Euro 2012

Captain Poll – Matchday Three – Day One

It’s time to wipe the slate clean and start afresh with our captaincy options once again, as Fantasy managers ready themselves for the final round of group matches to begin tomorrow evening. With all four sides standing a chance of progressing to the last eight, defence is not an option for either of the quartet – now is the time to go on the front foot and, with no clean sheets in any of the Group A games thus far, Fantasy expectations will be high:

Current group leaders Russia square up to Greece, with Alan Dzagoev offering the main goal threat. The 7.8 priced midfielder has notched three times already, though Andrei Arshavin’s trio of assists has helped the Arsenal man to 13 points in the McDonald’s game. Roman Shirokov’s attacking menace from the midfield three could well play a part, while Aleksandr Kerzhakov may face a battle to hold down a first-team place after missing 11 chances over his two appearances – Roman Pavlyuchenko is waiting in the wings to replace him.

The Greeks are trickier to predict. Only one player – Giorgos Samaras – has started up front in their two matches so far, with Theofanis Gekas and Dimitrios Salpingidis grabbing goals against Czech Republic and Poland respectively after climbing off the bench. Konstantinos Mitroglou was afforded a 19 minute sub role against the Czechs but could earn a call-up to the starting XI as Santos reassesses his forward options.

Poland’s remit tomorrow night is simple – win against the Czech Republic and they are through. Skipper Jakub Blaszczykowski has had a hand in both his side’s goals so far, providing an assist against Greece before notching the crucial equaliser in the match with Russia – he looks set to be inspirational once more for Franciszek Smuda’s side. Robert Lewandowski’s threat up front will also be crucial, while Ludovic Obraniak’s creativity and set-piece duties have seen him provide plenty of opportunities for his team mates.

The Czech Republic will be hoping Vaclav Pilar can continue his goalscoring streak in their crucial clash with the co-hosts. The midfielder has notched in both his side’s opening two games and, priced at just 5.1, has proven to be a cut-price gem for Fantasy managers. Petr Jiracek’s move to a right wing role against Greece last time out saw him grab the opener and, with Tomas Rosicky still a doubt due to an Achilles problem, the creativity of Jaroslav Plasil looks more key than ever. Up front, Milan Baros is likely to lead the line and will be keen to pick up in performance after a disappointing couple of games so far.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    4.0 GK/Andersen
    Berezutski Boenisch Alba Limbersky Bonucci
    Pilar Nasri Dzagoev Kuba Marchisio
    Gomez Benzema Torres

    How's this WC looking? Bit bummed about having to pick a keeper who won't play but hoping Andersen can get a few save points, No one I want to sufficiently downgrade to get a decent alternative

    Okay, total lurker mistake here but only found out about this KO format in the Bug league. I thought it was just a straight up league.

    So can I please take this opportunity to address 'Hello, we are a team' and 'Giggs Boson' and belatedly say... Ha ha! Lick my boot, thou ist defeated.

    Ginkapo, it is the Clash of the Titans next round. I am going to defeat you in a battle to the death. There will be blood sweat and tears but enough about the foreplay, there will be some Fantasy Football afterwards too.

          Nah, Alba has more attacking threat than Arbeloa. Certainly not worth the 0.5m outlay. Those 0.5ms are better saved investing in potential attacking returns from Pilar.

          Watch out for Bonucci and Barzagli though. Talk that Bonucci won't play and Barzagli will... I trust Demi, so I think I'll go with Barzagli, but there's no way of knowing...

    The Sky fantasy football game doesn't allow you to use any subs, so with that in mind I was wondering if my starting 11 choices were good to go for the next set of games.

    ---------------------- Buffon -----------------------
    - Alba -- Maniatis -- Berezutski -- Perquis -
    ---- Ozil -- Shirikov -- Silva ----
    Rooney -- Benzema -- Cassano/Ballotelli

    For some reason, I am not happy with it. I can make about 10 free changes too so no issues mixing it up a bit if needed.

    Any tips gentlemen? 😉
    Cheers

    Evening! Too bad Sweden lost today. Thought Glen Johnson played a great game today, long time since I've seen him play like he did today. Two goals today from king Olof, what a legend, 116 caps, the lad is 35 in September

    In the euphoria of Poland winning its second straight match, I thought we were now through to the QF's of the FF Uefa Cup - but now think we could still go out... should Poland be worried...?

    We're on 6 pts, with Czech Rep and Russia on 3. But if the Czech's beat us and Russia beat Greece, could that feasibly send us out?

    Where's the rule book, as I can't see it for the potentially massive amounts of egg on my face... 😉

    Any advice on this from the Cup organisers would be greatly appreciated.

    Italy.......

    There were suggestions that the team could now revert to a 4-3-1-2 system with De Rossi returning to midfield. Prandelli, however, has other ideas.

    “The team believe in the 3-5-2 system with De Rossi at the back and a Coach must not go against the conviction of the group,” the tactician stated in this afternoon’s Press conference as Andrea Barzagli returned to training.

    “At this stage, I’m not thinking about changing shape and putting De Rossi back in midfield. The assuredness of my players is our strength.

    “We’ll need a fresh and lively team in our third game, therefore there will be three or four changes for the match.

    “The decisions will be made not just by my own sensations, but also as a result of scientific results. Everyone will have fitness tests tomorrow.”

