Selection

Metro Tips – Gameweek Ten

Gameweek Ten rolls on with our brief heads-up to Managers in the Metro Fantasy Football game that our “Picks” for the weekend are now live.

Once more we have chosen three “Bankers”, two “Punts” and one form player who has been “Bubbling Under” and threatens a major points haul. This week’s selections can be found here, but, as usual, we’d like to take this opportunity to mention a couple of players on the periphery who may also be worthy of consideration…

Unsurprisingly, there are some obvious selections who miss out, simply because team-mates offer stronger alternatives. Samir Nasri plays second fiddle to the maestro Cesc Fabregas, but remains a very promising proposition at home to the lowly Hammers; the same can be said for Dimitar Berbatov, looking to put his old club Spurs to the sword at Old Trafford in his usual languid, shoulder shrugging way.

It’s the “Punts” that spark the gamblers chance of course and, as always, there are plenty of contenders who just missed the cut. I see Richard Dunne burying the ghost of Gameweek last and notching strong defensive returns in Sunday’s local derby, while recent Watchlist favourite, Kevin Nolan, may turn some of his promising shooting stats into points in his own derby encounter against the Black Cats. I’ve also got an unhealthy hunch about Louis Saha’s prospects – 75% fit and in line to feature at home to Stoke.

Metro Managers can of course ignore these outlandish predictions and head on over to this link to discover which six men earned this week’s nominations.

I think there's an awful lot of kneejerking going on this gameweek.

Tevez out, Hernandez or Chamakh in is one of the biggest ones.

Most people have made a good profit on Tevez, and now he's missing one game away from home, everybody is just panicking and getting rid. The options for replacement are shaky at best. It's almost as bad as the people dropping Drogba after he was sick for one gameweek.

Chamakh's place in the team is soon to be under threat. He hasn't exactly burst into life in the league either, and his goalscoring record is poor. Ditching Tevez for him, even short term is a gamble, and actually, a gamble that will likely not pay off. Tevez could return the week after at West Brom (A). So in theory, you're throwing all your eggs on Chamakh scoring really well this week, because after that, he really doesn't have a patch on Tevez in terms of fantasy scoring potential.

Hernandez likewise is a rotation risk. Rooney coming back soon, and SAF sometimes playing 4-5-1 will see him drop to the bench. He's a slightly better option in my opinion, and for the hit taker, he'd be worth a punt, especially since he's cheap, and the money can be saved for midfield.

It's still a big gamble, and at this stage of the season, there's really no need for that. Still a long way to go. Tevez is only out for a week going by current reports. One week.

If it's two weeks and a doubt for the next one, then maybe consider replacing him, but replacements should usually not be straight swaps. Money saved in one position is money gained elsewhere. Two at a time to make full use of the budget (preferably free if saved up).

Come on people, don't jerk away for unnecessary hits!

I dont think its only the injury. Its also the talk of him needing a rest. Also, with Balotelli back now, no one quite knows how that will affect Tevez. Thats alot of uncertainty for 11 million.

he is taking 2 weeks off effectively.. that is a rest.

Balotelli is an uncertainty, a complete nutcase.
Tevez is fantasy gold and plays for one of the top teams this season. Absolutely essential

Yes i think Balotelli is an uncertainty but Mancini obviously likes him and pretty much has staked his career on Balotelli's success, so I can see him playing alot. Maybe out wide on the Right?
Not sure, but if there's any doubt with Tevez' injury I think Manshitty can afford to rest him.

I can afford to see him drop 0.1 without a sell-on loss.

For people that bought him at 10.4 who already have Fabregas and a free transfer(s) left, then transferring him out might be the right move, but as it is for most people, you'll need to take a hit to replace him, and it's an unnecessary risk.

Yo Camzy - in my size 10's would you sell? Bought him last week on my wildcard of woe for 10.9, he's up to 11 but surely he'll drop to 10.9 again this week eh?

Since you have Fabregas, have free transfers, no value loss, and a bench that isn't going to score you anything, I'd seriously consider getting him out if I were you.

              Options I'd think about:

Carroll - budget and main striker for Newcastle.
              Elmander - safe choice
              Hernandez - slightly risky

This is one I've been toying with myself but haven't got the resolve to go ahead with.

              Balotelli

As someone said earlier though, Mancini stuck his neck out for Mario, and will play him. The big question is, will he be able to score goals in this league?

Your choice depends on how much risk you want to take.

You still have the base option too of sticking with Tevez and saving a transfer if you want a more informed decision next week.

        But Tevez is worth it.

His goalscoring record is phenomenal, and he's on setpieces and penalties which makes him fixture proof.

For me, it's worth holding onto him, at least for another two weeks to see what happens. He IS Manchester City, and I think Balotelli coming back will actually help him, because he needs a strike partner.

