The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 10 – Saturday Part Two

City’s unbeaten run stretches to 10 games but their toils in front of goal continue, with a goalless draw at Upton Park. Sergio Aguero is handed a sub role yet again, while Andy Carroll draws yet another blank for the hosts:

On the Up

City Defence
This evening’s goalless draw maintained the champions’ recent upturn in defensive resilience. It’s three clean sheets and just one goal conceded in the last four Gameweeks now for Roberto Mancini’s men – the likes of Chelsea and United have one clean sheet apiece in the last six, by comparison.

West Ham Defence
A first clean sheet in six was just rewards for the home side’s resilient efforts. Sam Allardyce will be buoyed by his team’s ability to nullify City’s threat but with Guy Demel still sidelined and James Tomkins missing out through injury, the Hammers boss will be hoping James Collins can shake off a knock which forced him off towards the end, given their upcoming schedule.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
With a vital Champions League game against Ajax in midweek, Aguero was benched yet again for this evening’s trip to Upton Park. Roberto Mancini started with three of his four forwards and while the Argentine was afforded some game time late on, he has now been omitted from the City first XI in three of the past four Gameweeks – despite his obvious capabilities, Aguero has simply become far too frustrating a Fantasy option right now, with his manager’s up front rotation dramatically curtailing his appeal.

Andy Carroll
His loan move to West Ham, which saw the towering centre-forward reunited with Sam Allardyce, was hailed as the perfect fit. The Hammers’ tactics seemed tailor-made for Carroll, with delivery from wide guaranteed to create chances aplenty in the air but it hasn’t quite transpired as Allardyce would have hoped. Another blank today means Carroll has just one assist in six appearances since making his way to Upton Park.

Loads of Fellaini transfers in tonight I guess.

Then next week he'll get a 1 pointer and Pienaar will score and everyone will be changing back again!

But pretty sure when he's fit he plays behind Jelly always? And no mid-week fixture?

He looks like a brilliant swap for Nolan for me, +a good cash maker.

I'm one of those doing Pienaar -> Fellaini. For a similiar price Fellaini has far superior stats and plays much closer to goal, it makes sense.

Pienaar will also do well though..

Fellaini got lucks tonight with 6 shots and 4 shot on targets, usually he delivered 5-7 shots with only 1 shot on target, that's why he always get less bonus points.

    Rafael

    Or

    Sagna ??

My thoughts are rafael has more CS potential, sagna maybe edges it in attacking potential but close! and has his place nailed on, where as rafael may come under threat, and sagna is also .7 cheaper..

    Tough choice

If you look at Man United's next ten fixtures, excluding mci and NEW, I feel it is a no brainer. Has better CS potential, has 2 goals and 2 assists so far and with upcoming teams added to attacking potential (better than Sagna's) I would definately go with him. Act quickly he is now £6.1 and looks like he will rise again.

Disregarding fixtures, I would go for RVP + Berba, over Rooney + Ba, but Ba's fixtures are SO GOOD, and berba's are a bit crap. And I am a fixtures man. Also, i've lost loads of ground and rooney would be a bit of a differential.

If I learned one thing last season, was that those who did not have RVP failed. You need A LOT of differentials and then A LOT of luck for them to work to bypass getting RVP in to your team. I love him, he's so reliable like last season.

But RVP was a lot cheaper last season. And the main man for arsenal. I don't argue that he isn't reliable. Just that you are paying top dollar for that reliability. Basically if he scores EVERY game it is about par for the price. So at the moment his form is nothing to worry about for non RVP owners.

Though his form + upcoming run of fixtures is a big worry. I've decided that I can't go without one of the big two. I really want Ba, but do I want him enough to sacrifice RVP for Rooney?

Get Ba another way. Can't be too hard. I would personally downgrade Lolarov and Santon, and rotate your remaining defender spot with you fielding Rafael and Baines each week.

I hear this a lot. I think his reliability which allows for more often than not safe captain choices makes him slightly more than worth it. Was he not only 1mil cheaper to start with last season? I reckon if he achieves what he did last season, this season (looking like it so far) then it will be the same as last season - a case of falling behind with blank-drawing captain choices for those with no RVP.

