Season Predictions 2012/13 – View From The Scouts

Over the last week or so the Fantasy Football Scout fold have been sharing our innermost thoughts with regards to some of the most “Burning Questions” ahead of the new campaign. To accompany our views there, here’s our annual quick-fire round of predictions, where we let you know the players each of us are tipping to shine in a new season…

As our entry from last year will show you we’re prone to making the odd mistake (or seven). Steve Kean, eh? Who would have thought he would still be in a job. Even after he got Blackburn relegated, as half of us rightly predicted.

Here follows our thoughts on the year ahead. Soak it in and then join the discussion and offer your thoughts and counter-comments down below.

Andy, that’s my good self, kicks things off for 2012/13 with what is no doubt a bit of a fancy for one player in particular. And it’s not even Gylfi Sigurdsson. This is almost partisan from our resident all-rounder.

Second out of the traps is Big Dunc. One of two Everton fans on the Scout payroll our resident toffee can’t help but get a little bit excited at the prospects of his club. Is he mad? We’ll find out by May.

Having signed mid-way through last Stilicho gets his first Scout attempt to show everyone just how prophetic he is. His opinions on Norwich pretty much separate this gent from everyone else involved so he’s either a mad heretic or the one we should all be looking to in the future.

Granville gets a weekly platform on the Scoutcast to discuss and debate with Mark on all things Fantasy Football related. In this post he has, perhaps unsurprisingly, decided to pick some answers from the red side of Manchester. What’s more surprising is that we can see some light blue too.

Also having his first dabble at infamy is Jonty. With no Premier League allegiances for this Brighton fan, his picks can come untainted by any frivolous behaviour. He wisely agreed with me about a certain West Brom player.

Anorak may be our resident specialist when it comes to the men in black but he also likes to think he can be a dab hand at Fantasy football too. As far as top goalscorer predictions, he marks himself out as the black sheep of the Scout fraternity by being the only one not to tow the party line.

Having churned out more top quality articles than Anchor have butter, Paul is well versed on all things Premier League and as such we expect him to score 100% when we mark his results in May. Even if one of his answers is Emmerson Boyce, who are we to second guess?

Mark The guv’nor brings up the rear and clearly has a problem with Swansea’s prospects, whilst talking up that Southampton mob. Mark backed Grant Holt last season and, similarly, he’s going with Rickie Lambert to turn up with a similar goal spree. Oh, and he still fancies Leighton Baines. Must be the haircut or the record collection.

A or D. I'm going for Cazorla and maybe getting Valencia in GW2 for Mata.

Fairly sure. If not a cameo role against a beleaguered Sunderland could still be like Aguero last season.

    Mata vs Lampard

I have the latter but am becoming increasingly convinced Mata is the one to have for the DGW. Should I look to get him in (I will need to downgrade elsewhere for the extra 0.5) or should I be satisfied with Lampard?

I wouldn't mess your team up to get Mata. I've gone for Mata but that's because I had 1m spare and figured 0.5m was enough.

Yeah thats my thoughts as well. Even though I think Mata is a better pick its probably not worth changing anything significant. However I have Fabio whom I don't really need till GW5 or so. I could downgrade him to a 4m defender. I already have Clyne, would that be worthwhile?

Yeah I have him too but I feel it is necessary to have 3 big hitters in midfield especially as I have Graham. One of the mids might as well be a Chelsea player that can change to a United mid for GW2

This is really doing my head in as well. Always had Mata in but have gone with Lamps now because I could see Mata being rested for one of the games as crazy as that may sound this early in the season. RDM mentioned giving him some rest at some point as he did he have quite the busy summer. Lamps also on PKs and will surely split FKs with Mata so could go either way really. Pick one and regret not picking the other one is how it usually goes!

The thing is Mata won't be rested till the international break in september. You kind of have to read the lines a bit in what RDM meant. He will be nailed on for the DGW

Add Nani to the mix and things get really interesting. Ade is expected to go to Spurs but he will try and get as much out of City as he can muster with regard to getting more wages on top of his Spurs wages.

Like a lot of you on here I have Piennar but don't have any Villa coverage. Lambert will bring a real attacking intent to the Villa side and I fear going without attacking coverage. Both Everton and Villa have good fixtures but which is the better option?

Everton: MUN*, avl, wba, NEW, swa, SOT

A Villa: wha*, EVE, new, SWA, sot, WBA

Interestingly they all play the same teams bar the first fixture in the opening 6 games

I would say Pienaar because he is the heart beat of Everton's attack. But on the other hand, you shouldn't exclude Nzog, I see him going to be a very dangerous attacking threat also. BTW, ur score last season looks impressive, wanna join my league for 2050 pts+ xD

All in all, I would say go for Pienaar just because he is the MAIN man for Everton's attack, Im sure he'll be involved in nearly all of their attack- and he's only 6.5!

Can't have 3 big hitting mids though If I do that I have money to spend so surely its better to have Cazorla/Chelsea mid over a mid priced player

    IM GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!

heres what ive changed and tell me im mad.

