The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 10 – Saturday Part Two

City’s unbeaten run stretches to 10 games but their toils in front of goal continue, with a goalless draw at Upton Park. Sergio Aguero is handed a sub role yet again, while Andy Carroll draws yet another blank for the hosts:

On the Up

City Defence
This evening’s goalless draw maintained the champions’ recent upturn in defensive resilience. It’s three clean sheets and just one goal conceded in the last four Gameweeks now for Roberto Mancini’s men – the likes of Chelsea and United have one clean sheet apiece in the last six, by comparison.

West Ham Defence
A first clean sheet in six was just rewards for the home side’s resilient efforts. Sam Allardyce will be buoyed by his team’s ability to nullify City’s threat but with Guy Demel still sidelined and James Tomkins missing out through injury, the Hammers boss will be hoping James Collins can shake off a knock which forced him off towards the end, given their upcoming schedule.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
With a vital Champions League game against Ajax in midweek, Aguero was benched yet again for this evening’s trip to Upton Park. Roberto Mancini started with three of his four forwards and while the Argentine was afforded some game time late on, he has now been omitted from the City first XI in three of the past four Gameweeks – despite his obvious capabilities, Aguero has simply become far too frustrating a Fantasy option right now, with his manager’s up front rotation dramatically curtailing his appeal.

Andy Carroll
His loan move to West Ham, which saw the towering centre-forward reunited with Sam Allardyce, was hailed as the perfect fit. The Hammers’ tactics seemed tailor-made for Carroll, with delivery from wide guaranteed to create chances aplenty in the air but it hasn’t quite transpired as Allardyce would have hoped. Another blank today means Carroll has just one assist in six appearances since making his way to Upton Park.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

No. His price rise was insane but if you have him, keep him. Mata or Hazard look like getting something every game. One 2-pointer doesn't mean he's done.

One of the best baskets there is, though. The only team that are scoring for fun at the mo, and their fixtures look amazing. I'm looking at Roo+RVP myself.

    Baines Wisdom Cuellar Demel Wilson
    Mata HBA Bale Michu Sterling
    Berbatov RVP Ba

0.7 in bank, how to improve my defence?

I have 2 free transfers and providing Mata is fit no major issues. Thinking I should do Jelly to Ba and save the other free. Have no Newcastle coverage, have Baines for Everton and their fixtures turn nasty soon.

I know it could backfire but Jelly's been pants recently. I disagree about the fixtures, Everton have 3 goods games then it's time to ship them. Newcastle have a longer run if nice games and Ba has more form than Jelly, even though Everton are playing better.

I normally play safe and take everything into consideration but this time i'm gonna take the leap and draft in Fellaini for Pienaar! Fellaini is just playing so much closer to goal than Pienaar. I reckon he'll outscore him over the season even though he will more than likely get that illusive yellow the first game I bring him in..

I think Mata's value makes him slightly better in my humble opinion. For these reasons...he is on set pieces = good assist potential, also takes a mean free kick. He is involved as much as Hazard in attacks...he is getting more assists from creative passing (rather than Hazard's lucky assists) He has scored more goals than Hazard from open play. Hazard only has pens when Lampard isn't playing. I have no doubt Hazard will be an amazing FPL player over the season...but the value and the fact that they are so equal in performance makes me pick Mata.

Is RVP a must for next GW (away at Villa)?

Can't get him unless I take an 8 point hit... something along the line of Gibbs, Hazard/Mata and Berbs -> Cameron, McAnuff and RVP.... or I could wait one more week and take only a 4 point hit to do the transfer.

    Thoughts?

Here's my thoughts about it...as I'm considering the same thing. Fellaini is clearly going to rocket in price this week...and if I don't buy him he will be unobtainable as a result (i.e in a straight swap)

I'm thinking that...yes he has a ban hanging over his head...but once that ban comes into play...you just use your benched player to compensate for it. And as he will be flagged...his price will stay relatively the same...so planning to get him AFTER his ban might not be that wise as he will be overpriced by then permanently...does this make sense?

Fellaini is just permanently in the box and on the end of things...I've enjoyed Pienaar's steady points but it's clear how dangerous Fellaini can be when he's pushed that far forward. What I'm thinking is it might be worth the gamble to get him at 7m (still relatively cheap..) and hope that he does turn out to be worth it...

Basically, if he goes up to 7.3m+...I'm not sure how I can get him in...or whether I'd want to pay a higher premium.

Pienaar will get more assists but Fellaini will get more goals & goals = Bonus points. I think i'll go for it!

That is the key thing...Goals = baps...

+1 This is my thinking...I'm happy enough to bench Fellaini one week if he delivers the goods...and as you said...he's guaranteed for next week anyway...

Jussi if Newcastle look frail tomorrow. Might do the same, but Foster away to Wigan seems slightly safer (but not if they play like they did against Spurs)

My transfer decision is about how to get Rafael and it results in different MF.

    A: Hazard + Pienaar
    B: Mata + Fellaini

    - Mata is injured and Fellaini is one card away from a ban. But B looks FFS choice.
    - Getting Hazard back will be quite difficult as his price remain 10.3m
    - Pienaar seems less potential than Fellaini

    Which way to go?

Sorry.. May I change the choices a bit? Please help.

      A: Rafael ; Hazard + Pienaar
      B: Rafael ; Mata + Fellaini
      C: Evans ; Hazard + Fellaini

Is Evans a comparable alternative to Rafael?

If Southampton gets relegated (most likely they will) what players do you think are going to stay in EPL teams?

    Lallana
    Ramirez
    Clyne

Suspect Lallana would stay, just had a kid, family settled down here - he already stayed in League One. Lambert and Ramirez would likely be off though, and possibly Schneiderlin and Davis (Steve, not Kelvin).

Alreet lads. I want to get in Ba and Rooney, for Suarez and Defoe. I only have one ft. And I will need a hit to get rooney. How should I work this?

    1) Take the hit this week, and do Kolarov + Suarez > Cameron + Rooney (play rooney v avl, lambert v SWA, bench Defoe). Then get Ba in the following week

    2) Get Ba for Defoe this week (play ba v WHM, lambert SWA and Suarez at che), then take the hit the following week to get rooney in for nor

    3) Just get rooney intime for his home games (no hit)

    4) Take an 8 pointer this week

Hmm, doubtful I think. But in all fairness, last time I looked Fulham don't seem to have clear runs of fixtures, a quite balanced fixture list I believe (unlike the likes of Swansea, West Ham, United etc.)
