Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 12 – Sunday

A red card for Brede Hangeland helps Sunderland raise their game ahead of a favourable run of fixtures. With a double Gameweek 16 and four home matches in the next four on the horizon, Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson, Stephane Sessegnon and Carlos Cuellar all produce the points as the Black Cats win on their travels for the first time this term…

Fletcher Back in Form
Having racked up 39 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his opening four games, Steven Fletcher’s eye for goal and mid-price valuation earned the summer signing plenty investment early on this term. Unsurprisingly, the former Wolves man was unable to maintain his superb scoring rate and after rising to 7.4 had dropped back to 7.0 prior to yesterday’s trip to the Cottage. Sunderland had arrived at Fulham with a mere seven goals to their name – the lowest in the league – though Fletcher’s worth was obvious, having found the net on five occasions. A goal and assist yesterday afternoon means the forward has played a part in seven of his side’s 10 goals and with the maximum FPL bonus points in the bag yet again, he has now produced 15 bonus points – second only to Carlos Tevez’s 16 so far. It’s something of an understatement to say that Martin O’Neill’s side have failed to impress going forward but with a strong run of home fixtures in the next four Gameweeks (WBA, QPR, nor, CHE & RDG) he’s the one man most likely to produce the points, going on his displays so far.

Johnson and Sessegnon Amongst the Points
It’s been an underwhelming start to his career on Wearside but Adam Johnson is starting to suggest he is finally beginning to settle. With James McClean dropped to the bench for the second time in three Gameweeks, the former City winger was shifted to the left, allowing Seb Larsson to shift from the middle out to the right flank against the Cottagers. Having broken his duck against Everton last weekend, Johnson was in the points again, providing a pair of assists and a couple of FPL bonus points for his owners. Two performances are not quite enough to judge his Fantasy potential but with the fixtures so obliging, many are likely to snap up the 6.8 priced midfielder.

With seven goals, 12 assists and 14 bonus points last term, Stephane Sessegnon had been priced at 8.0 this time round but prior to yesterday, he’d been a passenger in the Sunderland side, without a goal or assist in the opening 11 Gameweeks. A superb strike for the visitors’ third had his manager hoping the Benin international can grow in self-belief and start to replicate his form of the previous campaign:

“Confidence is a big thing, and when you see someone like Sessegnon score that type of goal, you hope it helps. He’s been searching for that confidence all season, as has the rest of the team. There were signs of it coming back last week at Everton. We created three great chances in the first half and should have been able to take more than the one we did. We created chances again today and shared the goals around.”

Cuellar on the Radar
With just three goals conceded in their first four home games, O’Neill’s side have been impressive at the back at the Stadium of Light, despite their lack of cutting edge. Ahead of their above-mentioned schedule, investment in Sunderland’s defensive assets looks a likely tactic by many and while fit-again Phil Bardsley could offer potential from right-back, Carlos Cuellar’s goal and 4.5 FPL price tag will surely see the Spaniard pick up plenty new suitors over the next few matches. Cuellar sat third in our Watchlist rankings before Sunday – he’s likely to maintain that rank for several weeks.

Fulham Defensive Woes Continue
The dismissal of Brede Hangeland, for a two-footed challenge on Lee Cattermole, undoubtedly changed the match. Martin Jol will now make do without the Norwegian for the next three Gameweeks as his side travel to Stoke and Chelsea before playing host to Spurs but while Hangeland’s absence will be a real blow, Fulham’s defensive woes have been apparent for some time now. Although their attacking brand of football has allowed Dimitar Berbatov to flourish up front, the Cottagers have now conceded 22 goals in their opening 12 fixtures, only one less than basement-dwellers QPR. On eight occasions they have conceded at least two goals and as the season progresses, their resilience at the back is further slackening – they have now shipped three goals in three of the last four.

Injuries Build up for Jol
With Kieran Richardson sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained against Arsenal last week, Alex Kacaniklic was afforded the chance on the left flank but the young Swede lasted less than half an hour before limping off to be replaced by Hugo Rodallega. Martin Jol then watched on as Bryan Ruiz was forced off on 58 minutes, to be replaced by Mladen Petric – although the latter finished the match, he left the field a couple of times for treatment after notching the Cottagers’ consolation. Post-match, Jol confirmed both Kacaniklic and Ruiz will be out for at least three weeks; his attacking options are severely dented as the schedule begins to pick up pace, with the next three Gameweeks kicking off on November 24, November 27 and December 1 respectively.

I had Johnson for 4 weeks. He did nothing.

I then sold him 2 weeks ago and he has since scored and then assisted twice. Tw@.

He's a decent option IMO, wish I had been more patient with him.

If you were wild carding this week, which would be first three names for each positions
    Defence:
    Midfield:
    Forwards:

    I'm thinking
    Rafael, Cuellar, Gorkks
    Walcott, Bale, Sterling
    Rvp, Suarez, Ba

And would you keep Fellaini if on wc?

Need some advice please. Got two F/T and doing alright but thinking doing one of the following.. Therefore, which one or dp you have any other suggestions to replace Aguero and Ben Arfa?

bale mata fellaini sterling ben arfa
    rvp berb aguero

A.. Aguero and Ben arfa out for Tevez and Caz
    B. Ben arfa out for Michu and save free transfer
    C. Aguero and Ben arfa out for Tevez and Silva
    D. Aguero and Ben arfa out to Suarez and Michu/Walcott
    E. Leave it as Ben Arfa will explode soon and Aguero will score as many points as Tevez!

    Cheers!

Seems ridiculous to me that you want rid of Aguero, particularly when you want to go sideways for Tevez!

I would look at getting rid of just ben arfa, and would want an arsenal player in for him.

