The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Four – Resumption

Back for 2013, fully refreshed, slightly rusty and balancing the same chips on our shoulders, Granville are I make a return to the podcast studio.

The New Year presents my beleaguered co-host with a 51-point gap to bridge as I spent Christmas “ho-ho-ing” about three midfield hat-tricks, leaving Granville to roll out one mighty miffed in this week’s episode.

Elsewhere, we pick at the double Gameweek buffet, eagerly scoffing on the Chelsea canapés whilst wondering if Rafa has hidden something nasty in the vol-a-vents. We rinse that down with the latest transfers in and out in “all aboard”, preview all the weekend fixtures and carry out the latest emergency surgery on the ailing ScoutCast team.

Normal service is resumed via this link or you can pour this straight into your ears via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    @ilovbaps,

are you still there? sorry for the late, late reply. been busy in my office.

i can see that you've done 3 transfers already! your team is great, no need to WC now IMO. the only problem with your team is it lacks Chelsea (i might be a real worry for this GW) and the defence, our defence, is unconvincing.

if i were you, i'd upgrade jones to a CHE def with that 3.5m itb. berba > ba only if you're feeling very, very brave.

Hi mate, no worries on reply. I'm a tragic so am never off for long 🙁
Having no Chelsea has forced me to take hits (-8 so far).
With my 3rd transfer I already did Berbs > Ba, so I was feeling brave. It's more insurance actually as I think Berb will score well.
Tempted by WC to lose the -8 and make a couple of changes to defence. Not sure what to do with OB1 and i don't need double Stk with Cameron. The defence downgrades would allow me to have more options in my front 8 over the next few weeks too.
Downside is my defence would be a bit cheaper than it is now.

Could also go a cheeky punt on Lampard instead of Fellaini for this week. Or Mata, what you think?

no way, i'd keep Fellaini if i already got him. who knows, he might rise 0.3 after this GW (depending on his performance, obviously).

we'll get rid of OB1! with the WC in GW24.. demel is the obvious choise. wilson if he's back, or turner if i'm not going with bunn.

        come on, let's (c) ba!

Well I know that Berbs out is a risk but I went with my gut re Ba. Can't fault that.
It was either that transfer or Fellaini > Mata/Lampard?! My only Chelsea cover btw!

I am reluctant to trade OB1 as I got him for £4m but I need to make cuts in defend if I want to upgrade Ba to Tevez or Suarez in future.

Captain will be him or Bale.

I agree, he's quality, but I can't understand why he's having a poor season by his standards. Allegedly Cole and Lampard are getting their cards. If only Rodgers could do a deal to get him. Hasn't been a half decent Right Back at Anfield since Riise. A change for Cole would do him good but he'd never be let sign for the Reds.

Too many variables to tell for sure, but probably the first one. Fellaini/Berbs look to be solid options from now to the end of the year, and sturridge is potentially explosive. If Aguero is back, Tevez will be a rotation nightmare again.

Many people are not betting on Bale because of the Harry Houdini factor. but i don't think so.

what you think of my latest wildcard Pepin?

      Jussi Bego

      Luiz Gibbs Clyne Demil Sagna

      Mata Michu Bale Fellani Walcott

      Ba Pog Van Persie

Have three arsenal there so should do well on the price rises And can save transfer next week so having two frees when all the after gameweek wildcards are played is good
, am going 352 nearly every week , takes away bench dilema , will have enough to get suarez back for Ba in a few weeks

Pretty much identical to my 3-5-2 draft. Honestly, I don't know if I will have the balls to pull the trigger...once you go 3-5-2, it's difficult to go back because getting Pog out will take more than one hit.

I'd go Davies over Clyne myself.

its not that difficult , i can easily get berbs back by downgrading luiz ,

Have enough to get Jones or one of them but Pog gives maximum cheapness for the bench , and he does actully score occasionally

Sagna > Bassong. Luiz > Sagna next week for free if you're still interested. Clyne is a bad choice even for a DGW, he might not even play.

Frontline is great if you're really, really into the power 5 idea.

