Scout Scribbles- Ba Happy with Wide Role

Demba Ba maintains he has no problems playing on the left for Newcastle. Gary Cahill joins David Luiz as an injury worry for Chelsea. The injuries rack up for Blackburn, Everton are sweating over Leighton Baines’ fitness, while Royston Drenthe’s disciplinary problems raise their head once more:

Demba Ba has spoken out on his new role at Newcastle following the arrival of Papiss Cisse and the recent emergence of Hatem Ben Arfa. Ba has been stationed on the left-flank in recent matches and, resultantly, has scored just a single goal since January. Ba, for now at least, seems content with the situation…

As a striker you like to be in the striking position but now the coach has made a decision. He has decided for Papiss to be there. I do what I have to do to balance the formation for the good of the team. If I can be in the finishing area I do everything to be there, if I cannot, we do the work for Papiss….I like to be up front but lately the coach has decided to play with three strikers (Hatem Ben Arfa is the other) and I do not mind playing on the side….If I score, that’s great, but if I don’t score there is someone else who does.

Ba’s decline in Fantasy terms have been stark. He’s failed to return a goal or an assist in nine matches, whilst Cisse has flourished into a prolific scorer and top Fantasy target. Ba’s FPL price has dropped through the floor having peaked at 8.0 in Gameweek 26 – he is now available for just 7.1 with few considering him an option following Cisse’s stunning run that has brought him eight goals in his last five league outings with maximum FPL bonus in every one of those matches.

Royston Drenthe’s days as a maverick Fantasy pick look over. Everton have revealed that the Dutch winger was omitted from their semi-final squad for the clash with Liverpool due to a “disciplinary matter”. Reports claim that Drenthe failed to turn up for a training session on Friday, with the suggestion that his future at Goodison may now be over. The Dutchman has struggled to win the trust of his manager David Moyes, despite producing some effective displays which have brought him three goals and six assists in the Premier League. His direct attacking play had, for short periods, seen him flash on the Fantasy radar but given these latest developments, he looks unlikely to be seen in Everton colours in the remaining four matches.

Everton have more pressing concerns involving the fitness of Leighton Baines, after the left-back was forced off late on in the semi-final defeat suffering from a hamstring problem. The club have revealed that Baines will now undergo a scan ahead of next weekend’s trip to Old Trafford. Baines himself brought us this hopeful prognosis…

We’ll do a scan in the next couple of days…I don’t think it’s going to be too bad. We’ll just have to wait and see.

While Fantasy managers won’t be overly concerned on Baines’ fitness ahead of the United clash, he is, nonetheless, a prime target for transfers for the Toffees double Gameweek fixtures with Fulham and Stoke.

Gary Cahill is another defender firmly on the radar for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36. He will face two home encounters with QPR and Newcastle and, with David Luiz picking up a hamstring injury in Sunday’s semi-final, would seem set up to play both games, given the rib problems still endured by skipper John Terry. Our enthusiasm for Cahill should be tempered somewhat, however, with news that the former Bolton man left Wembley with an injury of his own. Reports are vague but suggest that Cahill has a foot problem which adds him to the list of doubts for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Steve Kean’s troubles are mounting on and off the pitch once again. Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Swansea left them floundering in the bottom three and counting the casualties. Grant Hanley, Yakubu and Junior Hoilett all picked up problems. It’s feared that ankle ligament damage may have ended Hanley’s season, with Steve Kean giving us a gloomy prognosis post-match…

Grant Hanley has quite a bad ankle injury, Yakubu is feeling his patella tendon on his knee so he had to come off and also Junior Hoilett has come off with a hamstring injury. Grant Hanley could miss the rest of the season, and we hope that we’ve caught Yakubu and Hoilett in time, but Grant is a huge doubt.

Hanley’s potential absence is compounded by off-pitch wranglings with Gael Givet. Reports suggest that he was fit and able to take part at Swansea but was left out of the Rovers squad by Kean who revealed outside factors were at play…

I spoke to Gael this morning and after having a chat with him it was very apparent to me that he was nowhere near in the right mindset to be involved in this game…I don’t want to go into the reasons why, we’ll keep that private, but there was no way he could have been on the pitch today.

Rovers are now three points from safety and face crucial home encounters with Norwich and Wigan, with testing trips to Spurs and Chelsea also ahead of them. Next weekend’s meet with the Canaries is surely pivotal – fail to find three points in that one and Kean’s sideseem doomed.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I reckon it was tactical - Agger in as Everton are a physical side. Also allowed Dogleash to play Carragher in a local derby.

Saying that, Enrique isn't nailed on anymore it seems.

wanted someone to block the baines and drenthe (who was expected to play there) down the left.
thus the selection of agger and carragher
and on the left side of the liverpool defence johnson is better gong forward than enrique, especially once in the final third
but unlikely to happen again due to carra's miserable showing

I'm struggling to find anybody who is a "must have" for the GW 36 doubles. Anybody who would fall into that category is a real rotation risk IMO.

Could anybody suggest their top picks for the GW 36 doubles?

I've got Dempsey so will stick with him, but the fixtures are tough.

Bale, yes, probably the most nailed on of all Spurs attacking options.

Cisse - I'm struggling to squeeze him in. Got Adebayor, so wil keep him and hope he plays both, and then Roooney and RVP..........but the question is which to drop for Cisse, if at all.