In a few weeks, when Fellaini isn't suspended and City are out of the CL:

    A) Fellaini & Berbs
    B) Maloney & Agüero (Maloney rotating with Sterling)

A will be hit or miss while B will be more consistent. Over the course of the season, probably A since you don't know if you're going to be 100 % at rotating Maloney/Sterling.

Touched on it on the last page with my all start Spanish FPL team. Is it any wonder that all of the best FPL guys are Spanish? The influence the Spain/Barcelona style has had on world football has seen many copycats trying to recreate it's awesome potency.

We now have all these top Spanish mids playing for a club and pulling the strings/dictating the style of play.

Michu/Silva/Mata/Cazorla are all now central to their respective clubs.

And now we have Garrido and Enrique in our thoughts...wing backs with an eye for a cross and a touch of the Spanish flair.

Cuellar...a bit like the Pique of Sunderland...robust and frightening to behold... 😀

Arteta is the heart of Arsenal's team and a superb passer.

Hernandez...a winger beginning to show his class.

    DDG...a Llama lookalike.

Is there any end to this Spanish Inquisition? Certainly, nobody expected it!!!

Couple more Spaniards to make a full Spanish squad

Ramis, Chico, Azpilcueta and Rangel all important defenders for their clubs,

Then there's the likes of Jordi Gomez, Ignasi Miquel, Oriol Romeu, Dani Pacheco and Javo Garcia.

      And don't forget Xisco 😉

But seriously, you could put together a great squad of Spaniards just from those in the prem, and it still wouldn't be as good as the one from the Spanish league

      Unfortunately looking for Spanish forwards in FPL the only two seem to be Torres and Suso;
Xisco, Pacheco, and a few others don't appear in FPL squad lists unfortunately.

But a pretty good team is:

      Reina, (De Gea)
      Rangel, Cuellar, Ramis, Enrique (Garrido)
      Cazorla, Mata, Silva, Granero, Michu
      Torres (Suso)

14 solid Spanish players, and if you count Michu as a striker and bring Arteta or Hernandez in, it's even better 😉

Anyone notice how Miyaichi played when he came on? Fast, I expect, but any other insights?

Remember when there was a Miyaichi bandwagon...he actually got some assists. That was funny.

It was quite funny and I was very lucky not to have fallen for it. Hence I'm lining myself up for another fall into the trap ...

Even more hilarious is the Sterling bandwagon this year. He plays on your bench and scores loads of points. It's so funny! RIGHT? I just can't stop finding it amusing...every single time...I'm not affected by it at all...not me...I'm totally cool with it...

Hence I'm looking for a cheap rotation partner for him. Lallana was cack, and too expensive for my new plans

Don't bench him to often, many people bench hi because of his price, perceive him to be bench fodder. This kid is the real deal, people need to watch more football.

Got a question ...Shouldnt Ben Arfa get an assist for his shot before the Demba Ba's goal.
I see it has been given to marvoux for some reason

Forgot to mention this funny story.

Saturday I was watching the United match and went in to put dinner on for me and the girlfriend. Next of all she shouts in "Percy is after scoring!" Ran in with a smile on my face, expecting to see Van Persie celebrating and noticed the score was 1-0 Norwich. She started laughing. Safe to say she went to bed hungry that night.... 😕

    Ba..

1: AP considers to play 4-3-3 more. Is it good or bad for Ba? Positive, I think.
2: Cabaye might be out for 6 weeks. Very negative for team and Ba.
3: Jonas? His injury is also negative.

I've been thinking since Sat for who to keep/ditch between Ba and Berbatov. Both are looking fine in form but their team have injury problems. Would you lose one for Suarez? Who?

right pretty happy with my team at the mo, deciding what to do with my FT?

currently have jussi and demel and was thinking of ditching demel for a few weeks because of the hammers fixtures?

have 4.2m to spend any recommendations?

I know there is not a lot to chose from in that price bracket (I already have Gorkss)...

Sean Morrison - pros - fixtures (bar utd), Double GW, cons - double reading defence
Nicky Shorey - as per morrison
Michael Turner - pros - fixtures, norwich new found form, cons - norwich new found form 🙂
Clyne - pros - good run of fixtures, regular starter. Cons - Southampton are poop, blank week
    Fonte - as per clyne

Bertrand is tempting me should he hold down a starting spot for a few weeks?

    Anyone else I should consider?

Last post for today, too light at the back?

    Bego (Fed)
    Cuellar, Bardsley, Cameron (Wisdom, Gorkks)
    Silva, Bale, Walcott, Puncheon (Fellaini)
    Rvp (C), Suarez, Ba

    0,0 in the bank

Only Rafael and Sterling are the one's I really liked to have, but couldn't afford.

Merely a question, not something I plan to do... If you copied the first placed persons team in FF how well would you do? I know you'd always be a week behind their transfers, but would be interested whether such cheating would mean I actually manage to break into the top 100k for one year only!

On a serious note, I have 2 free transfers, but not sure who to transfer out. i was thinking mitchu, but for who and why?

I've been thinking about how I could bring in Suarez. I already have Arsenal, Stoke, West Ham, and Reading defense. Any insight? Thanks.

    A. Ba > Suarez, Rafael > Garrido/Ridgewell/Cuellar/Wisdom/Demel
    B. Berb > Suarez, Rafael > Demel/Nelsen/Clyne
    C. Ba > Suarez, Sagna >Demel/Nelsen/Clyne
    D. Miss the Suarez Bandwagon

    Jaask/Begovic
    Sagna/Rafael/Cameron/McCartney/Gorkss
    Silva/Cazorla/Mata/Fellaini/Sterling
    RVP/Ba/Berb
