Sky Sports Fantasy Game – Bonus Points Analysis

As mentioned previously, our Fantasy football coverage will also include a weekly article on the Sky Sports game as we look to broaden our analysis of the various games available to Fantasy managers this season. Having already assessed the Rules, the Player List and broken down last season’s Man of the Match awards, the next article analyses the introduction of the new bonus points system, which awards players who make 60+ completed passes and/or 4+ successful tackles in any given Gameweek.

Unlike the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Sky Sports use Opta data for analysing player performance – making it a perfect accompaniment for our Members section data. For that purpose, we’ve created custom tables in the Members Area which highlights the main protagonists from 2011/12, indicating the respective haul each player would have accrued in bonus points alone were the rule in place last season. These statistics are not available in the Sky Sports game, or anywhere else, giving our members a real edge when it comes to selecting their initial squads.

With two points for 60+ passes and another two points for 4+ tackles, it’s clear that the new bonus system will have a definite impact in how we approach the task of setting up our teams for the season ahead. Bearing in mind that the Points Scoring system allocates five points for a goal or a Man of the Match award and three points for an assist, identifying those players who are capable of producing the bonus points looks almost as vital.

Unsurprisingly, given the bonus criteria, nine of the top ten are midfielders, while Swansea’s passing game under Brendan Rodgers sees as many as three of their players also feature in the upper echelons, with one hovering just outside…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Rumours that Song has said his goodbyes and will move to Barca. If so, Arteta could well start the season as our deepest mid with Santi and Diaby ahead. Chamberlain could also see more gametime in the centre.

Would it be possible for us to switch to 4-4-2 with Arteta and Carzorla at CM?

Possible i guess but with most teams playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 we could get overrun.

If Le Grove (Arsenal blogger) is to be believed (generally pretty reliable), then Song is saying his goodbyes to team mates ATM.
Also, he has a hunch that Coquelin will start at CDM. Personally I think he might but only until we sign an out and out CDM. Capoue or M'Vila.

Need some help guys – have been tinkering with team for far too long and need some loving works of reassurance!

    Federici Foster
    Cole Zabaletta Rangel Hangeland Gorkss
    Cazorla Bale Mata Noble Marveaux
    Torres Aguero Pog

Biggest concern is on this version have nothing in the bank to do the Torres > Shrek but have done for benefit of having Bale who has solid fixtures from GWK2

Also struggled with keeper rotation – best combo for 5m & 4.5m?

ore from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson on Robin van Persie's imminent move to Manchester United: "He is on his way up from London for a medical later this afternoon. We hope that goes according to plan. His agent is in discussions with David Gill [United's chief executive] right about now.

"We hope all the things will be tied up, although sometimes medicals do take a bit longer. I am sure he will be available for Monday's game.

"In 1999 I had Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the four best strikers in Europe. We are going towards that now with Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney, Robin, Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa.

"It is a fantastic collection of players and hopefully I pick the right combinations."

So Fergie says Kagawa is a striker.

    Interesting.

After the €45m comment last week, he follows it up with another corker.
Shevchenko,Van Nistelrooy,Roberto Baggio, Raul,Bergkamp,Djorkaeff, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo to begin with.
He forgets that he also had Keane, Beckham, and a youthful Giggs and Scholes in midfield to make those marginally better than average strikers look an awful lot better.

If he is this entertaining in the pre-season, I cant wait for the 2012/13 to get started. What are the Glazers putting in his tea?

I agree, its much quieter on here now as theyve all moved on thats what im refering to, all this rushing and racing to be first/Rmt etc is actually in an annoying way funny !
I suppose I much prefer a decent debate and a bit of banter I loved the summer and the dead zone generally as these times are more about quality than quantity.
I understand the Scouts have very little control of these events.
I think the link from Fpl has brought a lot of traffic, some of it noisy and polluted but some good, I loved this site on first find but I am questioning it at this point, let's see if it quitens/slows a little, thank you for your attention.

In reply to Mohit above, yep I still expect Kaca to start against Norwich. Think we'll play a 4-2-3-1 with Schwarzer; Reither Hangekand Hughes (if fit) Reither; Diarra, Dembele; Duff Ruiz Kacaniklic; Petric.

Only thing that could alter this is Rodallega being fit, Jol's press conference should make things more certain. Main downside to Kaca is that I think he'll be the first attacking player subbed off if things aren't going to plan but at 4.5 you can't expect too much...

It seems like his PT might be limited also unless Dempsey moves and even than he faces competition from Rodallega and Ruiz maybe. Id say the 4.5 bracket is down to Guthrie and Puncheon(SOUTH) I personally have Robson-Kanu for the DGW- but he is not nailed on either.

      Looks very good to me.
Lack of Man U attack of course, and MF on the weak side, one option is to downgrade Pod to sort out the MF.

People who are planning to Bring in RVP/Rooney for gmwk 2, are you worried that their price will rise before you put them in?

I've scrolled as fast as I can through pages of stuff but seen little mention of Vertonghen. Watching Belgium Holland last night, he can play midfield and score goals but is down as a defender. He scored last night.

    http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2012/08/16/belgium-vs-netherlands-4-2-highlights-2012-mertens-lukaku-vertonghen-benteke-narsingh-huntelaar-goals-video-friendly/

Dries Mertens looks like someone that should be in the PL. De Jong was terrible.

If you've followed so far, my latest is rather different from most on here and you could comment, if you can be bothered.

    Given Jaaskelainen
    Ivanovic Vertonghen Lescott Santon Tomkins
    Lampard Hoilett Kagawa Allen Marveaux
Torres Tévez Borini (another with little mention)

I have spent as little as possible on my defence and goalkeepers, hoping that they all start.
    Anyone else taking this approach?

Doing so allows me to start

    bale, mata, nasri, kags
    Rooney, suarez, tevez

The way I see it, attackers win weeks, defenders not so much.
