Van Persie to be Assessed for Liverpool Game

Robin Van Persie will be assessed prior to Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool. Thomas Vermaelen also has a problem for the Gunners. Wayne Rooney is back for United, though Antonio Valencia remains sidelined. Jonny Howson could be in line for his first game for Norwich, while Jamie O’Hara is willing to play through the pain barrier for Wolves:

Arsene Wenger was full of information for Fantasy managers this morning, though some of it we perhaps didn’t want to hear. The Arsenal boss revealed Robin Van Persie “has a little groin problem we will have to assess”, ahead of the trip to Liverpool tomorrow. Van Persie played the first half for Holland in midweek and was initially considered a doubt for the friendly against England due to the same problem- the fact that he participated will give Fantasy managers confidence of his availability for Anfield, though.

Thomas Vermaelen also has a “problem” that needs to be assessed, according to Wenger. In midfield, Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out, Abou Diaby is available once again, while Thomas Rosicky has a groin problem but is expected to be available, according to his manager. Wenger also revealed Andre Santos is on the mend and is expected back in a fortnight’s time from an ankle injury.

Wayne Rooney is back in the United squad for the trip to White Hart Lane. The forward missed out last weekend in the 2-1 win at Norwich but has now recovered from a throat infection. Antonio Valencia and Tom Cleverley will both miss out, however, while Chris Smalling is a doubt after his clash of heads with Dutch striker Jan Klaas Huntelaar in midweek. Sir Alex Ferguson also revealed Michael Owen is back in training ahead of Sunday’s afternoon showdown.

Jonny Howson could be set for his Norwich debut this weekend. The former Leeds man has finally overcome a knee injury and turned out for the reserves in midweek- Paul Lambert has included him in the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Stoke. Left-back Marc Tierney remains sidelined with a groin problem for the Canaries, Daniel Ayala and James Vaughan have both been ruled out, while Elliot Bennet is fit and available once more.

Nikica Jelavic is in the Everton squad for the visit to QPR tomorrow. The big-money signing from Rangers has played just half an hour since his January move, after picking up a muscle injury. Steven Pienaar, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell will all be assessed ahead of the Loftus Road showdown, though David Moyes has revealed Darron Gibson has failed to overcome a knee injury and has been ruled out.

Jamie O’Hara has revealed he is still in some discomfort after a recent double hernia operation. The Wolves midfielder has started the last three gameweeks but had been absent for eight matches prior to his return. Installed in the hole behind Kevin Doyle in a 4-5-1 by new boss Terry Connor, O’Hara provided an assist in the 2-2 draw at Newcastle last time round but has admitted he is far from 100% right now:

I’m still trying to get back to full fitness as I’ve been having injections before training and games. I’m just desperate to play and don’t want to miss any more games so I’m fighting with things a little bit. That’s probably why I was brought off after 70 minutes just to protect me a little bit. Hopefully over the next few weeks things will settle down and I’ll be able to play pain-free.

    Two questions?
The easy one first, Sess or Mclean for this week?

Second, is it complete madness to consider the POG for captain this week? Ahead of we'll say Silva/Dempsey/Kompany

      1. Flip a coin, Sunderland probably won't be aggressive after the last game anyway, expect a mere one or two goals.

      2. Not madness, but I'd be giving the armband in this order: Kompany, Silva, Pog, Dempsey.

Looking forward to it, neither side played well last week should be an open game. Would much prefer Special Agent Steve to be in charge of you, doubt we could pull off a 5-1 against Martin O'Neill.

Harry Redknapp has refused to rule out Tottenham’s Gareth Bale ahead of the clash against Manchester United on Sunday. It was reported that Bale had torn his hamstring and could be out for up to a month but now it seems as though it was just a tight hamstring and Redknapp said in his press conference that he should “hopefully be ok” for Sunday.

I would have thought he'd be more likely to downplay Bale's chances if he wanted to play games with SAF, it's not like Man Utd's strategy would be scuppered if they suddenly had to face Krancjar instead of Bale.

No, fixtures are crud for a few weeks, and his form isn't great. If he is out for the Utd game his value will drop 0.3 / 0.4. Depending what you've made on him so far, it could be worth selling then buying back after GW30 or so

Its a big gamble. He has fairly poor fixtures for the next few, but then a really good run in. Getting him back in could be a pain.

Depends on how much you need to gamble. The safer option is keeping, but I can understand the temptation.

I'd lose 0.4 as it stands (assuming his price doesn't move) but fixtures are ropey and I'm planning on wildcarding around the time Spurs' fixtures pick up so I'd definitely be able to crowbar him back in. I was happier with him being injured! Decisions, decisions.

