Sky Sports Fantasy Game – Bonus Points Analysis

As mentioned previously, our Fantasy football coverage will also include a weekly article on the Sky Sports game as we look to broaden our analysis of the various games available to Fantasy managers this season. Having already assessed the Rules, the Player List and broken down last season’s Man of the Match awards, the next article analyses the introduction of the new bonus points system, which awards players who make 60+ completed passes and/or 4+ successful tackles in any given Gameweek.

Unlike the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Sky Sports use Opta data for analysing player performance – making it a perfect accompaniment for our Members section data. For that purpose, we’ve created custom tables in the Members Area which highlights the main protagonists from 2011/12, indicating the respective haul each player would have accrued in bonus points alone were the rule in place last season. These statistics are not available in the Sky Sports game, or anywhere else, giving our members a real edge when it comes to selecting their initial squads.

With two points for 60+ passes and another two points for 4+ tackles, it’s clear that the new bonus system will have a definite impact in how we approach the task of setting up our teams for the season ahead. Bearing in mind that the Points Scoring system allocates five points for a goal or a Man of the Match award and three points for an assist, identifying those players who are capable of producing the bonus points looks almost as vital.

Unsurprisingly, given the bonus criteria, nine of the top ten are midfielders, while Swansea’s passing game under Brendan Rodgers sees as many as three of their players also feature in the upper echelons, with one hovering just outside…

    Debate time!!!

    1) Which are the 2 6.5mill midfielders that you would say would bring in more points during the whole season? And why?
    2) Would u prefer to have RvP or Rooney after the RvP deal? And why?

        Few question marks for me. Mccarthy won't play, Nelsen may not play. Everton notorious slow starters so I'm holding off Pienaar til we see their form. Ireland inconsistent.

      Not even close, he is a winger, that means Obertan, and Marveaux wont get a shot and Ryan Taylor wont get too many chances either. Also Ben Arfa and Jonas Gutierrez lose some PT.

        Perhaps ... I think we'll miss Jonas if that's the case though - the sort of player who does not get enough praise at all. He always puts in a real shift for us and is a firm fans favourite... (but then I suppose who isn't at the moment)

      I can't see him playing anywhere else than DM. He wanted to talk to the manager first to see what his plans were with him and if he had told him he was going to use him as a full back, I really doubt he'd have gone.

        Yeah, think you could be right, although I do think he'll fill in at full back from time to time.

        "I talked to the manager and the coach and they know that I want to play in a defensive midfield place and that's why they brought me here," he said.
        "But I can play at left-back or right-back, so that's also no problem."

          he wasn't getting in the Dutch team, and there is a perfect nigel de jong shaped spot there for him to take. He will play in midfield, not to forget he is a brilliant all round footballer who can also make surging dribbles and score goals. He will be a huge asset to your team

    In the Sky game, anyone know how to change team formation? I want to go with 3-5-2 but when I choose players for this, it says team formation not valid, so I'm stuck on 4-4-2. Any ideas guys? Cheers.

    Someone asked for news on BALE - source BBC

    Bale was withdrawn just after the hour mark, holding his back after landing heavily.
    But he discounted fears over any serious damage to an area that has troubled him in the past.
    Spurs open their Premier League campaign at Newcastle on Saturday and Bale said: "I just landed on it a bit awkwardly but it's fine.
    "I was planning to come off after 60 [minutes] anyway, so it was good to get a run-out."
