The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Eight – The Manchurian

Granville may well be exotic but he’s not Manchurian, despite what the spellcheck told me a few weeks back. He’s also a happy man. Winning on all fronts, he’s dishing out “one helluva beating” to yours truly right now.

Reveling in his position of power, the Hungarian Mancunian brings me to task on my jerky knee transfers, with the regular ScoutCast favourites scattered around that particular discussion.

Get your ears around our foreign tongues via this link or stream the nonsense through the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Nay. Sideways move for me as none of them look like scoring that many points. I think Silva coming back improves the potential returns of the City forwards therefore if you want City coverage get Aguero or Tevez imo.

Okay, is is his hindquarters healed up for the weekend then?

Will Wenger be able to put contract issues aside and give Walcott the start?

I really want Walcott. When he plays, he is golden. It's just this injury as well as Wenger's apparent hesitance in playing him that has me worried.

I would really appreciate some advice on transfers! I have two freebies and 0.1 in the bank. I would like to move Pienaar this week, but I really can't do much with the coin... I want to keep Bale/Caz for the derby that is almost ALWAYS a goal fest.

That leaves me with one option it seems, and that is to downgrade baines.... madness with his next two, right?

    Bego/Foster
    Baines/Raf/Huth/Gorkss/Demel
    Pienaar(sells at 6.7)/Bale/Cazorla/Taarabt/Sterling
    RVP/Berbs/Suarez

Can someone see a single transfer I could do this week just to prep for next? I mean, Taarabt is good to go next week, but surely he plays against an out of form SOT squad this week?

See where you're coming from and agree.

To be honest I want both Silva and Mata in the longer term, but for this week Silva presents the better option, in my opinion.

I always see Silva as a better player than Cazorla too, as well as one who is playing in a better team with strikers who can finish for fun. There's only so long they can keep flattering to deceive, I think they'll score several this weekend and Silva will be at the crux of at least one of those.

I'm not concerned by him, he's playing where I want him to and getting into the positions I want him to get into. He's talented enough that goals will come against the lesser teams that he'll be facing.

Cazorla, on the other hand, is far too deep and isn't getting involved whatsoever. So for me, he's had it.

Agree with you on Cazorla. My FT tomorrow is very likely to be him to Silva. Arsenal's fixtures are great though... Walcott and Giroud firmly on the radar.

Not particularly as I'm gaining it elsewhere. The only concern is he starts to get shifted back a bit, but he was well far forward against us last week and caused us plenty of problems. You can say that doesn't always translate into goals and fantasy points, but then I noticed the same thing with Fellaini against Liverpool but didn't get him in. Two weeks later and he's in my team, possibly too late.

I MAY keep him beyond the United game, depending on how he performs against Southampton. If he gets something, he's definitely staying. If he doesn't I will be inclined to ship, particularly if Fellaini and / or Suarez get booked in their respective fixtures.

It's not a problem for me to put Maloney in against Reading (h) and bench him for that week. As long as he's getting and creating chances and his fixtures remain promising, he's a keeper.

I've started to look for replacements as he's not cheap enough to rot on the bench, and I expect him to rotate with any of my front 7 depending on fixtures.

Sterling's value has sky rocketed and I like to find a bargain, so Kaka, Maloney, Gardner and Ireland are all on the cards for me.

        Rationale for Ba:
        * Swansea are poor away from home and defensively in general
        * Newcastle are 'wounded' from last week's defeat, they'll want to make amends
        * Ba is at the forefront of all of their attacking threat
        * He looked threatening last week despite Newcastle playing poorly
        * Swansea have a couple of players out and a make-shift backline
        * They are typically poor in the air and at dealing with set pieces, Ba will capitalise on this

Newcastle are without Cabaye and Guttierez. That's the engine of their midfield and as a Bad owner, it is worrying. Can't see Newcastle scoring more than 1 goal a game at the moment.

We'll see how they go then. Having seen Swansea at the Britannia they were diabolical defensively. That's not to say they just had a bad game, but it's one of the key things I'm judging it off.

Newcastle are always dangerous and threatening. If they get balls into the box, he'll knock in at least a goal.

            3-1 for me.

He's an incredible striker, I wish Stoke would have signed him.

Newcastle at home are a very good outfit. If they were away to Swansea it would be a different story. I can't see anything other than a comfortable Newcastle victory, especially given that they lost last week.

They'll be under pressure to perform.

Taarabt is the only one who looks like scoring for QPR - he should have had at least a hat-trick last week - and they don't come any easier than Southampton at home...

look at QPR's number of goals per match throughout the season. You best bet he scores their only goal, because there wont be many. and een if he scores 1, you're not looking at a very big score - in the same week united play norwich, and plenty of other favourable fixtures. not for me.

He may look like the only one scoring for QPR, but QPR has scored the second lowest amount of goals this season..

Put a card up at a big price so your buyer can locate the card easily.
Then he clicks the trade offer option and offers the actual amount you want him to sell him for.

I think they've improved tactically and tightened up because they couldn't win a game. The Chelsea and Fulham defeats are forgiveable. The Liverpool one is hard to explain...but Liverpool seem to be their bogey team. Or at least Suarez.

I'm having the same dilemma. The thing that's nagging at me is that Cazorla has more goals in him. And it's a high tempo game against Spurs coming up. If it wasn't for his price fall I'd definitely keep for one week more. But I'm a bit annoyed he might fall.

He plays too deep for a player of that price. He was fortunate against Man Utd to score and I should have got rid there and then, but I persevered and I'm thinking the same thing a week later.