Modric is a decent punt I guess, Aguero will have increased rotation risk as the season draws to a close. Your attack is somewhat dependent upon Swansea doing well. I would swap out Graham to Odemwingie/Holt/Saha/Pogreb.

Keepers and Defence are great. Subs are great. You'll be using BAE and Evans a lot more in the future.

      Good team overall.

So did 'Arry actually said anything about Bale in his presser, or was he too busy whoring himself for the Ingurland job?

          Bale>>>>Should play
          RVP>>>>Should play

I have Siggy to come on for either Bale/RVP so if 1 out of the two are out I should be fine. Ant more then that and I will struggle as BAE is my other sub!

Concentrate on the red flag - looks likely that at least two if not all four of your yellow flagged players will play.

AtB, you mentioned further up you reckon the NE derby will be full of goals; in that case who do you advise to play in goal - Vorm or Krul - bearing in mind that the bookies have NewC more likely to keep a CS than the Swans?

I'm playing both Krul and Santon. I think it will be full of goals, just all in the 5under1and net 😛

No honestly, it is almost impossible to predict. I have two Newcastle and two 5under1and defenders so they rotate, but I'm not expecting a clean sheet for either side.

Vorm is probably a safer pick given Wigans troubles in scoring goals.

Mmmm.. it's going to be a bit different this time with MON in charge, although saying that Sunderland suffered a heavy defeat last week. And I agree Vorm looks the safer option as Sunderland look to have more chance of scoring. It just puts me off seeing the odds.

Thanks but I think this one is going to be a last minute gut instinct 😉

Who do you think will line up in def? How many goals do you think they'll realisically concede?

I'm going for a toon win by a 1 or 2 goal margin, but hold solid can we expect them to be at the back?

    Which team boys

    A
    Krul Mignolet
    Richards Evans Senderos Enrique G.Johnson
    Silva Dempsey Bale McLean Taarabt
    Aguero RVP Holt

(Next week Aguero will become Suarez or Rooney.)

    B
    Krul Mignolet
    Richards Evans Senderos Enrique Taiwo
    Silva Dempsey Bale Surman Taarabt
    Aguero RVP Ba

    (Aguero will become Rooney/suarez again)

Team A looks better but can i afford to go without Demba Ba for Sunderland, Norwich and West Brom!?

    Group F

    Dortmund
    points: 42 + 4 = 46
    transfers: 2 (-4)
    captain: Ba (Kun)

    Arsenal
    points: 48
    transfers: 1
    captain: Kun (Ba)

Heco87's Dortmund may be regretting taking a 4 point hit for two Newcastle players and relying on home advantage to carry him through. It wouldn't have worked as Arsenal and their manager, Canadian Football, had just that little bit more quality upfront. Captain choice was worth 5 points here. The pick was absolutely crucial and one which, with hindsight, heco87 got wrong. Both teams were carrying
injured players on the bench and were lucky that this wasn't punished by the more organised opposition they're likely to meet should they make it through.

    Olympiakos
    points: 46 + 4 = 50
    transfers: 1
    captain: Kun (Ba)

    Marseille
    points: 44
    transfers: 0
    captain: Ba (Silva)

Rukawa's Olympiakos team, at home, had too much for Fratboy's merry mob from Marseille. Despite holding Schwartzer's iucy 8 points on the bench, Rukawa's senisible captain choice and steady team scoring was a lesson in how to win at fantasy football even when life sometimes gets in the way. Fratboy's flair pick of Welbeck failed to deliver and captain Ba toiled to little reward. On a more positive note, his Man City defense doubler was a success, Had Santon been Simpson, Fratboy would be feeling a lot smarter today (and his lady grandma would have balls). As it is, it's super-secret-triple-probation for this undergrad.

not a good move. The thing about playing catch up is that you still have to ensure you don't fall back. If Bale rips it up and you don't have him then that will cost you.
If I were you the best way to play catch up is make sure you keep your good players and ditch the poor ones. Sounds simple, but so often people make the mistake of thinking that ditching a good player will make them rise up the rankings. Forget how many people own him. If you want a differential don;t spend much and take a punt, but don't ditch a good player.

Sess and Dempsey after this week should be on your list of players to dump, so too should Senderos and Ageuro, who is terrible away but great at home. Richards as well who is mr rotation at the moment.

If I were you I'd save it then next week go for Aguero and Richards out for Rooney and Evans/Skrtel/Enrique depending on funds.

Getting Adams in is being blinded by the double. Key for a double player is this - would you be happy with that player in your team during a normal week. I look at Adam and I say no. I look at skrtel and Enrique and say welcome aboard.
