Captain Sensible – Gameweek 10

Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Under normal circumstances, Diego Costa would be the runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll but, as we know, things are not quite straightforward when it comes to Jose Mourinho. Nonetheless, having returned to training yesterday, faith in the Chelsea striker is building and he leads the way ahead of a plum home clash with a QPR defence that have shipped at least two goals in all four of their road trips. After scoring in each of his four home appearances, Costa leads the way with 29% of the votes cast so far.

Elsewhere for Chelsea, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have earned 9% and 6% of the votes cast. The latter has been the most consistent, with a goal or assist in seven of his nine appearances, though Hazard delivered a double-figure haul in his previous match at the Bridge and has spot-kick duties to fall back on.

Alexis Sanchez sits in second as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Burnley. Subject to huge investment this week after taking his tally to five goals in his last six appearances with a brace against Sunderland, the Chilean has been backed by 20% heading into the weekend. Over 5% have opted for Danny Welbeck, though his form is a little disconcerting – he’s picked up points in only two of his six appearances since arriving in north London.

In third spot, Sergio Aguero remains firmly in our thoughts in spite of a surprise blank against West Ham. Up against a United defence that have picked up just three points on their travels, the Argentine has persuaded over 14% to hand him the armband – although his four-goal haul against Spurs is fresh in the memory, Aguero has stuttered at the Etihad and has scored in only two of his four home matches.

Further down, the likes of Graziano Pelle and Raheem Sterling are still in contention ahead of trips to Hull and Newcastle. Pelle has picked up points in six of his previous seven now and stands atop the Fantasy Premier League standings on 59 points, though the Tigers have tightened up since reverting to a three-man backline and have kept out their opponents in two of their last three. Sterling, with just two assists in the previous four, will be optimistic of returning to form against a Magpies backline with a single shut-out in seven.

Plenty more will be getting in Pelle anyway, hopefully he can go 3 games and if does on a the third one it makes who to transfer out easier.

Decided i'm getting rid of Adm for Hazard/Costa.. Dont like Manutd's away games until Jan at all and i want to get some chelsea attack in as i cant go longer without.. So

    Krulliott
    Terry Baines Clyne Duff Yun
    Eriksen Tadic Sterling Siggy Adm
    Aguero Welbeck VARDY
    1 million and 1 FT

Need help choosing the direction i head in
    A) Adm to Hazard this week and get Sakho for Vardy next week and continue without Costa(dont wanna lose Aguero or Welbeck who i got @6.9)
    B) Adm + Vardy to Costa + Boyd(-4)

    1. Zasa

Don't fancy either tbh, not keen at all on selling AdM right as Rooney an Co arrive.
In due time, that midfield will need some transfers in & out before Tadic's bad run

Though if you insist, the latter might bag less points short term, but long term that profit you make on going w/ Boyd & 343 will reward you.

      B for me

Looks good - barring injuries I'd the say the weak link may be Siggy over the next few gameweeks. Potetntial injury risk due to troublesome groin injury and tough fixtures. You can consider bringing in Mane/Chadli/Downing (in that order for me) now or in the coming weeks.

Looking for some help here and happy to return the favour for your team

    0.5 ITB, 1FT

    A) Hutton -> Alcaraz (keeps my team in good shape for the GW)
    B) Fab -> Hazard (A little punty, but expecting a Hazard explosion going fwd)
    C) Other (anything else you'd suggest)
    D) Save

    GP:Guzan (Given)
DEF: Chambers / Wisdom / Hutton (Dummett, Duff)
MID: ADM / Fab / Sanchez / Chadli (Obertan)
FWD: Aguero / Costa / Pelle

Thanks for help with my team, would do Welbeck -> Berahino if Arsenal wouldn't play Burnley at home 🙂 I might do Siggy, ADM -> Downing Sanchez though.

Your team looks really good, I think A and B are the best options. I would do B personally, but that's really close.

Oh, and i would prefer to have someone with ensured game time as my 5th mid, not sure i can say it about Obertan 😉

I'd keep Fab he continues to deliver every week and get pts on the board. Hazard always plays well but inst always converting performances to pts, which is what its all about.

Tbh I'd save FT, the way your team is set up is v top heavy which could well pay off. Could maybe have a bit more balance in defence but this would take away from the big guns up top.

Opinions on one to bench this week...

    1) Diame (SAINTS)
    2) Siggy (everton)
    3) Zaha (SUNDERLAND)

    Cheers

Is this too close to call?

    1) Berahino/Sakho + Sanchez

    Or

    2) Costa + Downing

Any chance Bellerin will be picked ahead of Monreal against Burnley?
