The Big Numbers – Gameweek 17

While Sunday brought a rather tepid conclusion to the weekend’s action, the lack of incident allowed us more time to digest the numbers behind the Gameweek so far. In this latest foray into the depths of our members data, we offer further insight on the performances of Adel Taarabt, Raheem Sterling and David Silva not only for this weekend, but the last four Gameweeks and season so far. As for Glen Johnson, well, we’ll let the numbers do the talking…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Team at the moment for GW18 (BANK = £0.2m, 1 free transfer):

    Foster(NOR)
    Johnson(FUL) Rafael(swa) Santon(QPR)
    Michu(MUN) Sessegnon(sou) Sterling(FUL) Silva(RDG)
    Suarez(FUL) Ba(QPR) Van Persie(swa)

subs - Begovic, Demel, Nelsen, Fellaini

Any suggestions on what to do this week? I have no Chelsea or Spurs cover at the moment so i guess Bale or Mata are both good options. Can't get either without a hit though, reckon it's worth it or just take my chances with the team above and bank a transfer?

How do you see the Chelsea and Spurs games going? Villa's recent resurgence makes that a tougher game for Chelsea than i thought it would have been a couple of weeks ago. Similarly with Spurs, i can't see Stoke being an easy game.

That's true. I still would pick both teams to score at least 2 though, Stoke are good, but they haven't really played a good attacking side away from home (Norwich, West Brom, West Ham, Villa) since United in week 8. And even though they've been up and down, I still think Chelsea are a better team than the likes of Liverpool, who did control the game against Aston Villa.

Yeah that isn't a bad plan i suppose although i'd really prefer 2 FTs next week. I can afford a 0.1 drop on Fellaini without it effecting my selling value so that gives me a bit of leeway

So inspired by that Silva christmas schedule review I took a look at Agueros.

    dec18 Arsenal H full game
    dec21 Stoke H full game
    dec26 West Brom A 74
    jan01 Sunderland A on at 45 (lost 0-1)
    jan03 Liverpool H 71
jan08(cup game vs man utd) full game
jan11(cup game vs Liverpool) full game

So as an analysis it looks like 1 game rest is probably something that Mancini has in the plans for all of his top guys as Aguero probably would not have played vs Sunderland had they been ahead.

Looking at the games where he got less minutes we probably see that the reason for a rest were the cup games, this year they have Watford on Jan 5 so that can be used to make reserves happy. They do have more strikers this year, but id still expect Mancini to use his best striker as much as possible.

Looking at the pattern from last year Id say the rest will come vs Norwich away, as this would be the most logical way of getting the most out of his players while getting them at least a 4 day break each game.

I thought so too. But after reading they have a 4 day rest until the SUN away game, than 3 days rest until NOR away and than 3 day rest until STO away. So my logic was based on Mancini not wanting to play his guys with only 3 days rest in such a compact schedule.

Im not being patrionizing. You just brought out examples of tough matchups that have gone wrong bc of the benching of Tevez in your opinion, whereas they could have ended up that way anyway given the level of the opponents. At the same time Tevez has started many easyer fixtures and failed to produce anything.

Christ, I'm not cherrypicking anything, you claimed he had been benched for the "the important games".

In those games, where he did not start, City did poorly. There are obviously a lot of factors, but the derby showed you the value/worth of Carlos. If you want to think that Kun's the best, fine.

It was similar stuff a page back I think, but it was basically identical to this at least in terms of game time and minutes played. So it seems at least last year his plan was to give 1 game to his reserves.

          Thanks.

Thought this wouldn't happen but I'm swaying towards a punt on Silva, a player I don't really believe at all in for FPL. Feels so easy with the Jan WC to fall back on, and an easy swap to Bale when I want him.

Bale is probably the only big hitting mid who wont get rotated, but he has the suspension issue. Im going all in with Silva and Aguero so I was very interested in this. Im thinking that GW20 might be a rotation nightmare all round. Better get those benches healthy.

              Absolutely.

Only a select few of the big players will get through this period without the random rest.

It will be carnage on Here when RVP gets his, which I am fairly sure he will.

Absolutely, im kind of hoping Rooney wont get his rest given SAFs statement last week on him needing to play to get fitter. Saying that I think Roo is more likely to get an early sub in more than 1 game when they are ahead but RVP more likely to start on the bench making captaining him less risky. Blaah pointess to think about, it will probably come out of the blue 😀

Fellaini just rose. I don't know about anyone else, but this didn't affect my selling price. If he drops 0.2m or 0.3m, i would then lose just 0.1m by keeping hold. Even so, i really can't see him dropping that much, i can see casual Fellaini owners just keeping hold of him. I don't think you should spend hits to get him out unless you don't have adequate replacements.

I'm keeping. If he fell 0.3, you'd lose just 0.2m, not a big deal. You'd then get 2fts to re-structure your team after the week.

Great point. The other great consequence of that price rise is that as a Santi owner and a Mata coveter, I can afford to wait until after tomorrow's match and Wednesday's cup tie and hopefully lose 0.1 maximum as I see what they do. Hate making transfers before all matches are clear.

WBA v. WHM - 0-0. Cole and Brunt with BP, but no WHM defender. WHM were under the kosh all game. Seems like they might save the BP for the attacking players when they were, er, successful. I am waiting to see how many blocks and cut outs Collins and Reid had. Yes, I had Reid in, so bitter.

Hello chaps and chapesses, sorry about the old Rooney 0 prediction, thought De Gea's 2 blocks would just squeeze him out the mix just.
Regarding a possible Myhill and Jaask confusion, whislt Jaask made 1 extra FPL save Myhill made 1 extra save in total if you include crosses caught/claimed, wouldn't look at distribution and things like that. If in doubt 'The Scout' explains all the bps at the end of the gameweek on the FPL site.