    IMO, Cassano drops out with Giaccherini, and Motta. Balzaretti, Montolivo and Giovinco come in

    Know it's a bit long, but I figured it was worth a re-post

    FFS Friendly World Cup Matchday 3 Analysis

    Group A

    In the 2nd round of Group matches Switzerland (137), led by one of the greatest GWs ever seen in FFS history from JKisthe1 cruised to a 41 point victory over Egypt (96) to all but book their place in the knockout-stages. James_Fitz weighed in with a fairly hefty 56 points, but JK’s mammoth score of 81 was only 15 short of Egypt’s combined total. The 6 points, coupled with a hefty goal difference and a great H2H record leaves them sitting pretty. Meanwhile Top seeds Uruguay scored a narrow, but extremely important 107-100 win over Slovenia to keep their chances of qualification alive. The difference maker in this one ultimately proving to be Emperikal’s captain choice of David Silva, which made up for the sale of Pilar to Fortounis to obtain Maggio instead of Bonucci (sorry about that one). Uruguay will now a victory in their final group game could be key.

    1st – Switzerland 6pts (Captain Shirokov and JK/Karaisthe1). Their victory over Egypt puts them in pole position, whilst only a defeat by Slovenia of 59 points of more could deny this team a place in the knock-outs. That being said any form of defeat to Slovenia could relegate Switzerland to 2nd place and a match with the FWC favourites Brazil, something Switzerland co-manager JK and Brazil co-manager Forca Inter are keen to avoid. A Uruguay win on the final day would mean that even defeat would see Switzerland top the group by virtue of their better GD.

    2nd – Uruguay 3pts (4Vets and Emperikal) – Now in 2nd place by virtue of their win over Slovenia the situation for Uruguay is simple they have to win to have any chance of qualifying due to their lower GD. Anything else could let in Slovenia should they take anything from the high flying Swiss. But as their fortunes improve they find themselves up against a team that is proving to be something of a whipping boy in this group. 4Vets and Emperikal will feel confident of obtaining the necessary result, but they can not finish top of the group as a win for Slovenia would see them move ahead of Switzerland via H2H result, whilst Switzerland would remain ahead of Uruguay on that H2H result, so it looks like it’s Brazil that await Uruguay should they make it out, and that means an encounter with the high-flying Forca Inter and possibly another Epic Fail press conference.

    3rd – Slovenia. 3pts (Aatish and Kostja) A disappointing defeat to Uruguay leaves Slovenia with it all to do. The situation for them is this. Win and they could win the group by virtue of a H2H win over Switzerland, anything else and a Uruguay win would see them eliminated. They could still finish 2nd with a draw so long as Egypt can upset the odds and turn-over Uruguay, but this team is staring down the barrel of elimination. They could even be eliminated if they win. If Uruguay beat Egypt 3 teams would be level on 6 points, thus meaning that the all important GD comes into play. At the present time they sit behind Switzerland but ahead of Uruguay, but a heavy Uruguay win could see that over-turned.

    4th – Egypt 0pts (ILA and Huth the Daddy) – This team has given their all, but they have found themselves up against some top class opponents and have no chance of making the knockouts as even if they win against Uruguay their defeats to Slovenia and Switzerland would see them eliminated. That being said they could still impact the outcome of this group as if they get than win over Uruguay they could deny their opponents a place in the knockouts.

          also how would it be formatted? seems like 16 works well as 1 and 2 advance but 24 i think would screw it up.... 8 divisions of 3?

            It will decrease the quality in the tournament and I don't think any fans want it to happen. Not even Swedes like me who don't qualify for every tournament will prefer it that way, but it's been decided since long that 2016 is the first tournament with 24 teams.

            It will be divided into six groups of four, where every winner and runner-up qualify in addition to the four best threes, making up the 16 playoff teams.

            In the end they voted for it because 50 something games generate much more cash than 31 or whatever it is now. STUPID!

                Yeah. It has loads of flaws. To add another I very much dislike the notion of letting teams qualify on being 'the best in their position', because being third in one group has no correlation to being third in another. Worlds of difference.

      here's the official rules:

      If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the
      following criteria are applied, in the order given; to determine the rankings:
      a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;
      b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question (if more
      than two teams finish equal on points);
      c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if
      more than two teams finish equal on points);
      d) superior goal difference in all the group matches;
      e) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches;
      f) position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system (see Annex I,
      paragraph 1.2.2);
      g) fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);

          But it was overall a great game! Especially the second half.

          I'm taking the positives:

          Scored more than 1 goal
          Came from behind
          Scored in the second half
          Didn't look (quite) so tired.

          Sure there's loads of negatives too, but i'm taking those 4 positives and hanging on to them

    I know there is a consensus of opinion that Gomez may be rested v Denmark. Personally I think he will start, but this is just my opinion and i have nothing to back it up with (but conversely those saying he will be rested also have nothing concrete to base it on other then their belief that Germany do not take Denmark seriously) and on this basis i will be keeping him

    That being said, there is of course always a risk and if I was on a wc I would opt for the security of RvP, though I believe CR7 has a point to prove.

    In short, if you own Gomez, keep him, if you own CR7, keep him, if you own neither and want a safe bet on wc, get RvP, if you feel like gambling, go Gomez. If you have nothing to lose, go CR7.

      Why is RVP safer than Ronaldo?

        He has a goal, Ronaldo has nothing but a string of broken FFS managers in his wake.
