Preview Movie – Rate My Team – Part Two

Our second preview movie of the Rate My Team tool, arriving soon in the members area, gets to the juicy bit. In this movie you’ll see how Rate My Team can help you analyse your existing Fantasy Premier League squad, provide you with roadmap for your team selections and captain choices, and allow you to model a new squad for your January Wildcard.

Chris Atkinson, the creator of the Rate My Team model, again joins me for this movie, be sure to check out our first effort here for some further background on Rate My Team.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

You can find out more about Rate My Team here, or, of course, in the movie below.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie below, as I tinker with my replacement for Marouane Fellaini and scrap my squad to start building my January Wildcard selection.

When will Rate My Team be available?
We’re looking to roll out the Rate My Team tool for our members on January 1.

    REPOST (lost on last page)

    Hey all,

Would appreciate a bit of advice on my defense. I’m just wondering about who to start and the bench order. At the moment I have:

    Enrique, Shorey, Davies (Demel, Cuellar)

    Starters:
    - Enrique is my best defender and plays QPR away. Offers attacking potential.
    - Shorey hopefully either starts or stays on the bench. I like his attacking potential/set pieces if he plays. He plays at home.
    - Davies plays a Fulham still to hit their stride.

    Subs:
    - Demel plays Reading away which I think is a good fixture for him.. I’m not sure whether to start him
    - Cuellar is on form however so is Bale whom the Black Cats are playing. Spurs play well away from home..

    Any advice is appreciated!!

Yeah I too wanted to do Gorkss to O'Brien for a hit but I'm hoping that either Nelsen will be back or Harte will be rested and Shorey starts.

              Currently playing Baines Cuellar Shorey

Gorkss and Nelsen on the bench.

I'm sure last year and previous seasons the timing for the yellow card threshold was mid to the end of January.

I wonder if the FA have changed it to stop players deliberately getting booked the match before the third round of the FA Cup so their ban counted for that?
It used to happen a lot for those who don't remember or are too young to.

      Demel

Spurs will get a lot more chances than Reading will you'd imagine. Reading had 3 shots last game against Swansea in a home match. Granted Swansea are better at keeping the ball than Wham but you've got to back Spurs to score over Reading wouldn't you? That said I really hope Cuellar gets a clean sheet 🙂

good points. only thing that worries me is this:

        reading home games and goals
        Stoke: 1
        Spurs: 1
        Newcastle: 2
        Fulham: 3
        Norwich: 0
        Everton: 2

Sure, if I'm honest I don't fancy Demel or Cuellar for a CS so it's picking the one who you think is more likely to concede less. And I'd say that's Demel as Spurs are capable of scoring 2 in any game.

Whereas Reading have been shut out by teams like Norwich and Swansea. And Stoke only conceded from a late penalty. All teams that are similarly solid at the back like West Ham.

Already made my transfer and come up with the following (still doesnt look great though)

    Begovic
    enrique demel rafael (cueller davies)
    bale walcott sterling tarabt (michu)
    rvp berbs suarez......

    0.6m in the bank

The mid and defense are slightly weakish. What would you recommend?
    A: rafael >> gibbs for a hit
    B: tarabt/sterling >> nolan for a hit
    C: Dont do anything

Thoughts? cant think of any other ways to improve the team

Thanks for that link about McCartney, Aatish...

Just suffered a drop today in the hopes he would make it for DGW...

Looks like O'Brien is the way to go... seems a waste of a transfer swapping to a different WHM defender, though... now I'll have to take at least one hit to get all of Nolan, Cazorla, Gibbs and O'Brien...
