The Big Numbers – Gameweek Twenty Three

With the Gameweek settled and the Reebok woodwork still reverberating from the efforts of a luckless Robin Van Persie, it’s time for our Members to soak up a selection of key stats from our Opta data. As usual, we’ve also thrown in our take on how the Fantasy Premier League bonus could pan out…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Played my WC this week, and I'm currently staring at a front 8 of:

    Silva Sessegnon Bale Valencia Dempsey
    Aguero RvP Ba

As sexy as this looks, I think I'm going to downgrade one of the above to either James Morrison or Sigurdsson, seeing as I can't play 2-5-3.

    Who would you drop?

If you can think of a better alternative to the two I've proposed, then would be all ears on that too 😀

You could just bench Dempsey, but I understand your hesitance at having to make a decision like that week in week out...

I too have a similar quandary, and will consider downgrading Sess to McClean soon now that Sunderlands fixtures have dried up...

And it leaves you with money to boost your defense...

ok sorry to distract from yr wc dilemma
I have the power 5 too so I feel yr pain with the need to have a solid 5 mil mid
weirdly enough, silva is the only annoying member of the 5 but yr not dropping him
was gonna ship in dzeko but maybe not now
I'm thinking zamora for ade instead - so aguero to zamora might be yr option then you can spend big on three attacking defs + caulker and taiwo/santon

Morning lads. Word of warning, our clean sheet last night was down to inept finishing, rather than good defending. Another team (or even blackburn with yakubu) would have put a few past us.

Ba should start on saturday, we really are toothless without him

Don't think we will see Barfa starting for a while. He was very poor first half. I expect perch to continue in centre mid with raylor on the right until tiote comes back.

We were VERY lucky to win. But i'll take any sort of victory, considering we were without half a team (saylor, tiote, cabaye, ba, cisse). I know that Man Utd and Arsenal have been missing loads of players too. But they have champions league quality back up. We have shola ameobi and james perch!!

Only 3 points from 4th spot!!

I would double up. IF perch plays defensive mid, we'll be pretty solid. But then I don't have a problem with doubling up. I will always consider defenders individually. ie disregard the fact that you have Krul in goal, who is more likely to keep a clean sheet, santon at home to villa, or caulker away to west brom? I know a lot of people avoid doubling up, in case that team concedes. I think that's stupid really. I would only avoid doubling up, if you really can't separate the two players. Then its best to spread your bets.

Anomaly. A game played out like that will 95% of the time have at least one goal (Bolton could well have scored, Arsenal hit the post twice, Mert had an offline clearance, Walcott couldn't finish one on one and numerous other half chances)

3 cs in 5 can't be argued with either. The reports I'm reading suggest MON has got them organised at the back.

It's either Mignolet or a SUN defender and most of the likely suspects are crocked or a crocking waiting to happen. 😕

        Hi Elninio 🙂

Those stats that Mark put up on Tony V did not make him an attractive prospect. I'm going to make a judgement call and say that Tony V is going to turn into a barren cow before long.

Same. Those stats aren't too appealing but he is producing the goods.

Also, good chance he may return at RB with United's injury concerns at the back, with Young/Nani back next week.

          Traditional fixtures-form dilemma.

I'm taking a risk with 2 City defenders & I'll get Kun if he shows the slightest of form before the delicious 2 home games.

HAHA those fixtures are SUPER tempting to ignore him. It would take some balls on my side to not keep him in my WC draft too. But I'm considering 2 City defs + Silva, with lots of mid-priced strikers on display with good fixtures.

Well its an opportunity cost problem. I could potentially have 2 City defenders at Kun's cost, who is a luxury for a non-form player.

              Other reasons:
              1) I trust BZ/Cisse's/Ba/Studge/Yak to do well in this period of City's good fixtures.
              2) I don't trust Fulham/Stoke defence. That only leaves City, New & Utd to capture those CS.

It doesn't make sense. You don't trust Fulham defence and this is why you'll opt for ManC defence? For me, this is the reason why I'll go for ManC attack!

Couldn’t believe my housemate won the paddy power cup, third in our league but always nails his h2hs 😡

Anyhoo, Im taking over my mate’s inactive team and messing about with the wc. Team value is just 102.2 so its pretty limited..team is currently:

    Krul,Vorm
    Kompany, Shawcross, Simpson, Caulker, Kelly
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, McClean
RVP, Ba, Morisson - 0.2 in Bank

How would you guys change it about? Any chance of closing down couple hundred points to climb up the mini league table and piss people off along the way? 8)

Yeah, my plan was to ditch Sess for uber McClean as the two of them are overkill. However, I suspect MON is getting the best out of Sess and his OOP potential is a real boni.

Plus the lack of midpark options aids his inclusion also.

              No problem-o!

This is what I have so far:

              Vorm/Krul

Bad K Enr Shotton Kelly Simpson

              Sess Demps Bale Silva Dyer

              Ba RVP Aguerro

              For me, the issues are:

Keep JE or bin for say, Evans?

              Mignolet or Vorm?

I have a team that is based around City so Bad K, Silva and Ag are musts imo.

Methinks Shotton is out of contention now. Wilko is nailed on at RB for 3.9 or you could try Vorm > Mign & Shotton > Caulker

Ahh awesome. First week after surgery? Good luck on that front.

Yeah the expected happened with Pennant returning to the fore. Anyways Stoke won't keep too many CS with their hectic schedule of squeezing Europa/FA with the PL. They are no-go as far as I'm concerned.

                    Same case for me.

In an ideal scenario where Liv don't get CS until GW29, he should drop in price to 5.7ish or lower, which would meaning losing 0.2. Not bad, imo. It's all about points after all, this game 😀

This site puts others to shame, I've smoked my mini league for years and now that the fantasy epl site directly links this sites content I'm in a total dogfight...this site is AWESOME but I wish my competitors didn't know about it.

Hey guys, really need some ideas on how to get Ba in and reorganize my defence over the next few GWs. One option is doing Evans->Kelly and Welbeck->Ba but I have this stupid blind faith in Evans and he hasn't disappointed much considering how much he costs for a ManUtd defender. Don't want to take hits unless absolutely necessary.

    Vorm Kenny
    Richards Evans Simpson Caulker McAuley
    Silva Bale Dempsey Sess Moses
    RVP Aguero Welbeck

    0.2 in the bank

Morning all. Would love some input on the 2 options im currently looking at-

A- IN Evans, Kompany, Cisse OUT Jones, Skertel, Helgusson

B- IN Kompany, Buzaky, Ba OUT Jones, Sess, Helgusson

    Team as it currently is-

    Krul/Ruddy
    Jones/ Skertel/Kelly/ Williamson/McAuley
    Silva/ Bale/ Sess/ Murphy/ Valencia
    RVP/ Aguero/ Helgusson

I had B in mind all week but Cisse with good fixtures would give a nice differential as im about 50 points behind the league leader.

    Any thoughts much appreciated!

What happened to your sneaky feeling of "I sense another penalty save"? 😉

In fairness to the lad he was up against TOT ARS CHE in his last 3 home games, and you can't expect them to get cleanies away, which is why you rotate him...

The only time you'd expect a CS was at home to QPR...

I think your making a mistake getting rid, but good luck nonetheless...

I looked at SUN v SWN for the rest of the season. They both have the same no of unfavourable fixtures at home.

What you have to bear in mind is that SUN are a top 10 team and SWN, I see as relegation fodder about to decline due to lack of resources.

It's a call I take total responsibility for making.

Aguero Sturridge and RVP up front. I've got a feeling that won't be being touched all season now.
