his wits against TOMDN, while 2ndMan is up against mickey30101985 for a place in the last 32.

As always, we name-check the highest scoring manager from the previous round. Both Michu at De Gea Bar and Andy Paps achieved this accolade, with 97 points apiece, and will now go head-to-head with Son of Rambo and dino_dem next time around.

The lowest-scoring team to advance to the Fifth Round belongs to Mr T. He’ll be hoping to improve upon a score of 63 points as he prepares to do battle with heco87.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Fifth Round details.

Once again, good luck to those still in with a shout.

Bad luck man. Hate it when that happens.

In a similar vein, I was playing football manager last night and was finding it a bit tedious. Then my two main strikers got injured and out for the season and four other players caught a 'severe viral infection' and out for 2 weeks.

I'm still playing a really old version haha 2011 I think. I found out 3-5-2 is the way to go. Teams are usually piss poor at attacking so three defenders is fine and gives you an extra man to sort out your piss poor attack haha

The two times I have not captained Suarez this year resulted with him getting 22 or 24 points.

Suarez is my perma-captain forever; which means he will never hit those totals again.

I am selling Ramsey this week I think 😯

Ozil + Walcott will surely out score him. Ramsey is in the vast majority of teams for good reason, but now with added team value is now the time to sell?

He is a constant in every team and a reason that people won't have both Ozil and Walcott unless they are mad enough to get all 3. Walcott has been king fpl for a couple seasons now and I do fancy Ozil to kick on from now. Just speculating but I also think Walcott in the team does keep Ramsey in a deeper position.

Am I kidding myself or could this be a good way to jump up the rankings?

Also with Ozil + Walcott you get every set piece going. I still think Ramsey will be a good option for the record, just think the other 2 will score more and a lot won't have both Ozil + Walcott

      Depends on what you like.

I enjoyed now you see me, but you have to like cheesey entertainment (and ignore the last but 1 scene)

Fast and furious 6 for pure no brainer guff

Superman isn't a great version (to much punching if unlike able men) but a decent superhero flick

2013 seems a bit lacking of classics to be honest.

Ahh Oblivion was VERY good, if 1 too many sci-fi cliches. But definitely worth a watch.

Saving Mr Banks is also good, and Sweet. Along with song for Marion if you like emotional softie films.

      So there we go

Yes why not? Hazard's good run coincided with good fixtures. People then forget that and assume he is essential. All about dropping before a bad run, not allowing it to happen out of loyalty.

    Morning guys!
I'm concerned that I have only three defenders who are playing. Clyne injured and Rosenior game time very limited. Would you take a hit to ditch Clyne or Rosenior as I already used FT to take out Aguero?

    Defence looks like this:
    Mertesacker, Terry, Coleman, Clyne, Rosenior

Clyne -> Ward, Burner, Murner? (-4)
Rosenior -> Ward, Burner, Murner? (-4)
Or just stick and take no hit. Thanks in advance!

Just a repost from last night...Plenty of trolling re Negredo losing minutes to Dzeko potentially....so...It was a commonly held belief that Aguero played slightly behind Negredo who occupied an old fashioned CF spot...but it wasn't true. A quick look at the comparison tool (avg position) will show it was in fact the other way around...I can see no reason why Pell won't just do a straight swap, Aguero> Dzeko and play both Negredo and Dzeko together...here is the avg positions for last weekends game....http://talksport.com/football/premier-league/match/2013-12-14/manchester-city-v-arsenal

Average positions can often be misleading, it makes lazier players look extremely attacking. I'd wager Negredo does a lot more tracking back/defensive work and helps out at set-pieces a lot more than Aguero. Same deal with for example, Walcott and Giroud.

Yeah a fair point for Aguero...but in Negredo's case he is far from the CF we have in our minds eye when we think of the City line up...he's further behind even than Silva and that's been going on for a while...Negredo and Dzeko to start together for me...

Again, Silva isn't the top of player to go back and help the defence out.

Average position is one thing but it's clear Aguero is often involved in the build up of play, he can pick out a pass and dribble through 3-4 players, Dzeko can't. IIRC Dzeko and Negredo started up front against Aston Villa early in the season and they were terrible.

IMO Navas-Silva-Nasri will be behind Negredo, but who knows?

It's more the fact Arsenal are playing the other 6 in the top 7 from last season. Not easy fixtures.
