Men in Black – Gameweek Thirty Five

With the eleven fixtures of Gameweek 35 set out before us and referees picked for each one on Monday, a glance down the list shows they’ve handed us the dream start to the weekend’s play…

Mike Dean

Fresh from his (and my own) week off on these pages, the league’s most-used referee has been handed the Saturday headliner to kick off our Fantasy fare. Following his six penalties awarded in eight league games from the turn of the year, Dean has found himself in a bit of a lean patch lately, with no spot-kicks in his last three, but his presence at the Emirates for the Arsenal v Chelsea lunchtime encounter could well break that run.

Neither side will be looking too keenly at his appointment in that respect, though, as both have been on the receiving end of his decisions in recent months. Arsenal conceded a debatable penalty to Gareth Bale’s theatrical fall early in their February North London triumph, while Chelsea also fell foul a month later when Michael Essien’s handball was deemed deliberate enough to spark a Manchester City fightback. The ever eager Frank Lampard is likely to step up for Chelsea, while Robin van Persie may again get a chance to ape one of the great footballing moments, after his coolly taken chipped spot-kick in the recent win at Wolves.

Lee Mason

Mason’s nine penalties awarded in 21 games, with three in his previous five including the Ashley Young/Shaun Derry debacle in his last appearance, are only bettered by the aforementioned Dean. So, with the plum fixture as resurgent Manchester City visit Molineux to face bottom club Wolves, it’s no surprise to see him picked out for potential profit.

Roberto Mancini’s men sit alongside Blackburn Rovers in second place when it comes to penalty awards (eight), with only their city rivals United awarded more spot kicks this season, with 11 so far. The visitors’ Argentine strike force will be itching to step up given the chance. While Carlos Tevez was the penalty king last season, his early season miss, followed by the much publicised absence has seen Sergio Agüero and Mario Balotelli share the duties with three successful penalties each and, with the Italian sidelined with suspension, it’s likely that Aguero would be the man tasked with spot-kick duties should Mason have the urge.

Phil Dowd

Completing the heavyweight trio this week, it’s Mr Dowd’s officiating of Bolton’s home clash with Swansea that jumps out as a prospect. Alongside Lee Mason, Phil Dowd also has nine penalties to his name this season and is fourth in terms of average awards, with 0.36 per game. Earlier this week, he was confirmed as the man in charge for this season’s FA Cup Final, suggesting he will no longer rein in his extravagant tendencies – we’re therefore backing a break from his record of just a single penalty in the last eight games. Add that to his season- leading yellow card total (just a couple of cards short of a century) and there’s quite possibly a game-changing moment in the offing in this one.

Double gameweek target Martin Petrov took, and scored, the last penalty Bolton were awarded, so seems in line to continue those duties, while Swansea winger Scott Sinclair could steal the limelight from his Icelandic teammate Gylfi Sigurdsson, if given the chance for the visitors.

Just one note of caution though. Of the nine penalties Dowd has awarded in the league this season, a massive six of them have not been converted: you have been warned.

      Rooney.

Easier to get Rooney back than it is for RVP.

Plus you will want RVP in GW37 against Norwich.

Plus Valencia and Evans will suffice for Utd cover for the next few weeks anyway.

Most people would have gotten rid of Rooney for GW36 DGW striker anyway so why not do it a week earlier for someone who is liable to score a shedload of points?

Does my new plans for GW 35 and 36, and 37 look nice? 😉

    GW 35:Rooney>Aguero, already done

For GW 36 I have 2FT and 1.9M in bank

    GW 36:RVP,Tony V,McAuley>Jelavic,Bale,Huth for a 4pt hit.

these plans will leave me with 6.5M in bank, approximately enough for me to do this, for GW 37 I will do P Cisse>RVP, because Cisse has in GW 37 and 38 (mci, eve) and RVP has (NOR,wba)

These plans will leave me with this team for the amazing DGW 36:

    Krul(che,wig)

    BAE(BLA,bol)-Caulker(WOL)-Huth(ARS,EVE)

    Dempsey(eve,liv)-Siggy(WOL)-Sessegnon(BOL)-Bale(BLA,bol)

    Aguero(MUN)-Jelavic(FUL,sto)-Cisse(che,wig)

Now, do YOU like my plan? 😀 😀

I think Ryo is a waste of space personally, DGW or not. Plus he could well be rested for one game or taken off early in both.

Realistically, what are you expecting him to get you? Maybe an assist or two in the DGW?

Siggy is playing a defence that has already let in 65 goals this season and they still have 6 games left. He's capable of scoring a brace again and getting you a double digit score and max baps.

Ryo or Walcott, he's been useless (but scoring goals until last week) for the past 3 weeks. He has to be rotated in the next two matches. As an Arsenal fan, he's looked dire, though I can't see him eing rested with Arteta out and Ramsey such the hot trash that he is on the pitch.

    Current team:

    Vorm (Mign)
    Clichy, Simpson, JEvans (BAE, Turner)
    Siggy, Dempsey, Valencia, HBA (Walcott)
    RVP, Rooney, Cisse

Have I got my subs right with Walcott on the bench or is it overkill with HBA and Cisse?
Am leaning towards swapping Tevez for Rooney and making him captain.

    Any opinions?

wishful thinking sounds like to me, Just trying to figure out which one to captain...

If you planned on dumping Dzeko after the season would you be playing him? Mario kinda scares me too. Other than that I can't imagine the two Argentinians not starting other than to not give United anymore film footage on them than is necessary.

Simpson. You'd hate Newcastle to keep a CS with Simpson on the bench and Krul missing through injury. I expect Krul to play but just saying...

Stoke score very few goals away from home if you need a more convincing argument.

Have asked before, but I really can’t decide.

The guy who is #2 in my minileague with 600£ to the winner, is 37 poins behind me. He got his WC left, and will play it next week. This week he did Rooney -> Tevez, and he wil most likely captain him.

I planned on saving my transfer for next week, and then getting Cisse and Bale for Rooney and Pilkington.

Buuuut. Should I rather play it safe and do Rooney->Tevez(c) to cancel his transfer? Would mean a -4 point hit next week to get Bale and Cisse inn. I fear that Tevez might hurt me bad.

        I'm 99% sure.

I checked his money in bank before and after he did his transfer, and it can't be Aguero. And it's what I would have done since he got his WC to play next week.
