The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    What to do

    Bego – Sorenson
    Baines – Nelson – Mertesacker - Fonte - Gorkss
    Mata – Cazorla – Fellaini – Nolan – J.McCarthy
    RVP– Tevez – Berba

Do I need Tevez? Thinking Tev to Suarez, then Caz to Silva next GW.

Asked a couple hours ago - just want another angle before I go to bed. Need to decide before price rises

    Thanks

I'd chill, both moves seem sideways and panicky moves based on price rises aren't ideal.

Berbs fixtures suck. tevez may get rotated but Suarez has his ban to come. Suarez's fixtures from GW 15 convinced me though. I've gone RVP Berb Suarez, but would probably have tevez over berb if could afford him.

Yes it was a poor challenge on Jones I don't think the FA will do anything about it though Martinez did complain about it being missed in the interview after the match. When I saw it though I just thought it was a poor challenge and probably deserved a yellow (doubt the FA will do anything about it).

    I am contemplating this...

Foster> Ruddy (to fund)... Guthrie> Sterling. (That way I can field 11 this week and hold Fellani).

    OR

    Baines> Cuellar to fund Ba> Suarez (-4).

What is best this week as Suarez will continue scoring and go up another .3 this week!

wondering whether to move Baines on next week myself and Cuellar is one I'm taking a look at. Still not sure about that though as I already have Mignolet and think that's enough for Sunderland. Would only take a hit for the second one if price rises are a factor for you. Ba is playing well also.

Think I'm going to get in early and do Fellaini/Taarabt to Walcott/Bench fodder... Think it'll serve me well over the upcoming games!

Ba is still scoring and has a great game week this week.

    Ok try this instead:
Maloney and Baines to Silva and Garrido

I really want Silva and this lets me keep Michu Cazorla Fellaini Sterling.
Baines obviously has a great fixture this week (he's already wasted a lot of those) but I reckon Silva makes up for it..

He's completely vacuous. He states the obvious with no tactical insight. His punditry is the worst I've ever seen on match of the day in all the years I've been watching.

Hansen? The guy who just asked Kompany if they knew about the Utd score in the dressing room, even though the Utd game was played at 5:30.

As for Shearer, nothing more needs to be said about how bad he is.

Gary Neville is the best. I like Souness aswell. Dixon is decent. MOTD have the worst, they are all terrible.

I actually don't mind Hansen, he's quite interesting. Lawrenson is rubbish, Redknapp even worse.

Lee Dixon was great. Disgusted that BBC let him go, they probably did it because he doesn't like Shearer.

Been away for most of the day, what is the general consensus on Suarez after today? 10.2 after tonight, awkward price, are people getting rid of Ba for him? I am leading my mini league and I fear he is a player who could change that if i don't get him.

It's soo hard to get him though.

I could do Huth & Ba to Cuellar & Suarez but, that means i won't be able to afford Theo (Original plan)

I'd much rather have Suarez than Walcott, even if I like Ba for some more games as well.

I think we're maybe losing perspective on Arsenal because how good they were against 10 men when they were completely fired up. I love Walcott as an FPL prospect and it could be a great buy but Suarez is looking sensational. The amount of stuff happening around him is just crazy, and there is nobody else there to steal his points.

It's also about having other forwards who can match him. Ba and Berbatov are doing that for less money.

Are you sticking with Ba then Granville? Newcastle aren't looking too hot right now.

Suarez has narrowed mini mini league lead down from 70odd to 50odd points, without bonus points!

Absolutely, those two are also great options. I personally see their returns diminishing and Suarez keeping this up (more or less) for a while longer yet however. I also think Suarez is a superior option to captain the way things stand right now, which is worth paying extra for.

It's the classic value vs points argument in another player I suppose - we've seen it all season with RVP and now Suarez is entering an, as NBTM said, awkward price range.

I feel the same. I like Ba and his fixture this week is fantastic!

But Suarez is red hot and will rise another .3 this week. I am contemplating a hit and losing Baines to make it happen as it's long term. Worth it? Who knows...

Such a tough choice, good thing about Ba is you can swap him for the likes of Defoe or Giroud. With Suarez, you'll be too scared to get rid.