Silva or Mata are the options, for me it's whether those two present more value than Bale.

Mata is clearly a better option than Santi because of his style of play. I still think Cazorla can be effective in FPL as he does have a knack for scoring goals and probably could score more if he wanted. Walcott might be better value though if he's on set pieces too like the last game.

Silva I'd love to have but I'm not sure he has as many goals in him as Cazorla.

The kid has only been a massive supporter for a few years and he generally acts like Liverpool are still superior to United in every way. I wouldn't mind someone who saw their success clinging to old ways but he's only acting like that for the sake of it. As for being bitter, I'm also a Borussia Dortmund fan and have watched Bayern be the dominant team for years, I'm not bitter over it at all. What's more, United don't win everything every year. Not by a long shot.

I think Benitez managed to do a huge amount of damage, convinced that he single handedly drove a number of extremely talented players away from the club, even Torres. Not a fan of Borini as a signing but I think Rodgers could do well if he's given time. That's the real issue.

problem for rodgers is the squad is the worst its ever been and i reckon the owners will be sceptic of splashing cash after what kenny did. he's going to have to be very smart in the transfer windows because also now liverpool cant attract big names like in the past because of their position. so its a gigantic challenge for rodgers.

Plenty of young talent they can still lure in combined with a few cheap oldies for experience. I honestly think that Berbatov would have been a brilliant buy, he's the type of player that loves a brilliant support striker, exactly what Suarez is. Just little examples like that, buy some older and cheap talent and combine it with a few youngsters. In the youth groups there are still some players who are very talented. For example, Morgan and Yesil. Both very capable strikers. McLaughlin and Ibe are very talented too and Ibe is only 16!

Yeah the youth is looking up, dunno what it would have been like if the kids weren't coming through so well haha. the academy's success is actually from benitez, when he overhauled it. he also signed suso, sterling and shelvey who are looking promising. Yesil i think has potential based on his youth record for germany, but its hard to tell at that age and experience how far they can go. Berba would be great anywhere really imo, he is class. but yes he is perfect for what LFC need (a natural goalscorer). although they need a few more of those 😛

It definitely is and in fairness Rafa did well on some of those (I don't rate Shelvey but Suso and Sterling are good.) Yesil could be very good I think but, as you say, it's hard to tell. Yeah I just think a front line of Suarez and Berbatov would have been extremely formidable! Perhaps a January signing of someone such as Huntelaar would help in that area (seeing as he's already played with Suarez at Ajax.)

Benitez was a bad man-manager because he is very stubborn. he would never have won the prem because of his stubborn attitude especially if he got tactics wrong he would never concede that. but he is smart as hell in football, he made LFC a superpower in his time there. got 80-odd points ina season once too, which is unheard of for liverpool.

Huntelaarand a right winger will do. and preferably 1 more striker for the bench. and maybe 1 more winger so that downing never has to play 😛 hell, pretty much need a whole team haha. But yes huntelaar would be perfect imo, there is enough reativity in the team but just laking a genuine goalsorer.

The man knows football, no question there. He seems to not understand players at times is what I find odd. I believe he said about Alonso that if they signed Gareth Barry he'd much prefer to have him than Xabi. I think that made Xabi decide that Liverpool was no longer for him. Silly little remarks like that can have such an effect on a player's ego that it drives them away.

Yeah very petty things. Even subbing torres/gerrard at times when they needed a goal, haha. Lots of instances where it almost seemed as if he was intentionally trying to piss the players off. he had a strong belief in himself and arrogance about him that i think passed onto the players on the pitch, that they believed they were the best because he insisted so. same in ways to fergie, mourinho, pep, they have that same arrogance/confidence. he did do some bonkers man-management at times though. he is still blamed for alonso's departure, very bad to treat a class player like that.

Confidence is part of the game, from players to managers. Sure look at Ibra's overhead the other night, you'd have to have massive ego to even attempt something like that. It was the man management that let him down at times and it's a shame for the EPL. I hate when really gifted players leave clubs in the EPL for La Liga, especially when they feel unappreciated. That's why I'm still somewhat disappointed Alonso left and why I'm extremely disappointed that Arsenal let Song leave. Both class players who deserved more praise from their club I feel.

they are selling too often, pretty much every season they ash in on players. will be interesting to see what happens with their walcott situation, that could be another one. he may be inconsistent but at 23 when he is just coming to his supposed best years, for them to release him now after all that is pretty bad. of course that depends if wenger thinks he will develop into what he coulda/shoulda been. might even end up at liverpool (his boyhood club), who knows! either way i think arsenal will keep selling where they can.

Unfortunately true, they can't hang on to players. What's a real shame is Song has said he wanted to stay at Arsenal but it was made clear to him that his time with them was pretty much over! Stupid stuff.

    Krul (Begovic)
    Wisdom Baines Demel (Cuellar Cameron)
    HBA Fellaini Bale Mata (Sterling)
    RVP Ba Berbatov

So after much deliberating I have decided to save my transfer, are we all in agreement?

Thinking of switching RVP > Hernandez and Sammy Ameobi > Suarez for a 4 point hit.

    Worth it?

I know. This is what this game does to us. I'd only drop from 105.4 to 105.3 but then there's Suarez's 4 yellows to consider. Ahhhh.

Make sure your 2nd goalkeeper plays every match. Lindegaard will play some PL matches, but I think De Gea will play most matches. De Gea will surely start on saturday
