Having rolled out a Selection Guide to Goalkeepers earlier this afternoon, we now switch focus to the Members Projections for our search for the men between the sticks. While Joe Hart predictably sits out on top, we focus on value in this first Members article, examining those keepers who are expected to deliver the best points per million ratio for the season and the first six Gameweeks…
Keepers are DDG + Federici, but what about that defence?
a) Cole, CLICHY, DEMEL, Cuellar, Rangel
b) Cole, S.TAYLOR, HANGELAND, Cuellar, RangelOpen ControlsI’d love some advice on this but I posted it just as new post came so it was lost, cheers.
Begovic / Friedel
Clichy / Cole A / Hangeland / Cuellar / Fabio
Silva / Hazard / Maloney / N’Zogbia / Noble
Graham / Torres / AgueroOpen ControlsClichy is a big doubt with rotation in my opinion. Is there no other way of maybe fitting in Lescott?

New post
Open ControlsHi,
A. Mignolet and Hangeland
Or
B. Friedel and Hughes
Thanks.Open Controlsi am finally able to see member articles 😀
projection rocksOpen Controlssorry to say this, but it is pretty much lottery...
Open ControlsProjections ... bleeeuuurrrgggh.
Open Controls
How would you improve this team?
Friedel Federici
Ivanovic Saylor Cuellar Fonte Fabio
Hazard Hoilett Sinclair McClean Noble
Aguero Rooney Petric
Cheers for opinionsOpen ControlsGuthrie to score and assist on DGW! I... don't jinx well. Trust me.
Open ControlsErm excuse me, that's my bandwagon...
Open Controls
Hows this team?
DDG Green
Ivan Rafael Hangaland Gorkess Cuellar
Silva Hazard Noble Pienarr Larsson
Aguero Torres PogOpen ControlsThink Friedel and either Federici/ Green could be the best option.
Schwarzer/Green is nice but I'd prefer to have Hangeland as Fulham cover to add that attack threat in case.Open ControlsNo mention of Szczesny in the goalkeeper rotation article, and now, not in this one either. At just 5.5m, what gives? He's a much better punt than Friedal, imo, and I've found a 4.5m keeper he rotates with for some of Arsenal's trickier fixtures.
Open Controlsthis sounds interesting!
Open ControlsHe misses out by 0.1 on the current top ten for value - he could well sneak in in a later revision. He is excellent value - no doubt and he gets a mention in the defenders article coming up tomorrow.
Open ControlsOk, that makes sense, if the list was determined by points return last season divided by cost this season. I'm projecting Arsenal's defence to be a little stronger this year, so I think he could be worth it.
The defenders article will be interesting. I so would like Vermaelen in my team, but there's both Szczesny and Koscielny at the 5.5m mark, which is difficult to ignore.Open Controlswhy will Arsenals defence be better this season than last?
Cant see it myself. Arsenal need to buy a couple of players or they are gonna struggle to make top 4 imo.Open ControlsMainly down to injuries at the back and def mid last year. Injuries to Vermaelen and Mertesacker, meant neither started 30+ league games.
Open Controls
With Jenkinson at RB, yeah?
I'll pass.Open Controls+42
Open ControlsArsene will sort that before the end of the transf.........OH HANG ON!
Open ControlsHahaha!!! 😆
Open Controls
Possibly, or Djourou. I'm going to look more long term than a few games though, so I don't have to use a wildcard or FT's sorting my GK situation out.
Open Controls
Man city, chelsea and liverpool in his first 6 games though..
