Arsenal v West Ham Boxing Day Game Postponed

Arsenal have this afternoon announced their Gameweek 19 home clash with West Ham, which was scheduled for Boxing Day, has been postponed due to the proposed industrial action on the London Underground.

The Gunners have, however, confirmed the game will now take place on either Wednesday January 23 or Saturday January 26, depending on both sides’ respective third round results in the FA Cup. This affords the pair a double Gameweek in the middle of the FPL winter wildcard window – an enticing scenario for Fantasy managers.

Certainly, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the two sides could exit the FA Cup at the first hurdle. The Gunners travel to Swansea on Sunday January 6, while West Ham play host to Man United the previous day – if they both go out, they would then be free to square up on Saturday January 26. Alternatively, if either of the pair progress, the game will be rescheduled for Wednesday January 23. Both dates will fall in Gameweek 23, which already finds Arsenal travelling to Chelsea, while West Ham playing host to QPR before the rescheduled encounter.

In the short-term, it’s potentially problematic for owners of the likes of Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard has already been drafted in by over 40,000 FPL managers after his 23 point haul at Reading on Monday and with a trip to Wigan to follow, he could be in for another potentially prosperous weekend. Strong benches are more essential than ever right now and while many may be tempted to ship out their Arsenal and West Ham Fantasy assets after this weekend, the pair still have strong fixtures prior to the upcoming double – the Gunners face Newcastle and Southampton after their trip to Wigan, while West Ham’s schedule (rdg, NOR, sun) also looks favourable.

    Okay I'm a bit slow (lazy) when it comes to working these things out, so please can some kind soul advise, in light of the postponed Arse vs Ham game.

    I have Cazorla & Demel and this week have already used my FT to do Fellaini to Yaya. Apart from slagging off the Yaya pick (which I agree is not perfect) have I fooked up? Should I have shipped Cazorla or Demel this week instead or should I look to do it next week, with the possibility of getting them (or others) back for the DGW using the Jan WC.

    Sorry, my head's busy with other stuff atm, so any advise welcome.........thanks 🙂

      Demel is your 4th/5th defender, I wouldn't worry too much about him for 1 gameweek, as the others seem fine.

      You probably want to keep Santi this week for price rises anyway. Michu yellow card on the weekend could force your hand though, to make a change with one of them.

      No. It will be fine. You have three outfield players who can be benched. Whilst, I agree, the Cazorla thing isn't great (I've got him and will miss him)...would you really have played Demel away at Arsenal? Just pretend Cazorla picked up a little niggle and missed the game!

      makes sense, but then you are setting out your stall early and may need to use those transfers to change things in the period in between when you plan to save the transfers. As i said before, it's not that bad having some of the ars-whm players for a whiel after (wal, caz, demel, nolan, gibbs etc)

      Logic is fine but I intended to do this for the recent gw then bale got injured and suarez got host yellow meaning that I couldn't save my transfers.

      To be fair. Cazorla is a keeper anyway as is maybe sagna.

    Got a bit of a dilemma that I was hoping I could get some help with.

    Team ATM is:

    Szecesny/Tremmel
    Cameron/Garrido/Obrien/Shorey/Clark
    Michu/Yaya/Silva/Puncheon/Cazorla
    Rvp/Rooney/Suarez

    0.3 in the bank.

    I did Fellaini to Yaya this week.

    I really want exposure to Bale/Mata in the future but am really unsure where to get the funds from. I want to be able to replace Yaya with either one.

    The main drain on my funds is my front line obviously, but with Roo and Rvp both on form and good fixtures, I'm having trouble parting ways with either.

    Suarez is the obvious potential transfer but his fixtures are good coming up. Do I wait it out or should I go Suarez to Ba?

    this is really irritating news...sacrificed other heavy hitters knowing arsenal had a good run of fixtures this time of year and now. Have got Cazorla and Walcott missing a game at home to west ham who everyone else will prob put in by the time it gets to their dgw which is quite a few game weeks away.