    Green, Davis

    Lescott, Zabaleta, Rafael, Gunter, Demel

    Bale, Lamps, Ramires, Nzogbia, Gibson

Torres, Tevez, Graham + 3 mil

green/davis will give me a home keeper every week

after gw2, gunter and demel rotate home/away for a long time, and overall for most of the season. this allows a guaranteed home defender that can come in for a rotated city player or if/when rafa gets dropped.

bale, torres, lamps, tevez, graham are obvious selections.

ramires is a dgw investment, short term player that can be switched out for any 6.5 or less mid that may impress.

nzogbia is hated by all but i cant help but love his fixtures and grahams that allow me to put them out there every week and bench a 5th mid for quite a few weeks.

gibson is being overlooked and i dont know why. to me, he makes the perfect emergency sub. evertons a good side with good but not great fixtures for a long stretch. he has potential to become a bigger attacking threat and certainly more prone to a 3 point game vs a 2 pointer.

in about 8 hours im going torres->rvp

gw3 i will probably ditch lamps and attempt to bench Ramires, but may dump both for a hit, seeing as i dont find ramires a long term investment anyway, and i will likely lose money on him.

thats what i got, sorry i had to get it out on paper. thoughts?

      My two cents:

      1) Safety over gw 1-5 - Pretty good, as the only concerns are Tevez & Rafael. Worth it.

      2) DGW coverage - 4 quality players. Excellent.

      3) gw3 squad -

      Davis
      Lescott, Zabaleta, Rafael (?)
      Bale, Nzogbia, Gibson
      Tevez (?) Graham

+ 2 players you bring in with your 2 FTs. Not bad either.

I'd be a tad worried in case any other squad member gets injured/loses out in the 11, you might have to take a hit. Might be a good idea to think of 3 DGW in-squad players + federici.

i disagree. i think if you go cheap keepers home/away rotation is essential. Granted these clubs wont be amongst the leaders in CS no doubt, but when they do get them, almost all of them wille be at home. lets say they both keep 7 CS all season. well id say 6 of each will be at home, giving me 12 CS. not to blow up stats in FFS, but they have DDG projected for 11 CS. Someone if you own, you arent rotating. add in the extra money that if spent elsewhere properly, it can more than make up for things.

    DDG- Fed
Terry- Zab - Hang - Cuellar - Demel
    Bale - Lamps - Pienaar - Michu - Noble
    Tevez - Torres - Pog

    2.5 in the bank

Terry over cole- if you can afford Terry go for it for bonus points and goal treat.
Pog-so tempting for double but after that what is the plan? two transfers to get rid of him or bench and lose valuable forward slot. Graham is better imo

Terry to Cole save .5. Do this and move pog to graham. Leaves u still 2.0

i just cant back pogrebnyak beyond his double, and it just doesnt seem worth it. graham is already a great value showing consistency from a budget striker position which isnt easy to come by, PLUS the fixtures are fantastic, PLUS hes in red hot form right now.

pog may look like the right choice by the middle of next weej, but graham should make you happier long term.

Morning folks! Here's what I've sembled.

    Federici
    Cole Zaba Fabio
    Bale Mata Larsson Noble
    Aguero Torres Graham
Subs – DDG Michu Bennett Clyne

    Bank = Zilch

Thinking of using my 2 FTs in gw3, to get Roo/RVP for Torres depending on the situation at OT.

    Thoughts?

Noble at home vs a leaky Villa (who love conceding penalties)

Nope, Fabio plays LB. Nelsen or Onouha will lose out.

rock solid for an aguero team vs a tevez team.

i like the commitment to two swansea attack, i just didnt have the cajones to do it.

Yea Fuz, I'm confident the Graham + Michu combo will shine under Laudrup like his previous ventures - bargains of the season. The focus in the Liberty has quite shifted focus to the attack and our investments need to match them!

i just havent seen michu actually play yet to be honest, that and wanting to spread the risk around some. Otherwise id love to stick him in for nzogbia.

Ive been fighting michu/petric vs nzogbia/ graham for about 2 weeks now, and at the end of the day i figure, go with what you know. hopefully the nzogbia/bent linkup wnt be so shabby either.

      Good solid team.

Seeing as you've got Graham, not tempted by Pienaar or N'Zogbia?

Not too much until I see more of them.
Also, I need Michu to step up for gw3 and he seems to be the best option in that range for the GW.

Too pricey with Fabio at 4.5, but I think QPR will be reasonably solid at the back this season.

Both have players I wouldn't want - I'm not convinced by Jenkinson, Allen (well not this early), Walters or Pog. Neither look bad teams and aren't too cookie cutter though 🙂

      not going rafael then aatish?

im down on both at this point but id go DDG

i know friedel is a cheap route to spurs defence but im not confident about them right now keeping things clean. i think it best to get a spurs defender, yes more money, but 3 of them are nailed on with legit attacking ability. spurs could still look for another keeper before the window.