Open ControlsI've been musing over defender pairings and you can find some of my musings here. Based on the 'difficulty' rating I've assigned to teams (which in turn is based on last season's actual results and projected 'generic' results for the promoted teams), I can't see a better combination at 10m or below.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkQk4QrJ-jJ3dDQ5NDdJTzhXdVI2MnAzUXZKUTBNRmc
I'd be trusting the Arsenal defence in more away games than typical for budget keeper rotation approaches, but with Diaby back, I rate him and Song to protect Vermalen and Koscielny pretty well.Open Controls
Statistically the worst high end keeper last season
Open ControlsIf by 'high end' you mean City, United, and Chelsea, then those keepers are 0.5-1.5m more. Szczesny is nailed on at 0.5m less than DDG (who isn't), and if Vermaelen stays fit then him and Koscielny are as good as any centre back partnership in the league. Pair that with Diaby and possibly Wilshere's return, and a team that keep possession, and I think Arsenal will keep more clean sheets this year.
At the end of the day, I'm trying to find value with my picks, and 5.5m is unquestionable value, imo.Open Controls
The only downside is not wishing to double up on the Arsenal defence with Vermaelen. This is a shame as I believe he had the highest PPG value for a regular starter than any other defender.
Open ControlsGood shout, although their early fixtures put me off. Migs gets no mention either which i find a bit odd
Open ControlsDoesn't make many saves, read on Opta he had the lowest saves to shot % in the league. I'd rather get a combo with near perfect fixtures, and then maybe get Szczesny in if he's fallen in price and when Arsenal's defence is at full strength. Good shout though, he served me well at times last season.
Open Controls
Kagawa, Hazard, Rafael, Torres...Too many risks/unproven prem players/unreliable players? I'm a little worried about my midfield because I am very dependant on Kagawa and Hazard.
Open ControlsSo I'd assume that you have no problem having those "risk" players mentioned?
Open Controls
Why start with Kagawa? Tricky away fixture against Everton in GW1 means you can judge if SAF trusts starting him in away games. If he does play, you can't expect big returns from that fixture, so plenty of time to judge his talent/form and take the plunge in GW2.
Open ControlsI have him mainly for his great value and the promising signs that he will play behind the main striker (and his Bundesliga stats too). But yes you are correct, Everton away has never been a great fixture for Utd.
Open ControlsInstead of Kagawa, who would you get? 9.0 limit.
Open ControlsI like Arteta at 8.0m but fiixtures aren't the best. Podolski could surprise a few. There are mid-priced midfielders wth potential for greater returns than last year catching my eye at the minute - Cabaye, Pienaar, Taarabt, Hoilett, Ramires.
For United coverage, probably Valencia then can always 'downgrade'.Open Controls
sensible soccer - what a game! So many wasted hours on that game. I can remember the music and menus, everything
Open Controlssimplicity at its best 🙂
Open Controls
I would try get the risky picks down to 1 or 2 perhaps. With more it means you could well have to spend points to fix it up.
Open ControlsVery sensible, trying to get the balance right. I will have to drop one of those four players.
Open Controls
A lot of people talking about lindegard. Surely de Gea will get a lot more games this year as hes finally playing to his potential. last season he was chopped and changed but still outscored cech and reina.
Every goalkeeper who got more points last year than him played 700mins+ more than him.
I never owned him last year but this year i don't see the bargain pairs working as well as last.
I'm more worried about ferdinand starting than lindegard to affect his points total.Open ControlsIt is hard to say. Linde clearly doesn't want to just sit and play second fiddle to DDG even if DDG maintains some good form we could see Linde coming in every now and then to keep him happy.
Open ControlsLinde played a lot of games last year, mainly while de gea was looking very dodgey. I think lindegarde will be the cup keeper for the year and de gea to play nearly all league games.
Open ControlsI think it is going to come down to form and what Fergie feels like doing. Impossible to say what he has planned.
Open ControlsTrue. De Gea on form is far better than Linde. So I guess it'll depend on the first few games. Hoping ddg gets the time to make the no.1 spot his. Not even a united fan but i think he wasn't given enough time last year.
Open Controls
So.. if you get a midfield of
9.5 Pienaar Sinclair Noble Maloney
You can play the 9.5, Sinclair(Michu if worried about olympics) and Pienaar(apart from GW 1) every week till GW 8.. Then you can rotate Noble and Maloney fixture difficulty wise.