Bale may be more the player, but because of injuries and suspensions, has played 343 minutes less than Lennon. Points per minute? Definitely Bale... 110 points in 1481 minutes is 6.7 points per 90 minutes played for Bale vs 90 points in 1824 minutes, or 4.5 points per 90 minutes played for Lennon. 9.8 million vs 7.2 million is quite a big difference to pay for those extra twenty points though.... Do you think he will stay healthy the rest of the way? Bale is 11.2 points per million spent, Lennon gets 12.5 points per million spent.

I think that's mostly because how involved suarez is in every liverpool attack, it'd be interesting to compare RVP's last season stats to suarez this season. Also, RVP is much more of a Center Forward and doesn't really deop deep whereas you'll often find suarez on the half way line helping out mids

So it seems like I'm going to 3-5-2 route, but I can't bring myself to get Pog as the 3rd striker...

I'm intent on spending the extra 1.1m to get Ruiz, even if it does mean I could use that to get a 3rd big hitter in defense or Jaask for his Begovic rotation...

One of the "power 5" are bound to be rested at some point, and I would rather I had a class player like Ruiz to come in over Pog (who admittedly does have decent fixtures in the next 6)...

Does anyone think that 1.1m is too much of a premium to be wasted on the bench for just such an occasion?... Maybe Pog would do the same damage if he got his chance to come in... 😕

Evening, Zep. If you are going 3-5-2, I'd go for Pog. It's analogous to getting Guhtrie in a 3-4-3.

If one of your 5 gets rested, it's not the end of the world to go 4-4-2, or even to play Pog. He seems to be back in the squad, is on penalties as well.

Hmm ok, the biggest factor in this decision for me is that if I do that, I'll probably play Walcott over Pog... I have Ruiz playing over Theo right now, which isn't ideal since it looks like he'll be upfront again...

Saying that, I still fancy Ruiz v Wigan... it's tough... the extra money would come in handy though...

That is the main issue with selecting him...

I haven't decided if that is a good or a bad problem to have yet though... there are arguments for and against it... obviously choosing to play him in a good home game when one of the mids have a very difficult away game could be profitable, but it's also possible that will lead to lost points on the bench... in the end it comes down to a personal choice...

I'm going to do the same come WC time.....but I'm going to punt on Henriquez. I know it could backfire big time but I'm hoping that most weeks it wont matter anyway. He's so cheap that you can really make a decent upgrade to your playing XI with the extra cash. And there is alwayts the chance that Henriquez will do really well at Wigan and become an important player.

Just dont like Pog. Full stop. And I fear that getting Ruiz will be to the detriment of the rest of my team, and will score lots of points on my bench 🙁

TL will tell you to go Pog and he has a valid argument. Like you say though, the power 5 will have issues with rotation and injuries (+ poor fixtures), and so your 3rd striker will be used more often than I think you realise. Ruiz is fantastic and a great option in this spot.
I think the a striker will bring in more value to your team than a 3rd big hitting defender when you have a few decent cheap options to rotate with at the back.

    Leaning towards 532

Michu and Fellani season keepers , Bale fairly essential too , Need arsenal cover so Walcott better option than their forwards.
Chelsea the same Mata fairly essential when you think the forwards will be rotated.

So Mata Michu Fellani Bale Walcott , fairly essential when you think about it Maybe Silva for Mata or Walcott is justifiable. But there not much room there for a cheap mid , as you lose someone vital

Contrast this with the strikers where Van Persie is essential , Suarez the next to it

So it either a good front 8 with someone like berbs as your weakest striker (means dirt cheap defence and benching someone good each week. Or having smeone like Pog Anchovy or the new wigan boy as a bench striker , making bench decision easier and also freeing up funds to improve defence while still keeping really strong midfild

    thoughts?

Aiming for the Fab 5, but if Ba makes himself essential I will have to add him to RVP + Suarez. Or Suarez could make himself inessential...

Comes down to a choice between Fellaini and Ba. Or Walcott getting crocked and making the decision for me.