I'm also hoping to squeeze an Everton defender in, and maybe a Stoke one too.

If Torres doesn't play against Barca, i'm bringing him in for the double. Best DGW, liverpool away is a perfect script for him to score, blackburn at home to finish the season. Di Matteo said he would pick his strongest 11 for the semi final, Drogba played, and i assume he will play him in the final as well. Risky but could pay off..

No chance. Instructions from Roman have come in & Torres plays both legs against Barca. He's been bought for this particular fixture, since he has such an awesome goal-scoring record against them.

    demps never scores away
    siggy doesnt score at home

stats change..roo could easily get a brace against everton especially if baines is out" Optimus.

those were all stupid little rumours and viruses around here. Admittedly I followed the Aguero one as he went on a stupid run without scoring in open play in general, not just away.

Dempsey, that was always rubbish, how exactly was scoring in 3 away games already this year “never scores away”?

Siggy was only a matter of time, his stats never slowed, people just see points and make assumptions which I don’t think I have done here, I’m just using my memory of actually watching United play.

Not sure if you caught my late reply to your previous post, bud.

[Guess it depends on what you really think the scoreline will be. I trust Everton to keep United to 1 goal at max (ala Fulham) and there’s no guarantee the Pig will be amongst it. My main reason for the switch however is the upside potential of City. I don’t trust Wolves to restrict City to less than 5 goals, even if they put 10 men behind the ball.

But in all honesty, if I didn’t have a WC in gw36, I’d think twice about making the move.]

Very true JoA, they are giant killers, I just think things will be different this time. I can only see a max of 2/3 goals for us but I'd highly expect Rooney to be involved. He should have had a couple more assists yesterday too, despite misplacing a few too many passes he was still hinting at Rooney-on-fire-form.

In most cases its the team that doesnt perform away.

Fulham are crap away from home for some unknown reason. Man city DID struggle away slightly, no massive victories away recently, (alla before saturday)

I feel like SIggy will cover for his teammates, at home he can drop back and create goals, away he has to be more assertive and get them himself. This will obviously change as he gets to know his team better and better.

Its not really the stats that matter, but why the stats exist. Why do Fulham perform so badly away? That one I have no idea about.

It's not just in England where referees sometimes can't work out whether the ball has crossed the line or not.

    1) Christian Tiffert (MSV Duisburg - FSV Frankfurt)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLEw6lFp-ys&feature=related#t=0m09s

    2) Thomas Helmer (Bayern Munich - 1.FC Nuremberg)
The ball crosses the line OK, but erm...

The downside of (c) a DGW player(especially one on peno's) are if they miss it hurts twice as much. I remember (c) Young in a DGW when still at Villa 2 years ago. It was a disaster. Picked up a yellow in each fix and missed a peno!

My main problem is Sessegnon, what are people doing transfer him out, bench him, start him?

holt would be a nice differential in a gw where amny teams are similar
however after a bad run blackburn get a coupel of win and if history repeats itself they should get somethin out of this game

duno but i have a feeling they will get something at home against norwich
at this stage of the season for relegation teams, the spirit of the team plays a big role
and hanley have been hurting them badly lately thats why givet sounded like a good call

Hi – scratching my head in advance of DGW with this lot: 2x FT

    Krul / Minge
    Jevans / Santon / Kompany / Caulker / Skrtl
    Bale / Walcott / Valencia / Siggy / McClean
    RVP / Rooney / Cisse

Want Dempsey for Wigan & DGW so

    A) Walcott > Dempsey (but Chelsea now looks appealing with def injuries)
    B) Rooney & Valencia > Dempsey & Ade (ie 2x DGW) then next week McClean to Pienaar or ANother
    C) Other suggestions?

B is the right move..... right?

Hmm, some may say it's worrying times when you're considering Kompany -> James Collins as your transfer for the week...

In all seriousness though, Villa need to put at least 1 result together to avoid getting dragged into the relegation battle. They've been reasonably ok defensively against the lower/mid table teams (7 CS) so I'm backing them to get at least 1 CS against SUN & BOL. With SUN not having much to play for and BOL very leaky at the back, Collins could even have a shout at nicking one the other end too. Who's with me?

I was considering Villa coverage to make up ground in my ML, but then you would want to transfer him right back out for gw 36, no?
I figure you are looking at the possibility of 1 clean sheet in dgw 35 for Villa. I would need to take a hit to get him out, with my other dgw 36 transfers to do, so it would just be a possible 4 point gain (for me).
Hardly worth the risk unless you like hard work and point hits....

Hmm think my GW rank went down by a little bit. Thought 8 BAPs was better than average :S

Repost due to lack of answers!....

    Im in a quandry….

    Team is…

    Bogdan
    Evans Cuellar Skrtel
    Valencia Bale Walcott Siggy
    RVP Rooney Cisse

    Kenny Sessegnon Richards Caulker

Really want Aguero for wlv and/or Dempsey for WIG and the dgw, but have 0 in the bank

1.Either I ditch Rooney or RVP and upgrade Sessegnon

2.Straight swap Walcott to Dempsey, though I think Theo will do well, va knackered and depleted Chelsea

3.or lose Valencia and downgrade Richatrds to a New defender

Not the week to ditch Rooney. How about Richards -> Shotton and Sess -> Demps