I dont know why this guy is trying to pull out reasons against rvp. Had so many chances today. Rooney plays deeper with him around. I heard rooney offered him the pk but he turned it down. 1 million is a small price to pay to retain the most consistent captain option.

Ignore RVP at your peril. Anything could change next week, rooney could score 5 and persie a blank. But fact is it probably won't, and rvp will probably continue in his new role as the focal point and main goal scorer

I just got Berba in mainly because at 7.1 he's great value and not many others around there are going to compete as they're not on pens and aren't as creative as he is generally. 3 goals and 2 assists is excellent form for the minutes he's played. Fulham are free-scoring too. But I believe if Ba stays fit then he's hard to beat. That's why I have both now.

I have to say I was intrigued by AVB's words today after the match. Seemed to suggest that Dempsey was playing practically up front for him and that he swapped out Defoe for Adebayor because he felt Dempsey was doing the better job up front. I know he hasn't set the world on fire just yet but he might actually prove to be a huge differential later on...I can see him matching if not bettering Bale's goal tally this season. If he's in the box and pushed forward I don't see why not. Going to keep a close eye on him because when he's good he's brilliant (memories of braces/hat-tricks last season)

In summary...Bale's great but he's a winger for the most part who scores stunning goals....Dempsey...if he was to be nailed on in that role with Ade/Defoe rotating...he could be basically OOP. AVB looks like he is pretty stubborn with his tactics so he might continue with one striker and Dempsey feeding off them.

But I am curious as to why you benched him this week, perhaps as you though he would not play, in which case ditch him and get a nailed on striker so you can play 3 up top week in week out. Strikers more likely to score points than defenders after all.

Not YaYa as he plays week in week week out but try to get another player for him soon.

I would say Aguero, the priciest player in the game who is getting rotated a lot. Not worth it until they get knocked out of Champions League.

    FPL thought for the day....

If you own RVP, having demba Ba is essential!

Given United's strong fixtures, I can see SAF resting RVP for a game or 2. Which is why you need another strong VC as back up if that were to happen. Ba is the perfect candidate over the next 5-6 GWs.

    Am i making sense?

      Yeah.

We have to see if VP starts against Braga. If he does i'm afraid he might not start against Villa.

However Ferguson said United won't lose a league for goal difference anymore.

I agree, and can see RVP getting rested, ironic with him being deemed a must for this run of fixtures. If I was Fergie I would do it the minute the game is won with a few extra goals.

I understand your thinking and that's why I have both...and I've captained Ba twice and he's scored both times. I really don't see RVP being rested much though personally. Even if he plays against Braga...I don't know why Fergie would rest him...he's someone who thrives on playing games...I think that Wigan game was just the perfect time to rest him as they were starting their CL campaign and he had just come back from internation duty...and even then he played him for 20 minutes.

    Any Hammers fans about?

Want to know if McCartney is nailed on. At 3.9, he's a steal esp. when he rotates with Stoke despite his bad fixtures. If I'm not mistaken, he's a LB and he has started the last 4 games so is he in covering for an injury or is he making that position his own?

Any info is appreciated, cheers in advance 🙂

Yeah, that's my concern, that he is only playing to cover an injury.

Look at their fixtures. Would steer clear for a while. A CS against Man City doesn't happen often.

I just want a cheap nailed on defender. The fact that he rotates well with Cameron is an added bonus. There's not many defenders out there that are less than 4.0 and are nailed on. Also, when their fixtures lighten up, I would be happy to play him unlike guys like Gorkss, Clyne, Barnett etc

Fullback's are an area of weakness for West Ham - but McCartney is the first choice LB (Demel is first choice RB). Matt Taylor played a few games there last season but he's considered a more attacking option so I cant see that happening too often this season. The bottom line is that McCartney is a pretty safe bet for playing time at the moment (just be weary of those fixtures!)

Alright, doing Yaya to Valencia. Anything I should be aware of?

No.....i am actually seriously considering Bale>Valencia. My worry would be spending 8.0+ on a midfielder who has yet to score a goal this season and no BAPS.

His upcoming fixtures will be the time he scores then. 😆

For the first time this season I'm happy with my frontline. RVP, Ba and Berb are a nice combo. Anyone feel there's a better one out there?
