Semi Finals – Day Two – Dugout Discussion

After back-to-back goalless draws, we’ll be hoping for a little more entertainment tonight as Germany square up to Italy for the right to meet Spain in Sunday’s final. As always, we’ve opened up the Dugout Discussion ahead of this evening’s match.:

The team news is now in and is as follows:

Joachim Low makes three changes from the side that defeated Greece 4-2. Lukas Podolski and Mario Gomez both return after being dropped, though the inclusion of Toni Kroos in the starting XI is something of a surprise. Andre Schurrle, Miroslav Klose and Marco Reus all drop to the bench as a result.

Cesare Prandelli makes a single alteration to his starting XI. Giorgio Chiellini is fit after a thigh injury and returns to the side at left-back – this means Federico Balzaretti shifts over to the opposite flank in the back-four, with Ignazio Abate the man to lose his place.

Germany XI: Neuer; Boateng, Hummels, Badstuber, Lahm; Khedira, Schweinsteiger; Kroos, Özil, Podolski; Gomez

Italy XI: Buffon; Balzaretti, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Marchisio, Pirlo, De Rossi; Montolivo; Balotelli,Cassano.

    GUYS - Klose, Reus were all huge risks coming into this game and we all knew this beforehand. It isn't as if it's completely out of the blue. So man up guys, or at least don't cry about it.

        Really tempted for that. Özil is less of a threat with Gomez than with Klose imo, so leaning towards Pirlo or Balo. If Balo would be on pens and/or set pieces it would be a no-brainer for me, now I have hard time choosing between the two Italians.

    Just missed yesterday's transfer deadline, which has mucked up the rest of my tournament, but I have some consolation in that it left me with Gomez, whom I would have dumped!

    Who to captain? Ozil or Gomez? I also have Hummels and Pirlo.
    Armband is currently on Ronaldo.

    No bitterness on my part. I knew the risk of owning Klose, plus my team-mate owns Gomez so I took Klose knowing one of us would have the German starting striker. Klose will come on at some point, he has in every other game. Hopefully the Italians will be knackered by then and he can nick a goal.