Believe me, if it looks like he's going off form, or getting rested regularly, or something like that, he's out of my team, but as it stands, it's not worth getting rid of him for only one week of injury delay.

Very easy to preach like that Camzy when you already have Nasri and doubtless Fabregas. I would be dropping Tevez to get Fabs in, do you suggest I leave it then and go without both?

Getting Fabregas in is a different ballgame.

You need him in, so lowering on just about anyone is acceptable.

I was talking about people taking hits just to get Tevez out even though they already have Fabregas in.

In your team, I would get rid of Tevez to fund a move from Bale to Fabregas.

            A move like

            Tevez > Elmander
            Bale > Fabregas

Bullseye!! Thats why I need Tevez out. My other option is an 8 pointer Tevez - Hernandez, Bale - Nasri, Malouda - Fabs. Risk and leaves me with money to upgrade a defender to Kolarov in the future thus allowing me to downgrade Hart.

I'm not sure it's wise actually.

                Malouda and Elmander

                VS

                Hernandez and Nasri

Hernandez and Nasri look much more short-term.

    Nani, Adam, Malouda, VDV, Nasri

I'm going to be controversial and say Nzog instead of Malouda
Also, doubt Bos will start, so possible 1 pointer there...

Yeah check Bosingwa situation later, looks like he will be on the bench. You should really swap Perch for Simpson when you get the chance

(dumb and dumber quote) "so you're saying there's a chance?"

great news if he makes it. a bit of hope at last and at least some reassurance that if not this match he'll be back for the next game

it's the s on the end of players as much as the black instead of blank. hugely embarrassed but kinda proud how it turned out 😉
my typing is getting worryingly wayward in recent weeks. i always seem to type tevez - teevz, from - form, drogba - dorgba.

it could also tunr out to be a big stroke of fortune that the game is on the monday. not expecting fireworks if he makes it as there will be rust to shake off, but with blackpool's defence there's always a chance

Anyone think I'm crazy to play DJ over Flo Mo?

Adam possibly being out would mean it could be irrelevant.. And DJ's supply chain would also be reduced if so.

Maybe I've just talked myself out of it and its best to play safe this time.

a little bit crazy. their respective fixtures make it a valid quandry but it's still backing dj campbell over malouda which at least imo doesn't seem right

I know what you mean apple. I tried it out and looked at the screen and it simply didn't look right.

As for Adam being potentially out, its only stitches - Hes harder than that isn't he?

I seem to recall he smashed a free kick AFTER he was bleeding to death last week before Holloway chucked in the towel and took his star man off being 2-0 down.

Malouda was the only droppable one - Drogba, Carroll up top. Nani, Cesc, VDV, Adam in mid. I fancy VDV at OT so could the DJ please sit down.

ahh fair enough. in order of droppability i'd personally have dj 1st, vdv 2nd, malouda 3rd. go with you gut, it's helped you to 4 top 5k finishes including 3 in the top 1k. i still wet my pants at the 12k barrier

even if adam plays dj campbell hasn't exactly been clinical this season. only saw MOTD but as far as i saw it adam just had a nasty gash (ooh kinky) and played on to the end. cut's don't keep players out of matches

    Foster
    Bosingwa Elmohamady Coleman
    Malouda Nasri Bale Nani Adam
    Carroll Drogba (c)

    Bench: Hahnemann, Konchesky, Perch, Tevez
    Bank: 1.7

I'm in the situation now that Bosingwa, Malouda, Bale, Adam, Perch and Tevez could all not play.
Suggestions? I have no free transfers left :(.

Tevez and Barton out Fabregas and DJ. Campbell in or

Tevez and Malouda out Fabregas and Berbatov in (I have a hunch about Berbatov)?

What to do? First option means I will bench DJ. and play Malouda, the second one means I will play Berbatov and bench Barton.

    Help needed.

I quite fancy Berbatov more than Malouda in the next 2 games. Plus I will have the same balance on my team. The problem will be GW 12 and GW13. But then I could buy RVP or Tevez back. Hmmmm... really struggling.

Its been doing my head in making the decision too.

If you fancy Berbatov then keep him, end of.

If you did the option I took then we'd have the same front 8. I think it works well. Carroll and DJ rotate well presuming you play the 5 in mid every week. May bench Flo Mo at Brum and bring DJ in - But thats thinking a bit ahead, plenty of variables to be chucked in to the mix before then.

Buying RVP won't be an option that soon I don't think. Tevez on the other hand..

I am definitely taking the following 4 point hit to get Fabs in.

    OUT Ethers & Tevez
    IN Fabs & Dembele

Question is, and I really cannot decide, shall I spend an extra 4 points to afford Hernandez instead of Dembele. The extra transfer would be Faye > Simpson.

    Thanks
