The Big Numbers – Gameweek 10

Another unplayable performance from Marouane Fellaini, ably supported by a string of outstanding Everton displays, lights up this weekend’s Big Numbers analysis, while the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Christian Benteke, Nicky Shorey, Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez crash the party. Here’s our choice of the key statistics on show in the Gameweek so far…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      He will keep his spot. He is well worth it imo as he seems to be the most dangerous at corner time. Rafael is playing really well too and would be more worth it if you had a strong feeling he will keep his spot at RB and not be rotated.

    36 very poor, seeing as I had most of that by 2pm Saturday through RVP (c) and Santi!!! Clyne subbing for Mata tonight....god help me on that one!

    Glad I didn't get Bale now, as he has two tough games. Not sure I trust Arsenal or Spurs, thinking of getting Tony V for Santi next week then I'll be doubling on Chels (Haz/Mata) and Utd (RVP/Tony V) and Tevez for City cover.

    Thoughts?

      Tony V's stats are less than impressive. Comes out worse than Nasri, Bale, Cazorla. Also rotation risk due to Fergies diamond that he tried a few times.

        True. Will monitor it. Good value at 8.6 though. But I got Santi at 9.0 so happy with that. Gone off Bale especially as he's now 9.8. Too much for me in a flakey team. Might sit tight until Silva is fit actually and maybe trade Tevez. We'll see...

      I think you need one of Shawcross/Huth/etc as Stoke are as tight as you can get at present, outside of Arsenal/Chels/City prices.

      I like Shawcross as he is 100% nailed, cheaper than Huth who actually doesn't score much these days, and gets 2 or 3 a season himself. Bonus magnet too.

      I have Pienaar, but admit Fellaini is the better option. Far more attacking, but having said that Pienaar is a steady eddy for points, assist and bonus here and there. Good value for the 6.5 he cost me. Very tempted by both once Fellaini's inevitable ban is over (he's on 4 yellows).

    Just had a look at the Ful-Eve highlights. Dont have Berba or Ruiz, but the first one should def be a Ruiz goal and Berba assist. Not an OG, the ball was going in as it is.

    I know people have been talking about it, but am shocked there has been no query or clarification for changes to the same.

      How was it going in, it hit the post, then Howard's back, and then went in.

      No it was an own goal because the ball rebounded off the post onto the back of the goalie then into the goal. Had the goalie not been there it simply would have rebounded back into play.

        Technically had the goalie not been there it would've gone straight in, but I still think it's an OG. 😉

          How? Are you saying had the goalie not been there, he would have hit the target more easily? Lol!!

          Its quite clearly an own goal. I dont see where the debate comes into it.

            See below--one thing no observers disagree about was that had Howard not nudged it onto the post it would have flown directly into the goal. That is not in debate. The only debate is about whether that counts as an OG.

      I'd be more frustrated if Berbatov had layed the ball off to Ruiz to smash it from open play... but as it was one of those slightly insincere win-a-freekick assists - I'm less bothered somehow.

        It was definitely going in. Howard nudged it onto the post. There are obviously disagreements about what should count as an OG, but for me a shot on its way into the goal was interfered with by the goalie in what was ultimately an elaborate but failed attempt to make a save. The guys on Goals on Sunday agree and thought it was an obvious Ruiz goal. But some have a plausible argument that when Howard pushed it onto the post Ruiz's shot ended--ie, it was a successful, not failed, save--and we start over with a phantom ball coming off the post which Howard than scored into his own net. It all comes down to what you think counts as an OG--did Howards deflection to the post end the shot or was it all part of a failed attempt to save it? It's all abstraction so just pick one and lets not keep arguing. Oh, and I own Berb. 😉

          IMO it was an OG. The original shot on target is irrelevant since it went in by another means.

          I'm not a fan of this assist for the man winning the free kick anyway. It's an unnecessary relaxing of the assist rule which is already quite ridiculous at times.

          I'm a Berbatov owner.

            I agree with your second point, obviously not the first. If I were making the rules Berb would not get an assist for essentially getting fouled. But as long as it is the rule I don't mind arguing for the points! 🙂

    I know it’s early and I’m probably going to get some injuries until then, but which upgrade should I do for GW12. I’ve already used my free trannie for this coming GW so I’m planning ahead:

    I have 1.2m in the bank so:

    A) Fed -> Bego (hey, I’m going to have to do this transfer sometime)
    B) Kaca -> McAnuff/Sterling/Maloney (simply, he’s not nailed-on)
    C) Lambert -> Berb/Crouch/Lukaku

    Jaask, Federici
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Santi, Fellaini, Michu, Taarabt
    RVP, Ba, Berbatov