OR is that midfield too weak? allows for Torres Aguero Rooney upfrontOpen ControlsA or b
A. Vdv, aguero, michu
B. bale tevez kagawaOpen ControlsB ... Kagawa > Michu
Open Controls
Friedel - Federici
Cole - Clichy - Cuellar - Fonte - Fabio
Mata - Valencia - McClean - Sinclair - Ireland
Tevez - Torres - Petric
2M in bank
Think Clichy will play most games this season. Not sure whether to double up on Swansea attack and get in Graham for Petric. Also, anyone reckon Allen represents value at 5.5 if his transfer to Liverpool goes through??Open ControlsHoping to join up tonight. Worth it even if just as a donation.
Open ControlsA. Lescott McCartney
B. Saylor Fabio + 1 mil to spend elsewhereOpen ControlsAfter tomorrow's defensive article every defence here will consist of Hangeland S.Taylor Rangel Cuellar Fabio i bet
Open ControlsOk so Pienaar is officially with Everton, but is he a good pick for the start of the season? If not, who in his price range?
Open ControlsWhere has the idea come from that Van der Vaart will be played OOP/in the hole?
If this is the case then I'm surprised that his current ownership stands at just 4.6%Open ControlsWell it's his regular position, and where he's played most of his Spurs' career. He would be in my team but there's the siggy factor, don't think AVB would play them both in most games.
Open ControlsPlayers: 2.5 million
FFS Readers: 25,000 ...Open ControlsYou'd think Maloney is a 'must have' reading on here.... He has 1% ownership.
Open Controls
RMT:
DDG Federici
Cole Lescott Kaboul Rafael Demel
Bale Pienaar Taraabt Noble Maloney
Torres Aguero Graham
with 2 mill for Torres to Rooney GW2.
All depends if Rafael hold down the RB position early season for United? and is my defence a bit heavy? Alternatively could do:
Rafael -> Cuellar & Taraabt -> Sinclair
or just Rafael -> Koscielny
???Open ControlsMaloney (5.0) or Guthrie (4.5) as a cheap fifth midfielder?
Open ControlsRMT
Which is better people?
Team A - More aimed toward 1st 6 GWs
Federici/ DDG
Lescott, Simpson, Williams, Ashley Cole, McCartney
Kagawa, Hazard, Larsson, VDV, Noble
Ba, Aguero, Pog
Team B - More aimed towards the DGW
Federici/ DDG
Lescott, Simpson, Williams, Ashley Cole, McCartney
Kagawa, Hazard, Britton, Yaya Toure, Noble
Torres, Aguero, PogOpen ControlsTorres Aguero and Graham (plus 2m for upgrade to rooney)
or
Cisse Aguero and JelavicOpen ControlsThe dad of le Clos is a hero
Open Controlspeople still punting on Clyne....awful early fixtures
Open ControlsAnd not nailed on. I really don't get it. If you want a £4m Southampton defender than Fonte is a lot better prospect.
Open Controlscouldn't agree more. However I can offer a simple explanation regarding the punters - The people who are purchasing Fonte are let's face it not going to actuallly play him for 3 of their first 4 at least. However after this if it is established that Clyne is going to be a starter and on top of this is playing OOP and picks up any attacking returns in this time period, the punters who went for Clyne from GW1 will be absolutely laughing as not only will they not need to waste a free transfer, they will be rolling in the $$ from everybody jumping on the band wagon - so I can see their logic but I personally have gone for Fonte 🙂
Open Controls
Defenders are a key choice so early on, and I can see two potential minefields:
1. City's pursuit of Agger shows they are in the market for a new centre back. If it is Agger, or someone of similar quality, then Lescott is at significant risk
2. Chelsea in the market for a new right-back potentially puts Ivanovic at risk, or less of a viable option.Open Controls
